LOGINChapter 5
Liam’s POV In another realm far from human lands… “You’re so dumb,” I snapped, slamming my fist on the table. “You weren’t supposed to talk to her!” The omega flinched. The night before was the full moon. I had to warn her. “I told you to watch her silently—silently!” I barked. “You showed yourself to her? At a restaurant?! Around humans?!” He stuttered something about it not being crowded and that she didn’t recognize him. I rolled my eyes so hard I swear the ancestors felt it. “Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. You’ve just risked exposing our world because you couldn’t keep your furry little mouth shut. “Get out of my sight!” He bolted like a kicked pup. Honestly, the omegas are supposed to be the quietest and most obedient. And yet, this is what I get assigned? I paced the floor of my war room—barefoot, because boots are overrated when you’re full of rage—and cursed the universe under my breath. Again. “Why? Why is my mate half human?” I growled, dragging my hands through my hair. A half-human. I’m the future Alpha King, destined to rule the Midnight Howl Pack—the largest and oldest bloodline in the realm. I’ve trained for this since I was six years old. I’ve fought alphas twice my size. I’ve survived winters that would freeze a dragon’s fire. And they pair me with someone who’s half human. Half! That means diluted blood, fragile bones, a slower shift, weaker senses—everything my mate is supposed to not be. “She’ll be weaker than the omegas,” I muttered to myself, kicking over a stool. “How’s she supposed to stand beside me, lead by my side, when she can’t even sense danger before it hits her in the face?” I stormed down the corridor, heading straight to my father’s chamber. “Father,” I barked, pushing open the heavy door without knocking. “Isn’t there a way to change her? To make her more… wolf? There has to be something!” He didn’t even look up from his ancient scrolls. Just raised an eyebrow and muttered, “Do you even deserve a mate?” His words hit like claws to the chest. “She’d probably reject you if she knew the kind of self-obsessed brat you are,” he continued coldly. “Now get out of my room. I have important things to do.” Important. Right. Like practicing his kingly glare in the mirror. I clenched my jaw, fists tight at my sides. But I said nothing. I knew better. Arguing with my father was like challenging a blizzard to warm up—it wasn’t going to happen, and you’d only get frostbite for trying. I turned and walked away. Fast. Before I showed him the one thing he’d never let me live down—tears. Why does he hate me so much? Maybe it’s because I remind him of my mother. Maybe it’s because I ask too many questions. Or maybe he just can’t stand the idea of someone else ruling after him. I don’t know. I only know that whatever he broke in me when he banished my mother from this kingdom… it never really healed. I slammed the door to my own quarters, chest heaving. I’m trained. I’m a born leader. But I’m also tired of pretending that none of this hurts. And I’m terrified. Because even with everything I’ve trained for—every victory, every command shouted into war—I don’t know how to lead a heart I don’t understand. Especially when that heart belongs to someone who may never accept me… or this world. And worse—what if she’s already falling for someone else? Wait. What? Did I just think about her… liking someone else? Why would I even care? I don’t care. I don’t like her. I don’t even think I’d settle with her. Settle with a half-human, probably-weak mate? Absolutely not. I scowled at the thought and stormed back into my chambers, ready to punch a wall or a pillow—whichever one annoyed me first. But to my surprise, my younger brother, Lucious, was already inside, casually leaning against my bedpost like he owned the place. “You’re brooding again,” he said with that smug grin he always wore. “Still angry about the mate thing?” I groaned. “You really need to stop reading my moods like a romance scroll.” Lucious chuckled. “You need to stop stressing about it. The ancestors paired you two for a reason. Maybe she’s stronger than you think.” “Or maybe the ancestors were half-asleep,” I muttered. He laughed and clapped my shoulder. “Come on, let’s train. You need to let off steam before you burn the whole castle down with that glare.” I rolled my eyes but followed him. “Fine. But I’m not holding back this time. Last session, I let you win so you wouldn’t sulk in front of your precious Bella.” Lucious raised a brow. “Oh really? You let me win?” “I’m being generous with my pride,” I said, smirking. We were halfway down the corridor,Lucious turned to me, already guilty. “Uh… slight change of plans. Bella just mind-linked me. She misses me.” I stared at him in disbelief. “We were literally going to train! You begged me for this yesterday!” “She’s my mate, Liam,” he said with a grin. “You’ll understand when yours starts talking to your soul instead of your ego.” I snorted. “Urgh. Everyone with their mates. So dramatic. So clingy. It’s like watching wolves in a soap opera.” Lucious just laughed and gave me a mock bow before disappearing down the hallway toward his beloved Bella. I stood there for a moment, completely abandoned. “Fine,” I muttered to myself. “Guess I’ll go train with the weaklings. Maybe I’ll finally get a challenge if I spar them all at once.” I adjusted my cuffs, straightened my shoulders, and headed to the training grounds. Let the record show: I didn’t need a mate to be a legend. …But maybe… just maybe… I wondered what it would feel like to have someone miss me like that. Just a thought. A very quiet one.Chapter 101CassidyTraining the wolf-cubs drained every last drop of strength from me. Their tiny claws, their wild energy, their endless questions…it was enough to drive anyone mad. But what tormented me even more was the sight of Lucious and Bella gliding past each other like the world belonged to them alone — smiling, whispering, brushing hands—a perfect pair.My heart ached every time. Why can’t I let him goWhat kind of friend am I, carrying feelings for my friend’s mateHe was my first love… letting go feels like tearing off a limb. And Selene — spirits above — Selene had been restless, furious, pacing like a wolf denied a kill ever since she discovered Liam had left the Vale. She knew he had gone after Aurora. I feared what madness she might unleash. Then I saw Ronan. He was preparing to leave for his own pack, cloak draped over his shoulder. Selene’s schemes had failed — she had used him to keep Aurora away from Liam, and now that the plan crumbled, she cast him aside. I coul
Chapter 100 Liam Cassidy’s message reached me by mirrorlight — short, grim, and edged with urgency. Your father knows. He has discovered you’ve gone to the human Vale. Of course, he had. He always did. He knows his son well. He knew that once I set my mind on something, not even the gods of the Moon could change it. I hesitated to go after her when he told me she was safer in the human Vale than in the supernatural one. I wanted to believe him. I tried to. But I couldn’t leave her there, not alone. Every part of me rebelled against it. The thought of her living among humans, unaware of the dangers that could creep in from both worlds, made my blood burn. So I went. I gathered a few of my most trusted wolves and crossed into the human Vale. I told myself it was to make sure she was safe. But deep down, I knew the truth—I couldn’t stay away. The air was thick with human scents as I passed her dwelling once more—quiet streets, muted chatter, and that familiar heartbeat I could re
Chapter 99 Aurora Grandma’s voice broke the silence first. “You didn’t let me finish before you walked out, Aurora. When he came by last time, he wanted to make amends. So… since you’re back, I called him over.” My chest tightened. “To make amends by asking if I turned out like my mother?” I asked, my tone quiet but sharp. My father looked at me. “No, Aurora,” he said softly. “I came because I’m sorry. I didn’t just come to ask about what you’ve become. I wanted to help you understand what your mother was… what you are. I learned a little from her before she passed, and I should have been there to guide you. I should have protected you.” I let out a bitter laugh. “That’s why you came back? After all these years? To help me understand myself?” My voice trembled. “You think it’s that easy — to walk back in after abandoning me?” “I know I hurt you,” he said, his voice breaking. “I left when you needed me most. I didn’t connect, I didn’t care the way I should have. I was angry… and
Chapter 98 Aurora The morning was quiet, warm, and soft like a memory you don’t want to wake from. I sat beside Grandma Rose on the couch, both of us working the yarn in slow, steady loops. Her presence always felt like safety. Like home. “I’m going to look for a job today,” I said, keeping my eyes on the scarf. Grandma hummed, gentle but worried. “Are you sure you’re not going back to the Vale?” My chest tightened. “I… don’t think so, Grandma. I’ll learn to control myself during the full moons.” I hoped. I prayed. The potion Cassidy gave me would help for a while, but after that… I’d be on my own. I didn’t want to hurt Grandma. Not her. Never her. “Well, then,” she said, patting my hand, “let’s finish this row so you can get started.” But something changed. A scent. Warm. Strong. Familiar in a way that wrapped around my ribs. Liam. My heart jumped, as if my body knew him before my mind did. I stood up so quickly the yarn slipped from my fingers. Grandma looke
Chapter 97LiamI summoned only the wolves I trusted, those whose loyalty was proven by more than words. They gathered in the castle courtyard at my call, heads bowed, awaiting command. I told them to prepare for a journey beyond the Vale—into the human world. Before leaving, I sought Cassidy. She was still at the training grounds, breath hot, fists marked from striking wood.“You cannot be serious,” she said the moment I explained. “Liam, she is safe there. What we need to watch is Selene. If anyone threatens Aurora now, it will be her.”“I will have eyes on Selene,” I answered. “And on that wolf, Ronan, who lingers too comfortably near my mate.”Cassidy paused. Then, for the first time since all of this began, she smiled faintly.“Your mate. And now jealousy. You’re in love.”“I am not in love.” My voice was steady, but she continued to smile.“She is my mate. I protect what is mine.”Cassidy crossed her arms. “Her being your mate doesn’t mean you should guard her like a locked jour
Chapter 96 I did not approach quietly. I stormed into my father’s chambers, the heavy doors rattling against stone. “Why did you send Aurora away from the Vale?” I demanded, my voice sharp as steel. My father looked upon me with the cold stare he had mastered since my mother was banished. “She is dangerous to us all,” he said, unshaken. “Dangerous?” I stepped closer, fists clenched. “She is my mate. Under my watch, no war will rise. No blade will touch her. She will not be sacrificed—not unless I fall first.” A low laugh escaped him. “You speak as though fate bends to your will. The war will come, Liam. The prophecy is set. None can alter it.” “Then what sense does it make to send her away?” I snapped. “You claim you banished her to prevent a war—yet you say the war is inevitable. Speak plainly.” He exhaled, weary, ancient. “Cassidy’s mother foresaw a great shift. A wolf of golden eyes—destiny tied to fire and blood. We did not know it would be your mate.” The chamber fell
