My room felt big and small all at once. The open space was too empty. Too quiet. Yet it felt like it was pressing into me, squeezing out what little hope I had left.

I paced the lengrg of the room, back and forth. My hands shook like I was drunk on much wine. The only difference was the lack of warmth. All I felt was a deep cold gnawing at my chest.

Every time I closed my eyes, I saw them.

Talia’s wide eyes. Kael’s crooked little grin.

Gods, I was failing them.

I should’ve been the one out there searching, not sitting here while they were…

I forced the thought away before it finished.

I couldn’t imagine what they were...

I didn't want to.

I blamed myself for trusting Ansel. I never should’ve left them alone with her. I’d told myself it was fine, that she’d never hurt them and that she was a victim herself. But then she'd turned around and delivered them to the devil herself.
