Chapter 1

Chapter 1.

Alyssa's POV.

"Run." That's all I heard from my mom's lips before taking off.

I could hear the commotion in the pack, yet I ran as fast as I could, my heart thumping furiously.

It felt like the blood was rushing through my ears at super speed, and even though it was just wind against my face, my chest felt tight with worry that someone would spot me.

I didn't know who or what I was running from, all I knew was that rogues attacked the pack, and everyone was running for their lives.

My feet barely touched the ground as I kept running, with no actual direction.

The wind blowing my hair against my face, the sounds grew louder, as if a huge crowd had surrounded us.

I pushed myself to run faster, my lungs screaming, my legs burning. Adrenaline coursed through my body, and it burned, but I couldn't stop.

It would only be seconds until I hit something. Maybe the fence, maybe a tree... but I needed to keep going, I heard stories about rogues, and I didn't plan on falling victim to any rogue.

The thought was enough to push me faster, adrenaline pumping through my body.

A hand grabbed my arm, yanking me out of my trance and into reality.

I stopped running, my whole body shivering violently from exhaustion, sweat pouring down the back of my neck.

My mother was panting heavily, "Don't let them catch you Alyssa." She kept panting.

Her voice trembled slightly as she panted. "Stay behind me, okay?"

I nodded silently. Mom was so cool and tough. No matter how hard things got, she never lost her head, or let anyone control her life.

Even after my dad's death and my inability to shift early, she didn't make me feel horrible like the pack members did.

We kept running, trying to find our way outside the pack's surroundings so we wouldn't get caught.

I paused when my mom's hands left me, an eerie feeling crept over me immediately, causing a chill to run throughout my body.

Something wasn't right here, my eyes searched around frantically and landed on my mom writhing in pain on the floor,  her skin growing sickly pale.

I ran towards my mom, who was lying there on the cold, hard ground, her eyes rolled back into her skull.

She tried to speak, but couldn't form words. I panicked as I started shaking her shoulders, begging her to wake up. I needed her to wake up, please.

"Mom, mom." I shook her, a gasp leaving my lips immediately I saw the blood on her clothes, dripping onto the floor. The sight of it caused another scream to escape my mouth.

I looked back at her in horror, tears streaming down my face, "No, no, no, no!" I shook my head vigorously as I cried hysterically.

She looked dead already . It was too late, mom. I couldn't move, couldn't do anything to save her, I was paralyzed with grief.

Tears were still leaking out of my eyes, staining my cheeks, my breathing became erratic as panic filled my senses again.

Everything around me was white, too white, I screamed and struggled to see past the blinding whiteness, I was trapped, I can't breathe, I can't breathe, someone help!

"Someone help!!" I called out to no one in particular.

There were screams around me, people crying and panicking while trying to escape the mass chaos around them.

I stood up shakily, trying to join others in the room, my whole body shaking like an earthquake.

Someone bumped into me, sending me toppling back down to the ground. I curled up into the fetal position, holding myself and sobbing.

I hated this, it hurt so bad.

There was so much pain, I could hardly think straight. My thoughts seemed blurry, and everything was spinning.

"Help...please..." I pleaded, "Please, someone help me-"

I couldn't finish my statement when I heard a loud gunshot, and footsteps, the rogues were gaining on me, I stood up running as fast as I could immediately.

I didn't look behind me, I just ran.

I continued running, not caring where my legs took me to.

After I stumbled around in circles for what felt like hours, I tripped and fell forward on a small stone.

All I could do was lie there on the rough stones on the ground, unable to get up, my mind blank and blank and blank.

I sat there for a couple minutes, then slowly pushed myself up.

I could hear the footsteps getting closer, gaining on me, the voices getting closer.

My head pounded furiously, as I began running towards the forest I saw ahead.

I sprinted as fast as my trembling legs could carry me, my vision was blurred by the tears that had soaked through my eyelashes.

I reached the woods, I could hear the rogues approaching, I tried desperately to slow them down, but I was so weak, and they were fast.

Yet I didn't stop, I kept running, my entire world narrowed in on my goal, to not let them take me.

I jumped a fence crossing what felt like a pack's border,  I stumbled and tripped and slid through the bushes, but I kept pushing myself forward until finally, I reached a clearing, away from them.

"Who's there?" My head turned immediately when I heard the voice.

It sent such deep tremors through my body,  that I nearly ran, but I felt weirdly safe.

My eyes found the man standing in front of me. My eyes widened as I saw the most handsome werewolf male I've ever laid my eyes on, his grey eyes focused on my face.

He was taller than any werewolf male I'd seen before, he wore jeans with combat boots and a black turtleneck. His long brown hair framed his face nicely, he looked like a freaking prince.

"Who are you and why have you trespassed into my pack?" His voice boomed and I swallowed nervously.

Suddenly my wolf danced around, screaming one word I thought I'd never hear, "Mate, mate."
