“You made a fantastic team, Alpha and Lady Syria! You both were incredible!”

“Thank you,” Kael responded, his arm encircling my waist softly. “But I couldn’t have done it without her. If it weren’t for her staff, that boar would’ve crushed us. He was big!”

The crowd nearby chuckled, their laughter mingling with the wind's whisper through the leaves. I smiled awkwardly, but inside, Kael was overestimating me.

“You're focusing on me too much,” I whispered, trying to sound casual. “I just helped a bit.”

Before he had a chance to reply, a voice pierced the silence. It was sharp and scornful.

“You just know how to hide yourself behind a stick.”

The laughter faded immediately. I glanced in the direction of the noise and spotted him.

He’s known to be proud, battle-hardened, and notoriously arrogant. He was among those who thought that true strength originated solely from the wolf inside, rather than from weapons or sorcery.
