Rebecca's smile grew wider as she watched Emma's reaction. She whispered something to the girl next to her, and they both giggled. Emma's face burned with embarrassment as she realized she was the subject of their conversation. She took a deep breath and tried to compose herself. She was not going to let Rebecca bully her anymore. She was a new person, a college student, and she was going to make a fresh start.so she thought however it was easier said than done every glacé from the girls reminded her of the size of tummy As she waited in line, Emma's mind wandered to Clara, her best friend back in the Philippines. Clara had always been her rock, her confidante. Emma wished she was here now, to help her face Rebecca and to provide some much needed moral support. But Emma knew she had to do this on her own. She took a deep breath and focused on the task at hand. She was going to get through this, no matter what. As she approached the counter, a woman with a warm smile greeted her. "Emma Stanford, ?Emma stood up, trying to compose herself. The woman began explaining the registration process, but Emma's attention was diverted by the commotion behind her. She heard whispers of "Alex Maradona" and "billionaire," and her curiosity was piqued. Mister Alex Maradona will be coming to be our guest lecture," someone said, and the room erupted in excitement. Emma's eyes widened as she scanned the room, trying to see who this Alex Maradona was and why everyone was so excited. The woman at the counter handed Emma her papers and smiled. "Welcome to Columbia, Emma. I hope you have a great semester." Emma nodded, still feeling a bit dazed, and took her papers. As she turned to leave, she caught Rebecca's eye, and for a moment, they just stared at each other. Emma's heart was racing, and she wondered what was going to happen next. Who is Alex Maradona, and what does he have to do with Columbia University? Well that is non of her business her only business is that she could finally be called a college student it’s been two weeks after getting her admission email and ever since she has been running to and fro trying to get her documents done now she is finally done with that she held to her dorm . Emma stood at the door of her dorm room, taking in the scene before her. The room was supposed to be occupied by just four people, but the four beds were already occupied, and she was confused as to why the fourth bed was taken. Her eyes scanned the room, trying to make sense of the situation. That's when she saw her , the girl she had asked for directions earlier. The girl looked up, a hint of recognition on her face, and said, "Mariam aren't you going to leave her bed? Don't you see the owner is here? Emma was confused, thinking she was referring to her , she was about to say her name is not Mariam when she realized the girl was directing her question to the girl on the bed at the corner of the room.oh that must be her bed she thought Mariam looked up, her eyes widening as she took in Emma's presence, focusing on her clothes and shoes. "Oh yeah, she's the one that's supposed to be in this room,? Well she is not worth it " she muttered Then with scrutinize eyes she studied Emma expression and what are you just standing there.for ? Looking so so .. can’t even discribe it Come on, Mariam stop talking to her like that , can't you see she's uncomfortable? The girl who had shown Emma directions earlier, Jessica, spoke up. Mariam stood up from the bed. I'll see you later, Rebecca, she said, and Emma's heart skipped a beat as she heard the name Rebecca. Oh God what did I do to fate to be this crue towards me she thought feeling dejected, Rebecca looked up, a sly smile spreading across her face as she saw Emma. "Come on, don't tell me I'll be sharing a room with you, haha how lucky, lucky you Emma Stamford ! she said, playfully teasing. The other girls in the room looked at Emma with curiosity, and one of them, Faith, asked, "You guys know each other?" Rebecca smiled. "We went to the same high school. We were best of friends, right Emma?" she asked with a knowly smirk on her face , Emma felt anxious and just nodded, trying to avoid eye contact with Rebecca. Faith looked at Rebecca, confused. "How was she able to attend the same school as you?" Sorry but ...you .. you know.. I..''em I .. mean... hm .. Rebecca smiled. "Scholarship. I'm sure she's also here on a scholarship, right Emma?" Emma ignored Rebecca and focused on other things but Rebecca face , Speaking of class, have you heard the great Mister Alex maradona is coming?" Faith asked, changing the topic Rebecca's eyes lit up. "Yes, I heard he's one of the most handsome man in the whole of New York. And rich too faith added I know right and I heard His wealth is being questioned, and I hear he's being investigated sometimes because the source of his wealth is just a mystery." they laugh completely forgetting Emma presence which became and ample room for Emma to unpacked her clothes without their judge mental eyes on it she was so engross in her attempt to hide her thrift clothes that she failed to notice the silence in the room , " you can unpack freely now Rebecca and faith ain't here " Jessica said Emma was immediately brought back to the present t...hank .... thank yo. You she muttered Barely audible , for? Jessica asked because she can't figure why she is thanking her " for defending me against faith and Miriam ... thank you and ... I did not defend you " Jessica cut her off " and I will never defend a weakling " see Emma you better stand up and be bold , bullies feds on fear and weakness don't put yourself in the net of a prey then complain and act like a victim when the predator comes " with that she held the the bathroom. Emma just sighed ... she knows, ... she knows all this ...her mum says it every time her friends say same so it's not new but the question is how ?how can she handle all this new environment? Are you coming in or not, Alex asked, or do you want them to eat you alive? Emma looked over her shoulder and saw that people were already looking around again, waiting. She was tired. She was scared. She needed to get in. If not, she would be in great soup. So she had no choice but to get into Alex's car. The car shut behind her. The car was too big, too expensive for someone like her. Leather, clean, something cold she couldn’t name. Emma sat at the back seat. Alex was still in the front seat. He didn’t say anything to her. He didn’t even look at her. He just ignored her like he was not the one who told her to get in the car just now. Thomas was in the front seat. She knew him to be the driver, but she’d never really spoken to him before. So she sat there feeling lost. Then Alex got out of the front seat suddenly and slid into the back seat with her. The moment he sat down, something closed. A panel slid up between the back seat and the front seat. She was surprised. So ca
The premiere was supposed to be over but the camera was still rolling. Dancers were still dancing like nothing happened, although it was obviously a false smile. But every girl had their phone up, replaying the video of Emma and Benji kissing. They couldn't believe that Benji could still somehow kiss a girl like Emma. Maya on the other hand was panicking in her seat. She knew it was her fault. She knew it was the live she did in the car earlier when they were coming in. That panic was evident. And Jonathan was already tired of calming her down . Come on G, calm down. It's not your fault. You didn't know. No, Maya said, panicking. It's my fault. If I hadn't been so clumsy, if I hadn't gone in with my phone live, none of this would have happened. Emma wouldn't be in this state right now. She gripped his hand tightly. Jonathan put his hand over hers and rubbed his thumb over her knuckles, Calm down. It's okay. Remember, the camera is still on us. We need this. We need to make thi
Emma was pressed against the wall behind the green room door. Both hands over her face. Shoulders shaking from crying so hard. “I never kissed Benji… I never… it’s all fake…” She whispered it over and over. Like a prayer. Like if she said it enough, it would become true. She hadn’t even watched the video yet. But she knew. It wasn’t her. It could never be her. Then heard footsteps. Coming her way She flinched. At first she thought it was fans. She’d watched enough k- drama and Hollywood to know. Some fans would chase an actor’s co star just to tear them apart. yes they’re that obsessed Every step made her shrink harder into the wall. as if it could shied her But the closer the person got… the more she recognized it. that perfume. She’d know that perfume anywhere. It belongs to benji the door flew open. revealing him He came in fast, like he’d run all the way here just to find her. His shirt was damp, hair wild. He pulled her into his arms wit
Emma stepped forward to the podium. For the first two seconds, no one said anything. Not even the reporters. All you heard was cameras clicking. Then the questions started. Miss Emma Stanford. Just from the sound of your voice… you sound happy to be here. So tell us how happy are you to be a member of Sunwave?” Emma swallowed. “I’m happy to be a member of Sunwave. I wasn’t expecting this. Anyone who knows me knows how little I think of myself. I don’t really see myself as someone who could do things like this. But I was pushed by my best friends. I’m hoping to grow into this place.” “Good,” another reporter cut in. “Speaking of background… we found out you’re not exactly from a privileged family. You live in Cebu. I heard you’re poor. And yet you got into Columbia. How did you do that?” Emma’s jaw tightened. “It was on scholarship. I don’t mean to make it a big deal, but yes. I’m a scholarship student. And I’m proud to say it here.” She said with annoyance clear
He used his mouth to catch the piece of noodle stuck near the corner of her lip. Emma froze. Because she remembered. He used to do this in high school. Anytime something was on her mouth, he’d lean in just to embarrass her in public. So she’d stop being clumsy. “Oh,” she breathed. “You still remember this? I thought, now that you’re a celebrity, you’d forget it.” Benji laughed, pulling back into his seat like it was nothing. “Come on. Of course I remember. I used to do that in high school. Being a celebrity doesn’t mean I have memory loss.” But his hands on the steering wheel said otherwise. They were tighter on the steering wheel. He hated this feeling. His chest felt it. A pull. A taste he didn’t want to name. He wanted to linger on her lip, stay a bit longer. But it was Emma. His little girl from high school. In high school, the kiss meant nothing. Right now? It.. it just .. It did. “You know what,” Emma suddenly said . Almost a whisper. “If anyone saw us jus
That will not happen. I’m not showing much of myself. It’s just my voice. That’s all,” Emma cut in again. “That’s where you’re wrong, Emma. One day you’ll have to face the press. How will you do that? You’re still working on your self-esteem.” “I’m working on it, Clara. I can’t believe you’re saying this to me. I’m just a singer. I’m not an actress. I’m not some celebrity living on social media. All they need is my voice.” “Emma, a day will come when you’ll have to show your face. You will. People will be dying to meet you. You can’t hide behind audio forever.” Emma blinked at the dark ceiling. That wasn’t what she expected from Clara. If it was Maya, Maya would be screaming, hyping her up, pushing her onstage right now. But Clara… Clara was just quiet. “Forget I said that,” Clara said quickly. “You’re okay. You’re fine. I’m just worried about you. That’s all.” Emma’s throat was tight. “I have to go. I need to start arranging things for the premiere tom
Tears welled up in Emma’s eyes before she could stop them, hot and humiliating. “Let me be,” she whispered, her voice shaking so badly the words almost broke. “I know I’m ugly. I know I’m not good enough for Alex. I’m not even trying. I don’t even like him. Can’t you just leave me alone?”Rebecca
Emma’s shoulders tensed. “Clara… I have to go.”“Why? Why are you in such a hurry to go?” Clara’s voice rose. “Emma, don’t you dare cut this call.”“I have to go. My roommate’s coming.”“So what? Let them come. Introduce me to your roommate.”“You don’t understand, Clara. ”“Introduce me. Are you a
" good I'm glad you get it " Clara said with a concern face "Let’s change the topic. Who’s this Romeo guy? You said he’s bothering you?”Emma’s expression changed instantly. The light dimmed. “I don’t know. He’s just another guy. He keeps following me after class. I don’t like him.”Clara caught it
Emma propped her phone against the stack of textbooks on her desk and fluffed her hair with her fingers, She kept shifting, tilting the phone left and right, trying to get the camera to stop blurring. Her old phone wasn’t exactly cooperating, not compared to Clara’s sleek, high resolution screen.“
