Chapter 5

Liam’s POV

In another realm far from human lands…

“You’re so dumb,” I snapped, slamming my fist on the table. “You weren’t supposed to talk to her!”

The omega flinched. The night before was the full moon. I had to warn her.

“I told you to watch her silently—silently!” I barked. “You showed yourself to her? At a restaurant?! Around humans?!”

He stuttered something about it not being crowded and that she didn’t recognize him.

I rolled my eyes so hard I swear the ancestors felt it. “Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. You’ve just risked exposing our world because you couldn’t keep your furry little mouth shut. “Get out of my sight!”

He bolted like a kicked pup. Honestly, the omegas are supposed to be the quietest and most obedient. And yet, this is what I get assigned?

I paced the floor of my war room—barefoot, because boots are overrated when you’re full of rage—and cursed the universe under my breath. Again.

“Why? Why is my mate half human?” I growled, dragging my hands through my hair.

A half-human. I’m the future Alpha King, destined to rule the Midnight Howl Pack—the largest and oldest bloodline in the realm. I’ve trained for this since I was six years old. I’ve fought alphas twice my size. I’ve survived winters that would freeze a dragon’s fire.

And they pair me with someone who’s half human. Half! That means diluted blood, fragile bones, a slower shift, weaker senses—everything my mate is supposed to not be.

“She’ll be weaker than the omegas,” I muttered to myself, kicking over a stool. “How’s she supposed to stand beside me, lead by my side, when she can’t even sense danger before it hits her in the face?”

I stormed down the corridor, heading straight to my father’s chamber.

“Father,” I barked, pushing open the heavy door without knocking. “Isn’t there a way to change her? To make her more… wolf? There has to be something!”

He didn’t even look up from his ancient scrolls. Just raised an eyebrow and muttered, “Do you even deserve a mate?”

His words hit like claws to the chest.

“She’d probably reject you if she knew the kind of self-obsessed brat you are,” he continued coldly. “Now get out of my room. I have important things to do.”

Important. Right. Like practicing his kingly glare in the mirror.

I clenched my jaw, fists tight at my sides. But I said nothing. I knew better. Arguing with my father was like challenging a blizzard to warm up—it wasn’t going to happen, and you’d only get frostbite for trying.

I turned and walked away. Fast. Before I showed him the one thing he’d never let me live down—tears.

Why does he hate me so much?

Maybe it’s because I remind him of my mother. Maybe it’s because I ask too many questions. Or maybe he just can’t stand the idea of someone else ruling after him. I don’t know. I only know that whatever he broke in me when he banished my mother from this kingdom… it never really healed.

I slammed the door to my own quarters, chest heaving.

I’m trained. I’m a born leader. But I’m also tired of pretending that none of this hurts.

And I’m terrified.

Because even with everything I’ve trained for—every victory, every command shouted into war—I don’t know how to lead a heart I don’t understand.

Especially when that heart belongs to someone who may never accept me… or this world.

And worse—what if she’s already falling for someone else?

Wait. What?

Did I just think about her… liking someone else?

Why would I even care? I don’t care. I don’t like her. I don’t even think I’d settle with her.

Settle with a half-human, probably-weak mate? Absolutely not.

I scowled at the thought and stormed back into my chambers, ready to punch a wall or a pillow—whichever one annoyed me first. But to my surprise, my younger brother, Lucious, was already inside, casually leaning against my bedpost like he owned the place.

“You’re brooding again,” he said with that smug grin he always wore. “Still angry about the mate thing?”

I groaned. “You really need to stop reading my moods like a romance scroll.”

Lucious chuckled. “You need to stop stressing about it. The ancestors paired you two for a reason. Maybe she’s stronger than you think.”

“Or maybe the ancestors were half-asleep,” I muttered.

He laughed and clapped my shoulder. “Come on, let’s train. You need to let off steam before you burn the whole castle down with that glare.”

I rolled my eyes but followed him. “Fine. But I’m not holding back this time. Last session, I let you win so you wouldn’t sulk in front of your precious Bella.”

Lucious raised a brow. “Oh really? You let me win?”

“I’m being generous with my pride,” I said, smirking.

We were halfway down the corridor,Lucious turned to me, already guilty.

“Uh… slight change of plans. Bella just mind-linked me. She misses me.”

I stared at him in disbelief. “We were literally going to train! You begged me for this yesterday!”

“She’s my mate, Liam,” he said with a grin. “You’ll understand when yours starts talking to your soul instead of your ego.”

I snorted. “Urgh. Everyone with their mates. So dramatic. So clingy. It’s like watching wolves in a soap opera.”

Lucious just laughed and gave me a mock bow before disappearing down the hallway toward his beloved Bella.

I stood there for a moment, completely abandoned.

“Fine,” I muttered to myself. “Guess I’ll go train with the weaklings. Maybe I’ll finally get a challenge if I spar them all at once.”

I adjusted my cuffs, straightened my shoulders, and headed to the training grounds. Let the record show: I didn’t need a mate to be a legend.

…But maybe… just maybe… I wondered what it would feel like to have someone miss me like that.

Just a thought.

A very quiet one.

Chapter 134Aurora The morning after last night felt different in the softest way—lighter, warmer, like the world had shifted just enough to let me breathe.I woke to gentle kisses pressed to my forehead, slow and unhurried, as though whoever was giving them had nowhere else to be and all the time in the world. I smiled before I even opened my eyes.“Morning, beautiful,” Liam murmured.I blinked awake and found him hovering over me, propped on one arm, his hair loose and uncombed, his expression open in a way I still wasn’t used to—but was quickly growing fond of.“Morning, handsome,” I replied, my voice shy but honest. He smiled, not the confident Alpha smile everyone saw, but a quiet one meant only for me. “How do you feel?”I thought about it for a second. About the warmth in my chest, the calm in my bones, the strange sense that I belonged exactly where I was. “I feel… great,” I said, cheeks warming.“Good,” he said softly. “Come. Wash up. I want to take you somewhere.”That alon

Chapter 133 Aurora I returned to the castle long after dusk, my body aching but light, as though something inside me had finally been set in motion. The Omega lands had done that to me—quiet strength, calm discipline, a kind of power that didn’t roar but endured. And Liam… Liam had watched it all with a softness that still made my chest tighten. I thought of the kiss. Heat crept into my cheeks as I climbed the stairs to my chambers. After speaking briefly with my father and grandmother, reassuring them that I was safe, I retreated into the quiet of my room. I bathed, letting warm water wash away the dust of training, then dressed in a silk night gown—pale, flowing, ancient in cut. It felt strange to wear something so delicate after a day of pushing my limits, but it felt right too. The room was dim, lit by lanterns and moonlight. Liam’s maps were spread across the table—battle lines, borders, notes written in a hand I still struggled to read. I circled them, amused. “Doe

Chapter 132 Liam I found my mother waiting in the inner hall, where the light from the high windows fell soft upon the stone. She stood still, hands folded before her, posture perfect as ever. Yet the moment our eyes met, I knew something troubled her. “Mother,” I said, slowing my steps. “You look worried.” She turned fully then, her gaze sharp beneath calm lashes. “I heard you went to the omega territory,” she said gently. “When did that begin?” “Today,” I answered without shame. “I went with Aurora.” Her lips curved into a faint smile, but it did not reach her eyes. “You surprise me,” she said. “I did not think you would start going there.” “I didn’t either,” I admitted, letting out a small breath. “But I learned something today. They are not what we were taught. They are strong in ways we ignored. Thoughtful. Steady. They are the mind of this pack, Mother. I intend to end this separation.” For a moment, she was silent. Then she stepped closer, her voice lowering, sw

Chapter 131 Liam I had thought strength was loud. That it roared in battle cries, in sharpened claws and bloodied ground, I had believed power lived only in those who stood at the front with weapons raised, who could tear through enemies and return without fear in their eyes. I was wrong. I realized it the moment I stood among the omegas—not above them, not separated by rank or throne, but within their space, breathing the same air, watching them move. They did not rush. They did not boast. They did not bend their heads in fear. They worked. Aurora stood at the center of their clearing, eyes closed, breath uneven. I could feel the pull of her power even from where I stood—a quiet pressure, like the air before a storm. Her golden wolf stirred beneath her skin, restless, immense. It frightened her. I saw it in the tightness of her shoulders, the way her fingers trembled before she stilled them. The omegas did not crowd her. They formed a wide circle instead, leaving space. A

Chapter 130 Aurora After Cassidy left, she suggested I train in the omega territory. She said they understood patience and control better than anyone else. I agreed. I returned to my chambers to change into something lighter, something meant for movement. I had just tied my hair back when the door opened quickly. My father and grandmother hurried in. “Is it true?” my father asked at once, his voice tight. “Did Damian come here?” “Yes,” I said. My grandmother’s brows drew together. “What did he ask of you?” “He wants me to visit my mother’s pack.” The air changed. “You can’t,” my father said sharply. Fear and anger tangled in his tone. “That man is dangerous. I don’t trust him. He’s after something.” “I know,” I said quietly. “But I want to know about my mother. Her people. Their ways. I know it’s risky—but I won’t go until I can protect myself. I also want to save his pack from him. My grandmother shook her head. “Aurora, he knows about your power. I’m sure of

Chapter 129 Aurora The training field was quiet when I reached it—too quiet for a place meant for strength and release. The air smelled of bark and earth, but beneath it was something sharper. Anger. Pain. I followed the sound before I saw her. Cassidy stood before one of the old practice trees, her fists wrapped in cloth, striking the trunk again and again. Each blow landed hard, reckless, as if she didn’t care how much it hurt. Bark splintered. Leaves trembled. And still she kept going. “Cassidy,” I called, my voice cutting through the thud of impact. She didn’t stop. I rushed forward and caught her wrist just as she drew back for another strike. Her hand was trembling. When she turned to me, I saw tears streaking down her face, her jaw clenched tight as if she was fighting herself more than the tree. “Cassidy,” I said again, softer now. “What’s wrong?” She pulled her hand free and staggered back, pressing both palms to her head. Then she dropped to the ground, sitting hea
