OLIVIA POV

By the time the black car rolled out of Cassius Lance's driveway, my notepad had three full pages of rules and my hand was cramping.

Water at forty degrees. Towels in thirds. Never enter unless called. Never speak unless spoken to. A whole lot more.

I read my own handwriting for the fifth time and nearly laughed. I had a degree in Art History. I could name every Renaissance portraitist from memory. And now I was memorizing how a billionaire liked his towels.

You will seduce him, Mr.

OLIVIA POVThe moment the car disappeared down the drive, my legs gave out.I slid down the kitchen cabinet until I was sitting on the floor, right next to the coffee stain I still hadn't finished cleaning."I might start to believe in fate."I had said that. Out loud. To the man I was supposed to seduce.I covered my face with both hands. "What the hell was wrong with me?"That was a joke, sir. Like a child caught drawing on a wall. Argh.I grabbed my phone and texted Tonia.Me: I said the word FATE to him.Tonia: WHOMe: Cassius, my boss. The stranger from the bar. They're the same man, Tonia. • The Heir Contract: My One Night Stand    Chapter 8

CASSIUS POVI woke at five. I had woken at five for ten years.By 5:30, I had finished my workout in the home gym I started using after I cancelled my membership. By 5:50, I had showered, dressed, and ignored the email on my phone.Subject: Olivia. Report attached. My assistant worked fast. I should have opened it. I didn't.She was a loose end. Loose ends could wait until after coffee.I walked down the stairs at exactly 5:59. Coffee at six. Then the car. I didn't eat breakfast. I never had.The kitchen light was on.My housekeeper had resigned a week ago. So I probably had a new one by now. I stopped on the last step, my jaw already tightening. Then I heard a small, panicked voice. "Water at forty degrees. Towels in thirds. Never speak unless spoken to…"I stepped into the doorway. The kitchen smelled of coffee and something faintly floral. I had no business recognizing it.A woman stood at my counter with her back to me, pouring coffee with a hand that was shaking so hard it clinke

I could name every Renaissance portraitist from memory. And now I was memorizing how a billionaire liked his towels. You will seduce him, Mr. Lance had said. How exactly was I supposed to seduce a man whose bath had a stricter schedule than my entire life?I pressed my forehead against the cool window. Somewhere between the third traffic light and the fourth, I saw her.A girl stood outside a small photo studio, a camera around her neck and a tripod under one arm. Curly hair in a messy bun. I knew that stubborn tilt of her chin. I would have known it in a crowd of thousands. My heart jumped."Tonia.""Ma'am?" the driver asked."Stop t

  • The Heir Contract: My One Night Stand    Chapter 6

OLIVIA POVI ran until my lungs burned. Not toward home. Just away. Away from that mansion, away from that cold study, away from the man whose face I could never seem to escape.Of all the people in this city to crash into, it had to be him.I stopped at the end of the road, hands braced on my knees, tears dripping onto the pavement. He had caught my wrist. Gently, like I might break. It still tingled, which was ridiculous. He was a stranger. A mistake with a very nice jaw. That was almost worse. I had no right to feel anything at all. Not after what I had just heard.Pull yourself together, Olivia.I had already quit the gym that morning, blaming a family emergency. It wasn't even a lie.I wiped my face, and the last hour came rushing back.A driver had picked me up that morning. Dad hadn't come. I was beginning not to recognize the man my father was becoming. The study was silent. One maid, one door, one very old man behind a very large desk."Sit," Mr. Lance said.I sat.He didn't

  • The Heir Contract: My One Night Stand    Chapter 5

CASSIUS POVI cancelled my gym membership that morning for one reason: to avoid a woman named Olivia."Would you like me to move you to our other branch, sir?" the receptionist had asked."No. Cancel it."Three hours later, my driver slowed at my father's gate, and I was still irritated that I'd had to."Drop me here," I said. "I'll walk the rest of the way."I needed the air. Walking up that long drive was the only way I could face my father without already feeling like I'd lost.I had barely taken ten steps when something small and fast slammed into my chest. A bag hit the pavement. Keys scattered across the stone."Watch where you're going, Miss," I said coldly. She looked up.Bronze eyes. Red. Swollen. Wet with tears. Strands of ash-brown hair clung to her cheeks, and her hands were shaking so hard she dropped her keys twice.Olivia.For one second, neither of us moved. My body remembered exactly how she felt against me. I hated that."You," she breathed. My jaw tightened. "Me."T
