“I don’t need my family for now” Emma said quietly.

Eliana’s brows twitched. “For now?”

Emma met her eyes. “Yes… for now.”

“What do you mean ‘for now’?” She asked, confused. “Are you still going to search for them? Ross said you weren't interested in doing that.”

Emma hesitated. What was Eliana expecting her to say? That she was going to abandon them and search for her family that obviously never cared about her?

“It's fine if you don't want to talk, Emma.” She paused, standing close to her. “Some times you need to ignore every other thing and focus on a new thing. I understand if you think it's not worth—”

“No, it's not.” Emma cut, and smiled. She felt it was all rage bait. And she wouldn't let Eliana get under her skin. She was doing all that to protect her son anyway.

“I'll leave now.” She bowed and walked out of the house.

The sunlight danced against the sleek black car, but it wasn’t the driver waiting at the door anymore, it was Ross.

Emma kissed him back without thinking. She felt his lips landed softly on hers and couldn't pull away. He grabbed her neck tighter, pressed his lips deeper into his hers. For a still moment, it was just desire, pleasure, thrills and chills. Everything else paused and Emma's heart raced faster than it ever had.Her shoulders dropped and, melting into the kiss dangerously. Until the sharp vibration of a phone broke through, Emma didn't realize she was kissing Ross. She jerked away, her eyes wide. Her breath caught, and she stood abruptly, nearly knocking into the table beside her. She calmly grazed her lips, realizing what had just happened. “Shoot! What did I just do!?” She thought to herself. Ross blinked, still caught in that space between tension and awe. He grabbed his phone from his coat pocket and answered. “Hello?”“Ross!” his mother’s voice snapped through the line. “Bring Emma home now.” She said and hung up. He sighed and ended the call, pocketing his phone slowly. When h

Ross exhaled heavily, slumping into his office chair. The echo of the slamming door still rang in his ears, but louder than that was the ominous silence that followed. He rubbed his temples slowly, realizing what he just did. “He got what he deserved. It was bound to happen.” He thought to himself. His mind drifted to the countless times he had to endure and take in everything Vanessa did to annoy him and everything Matt took from him.Childhood friends? YeahChildhood lovers? Definitely not! Ross was so sure his mother only accepted to take care of her best friend’s children because she felt her death was because of her. And he knew his mother would blame him for always being selfish. The Dales had enough money, and they had no problem sharing. But for Ross? It was different. His father never let him spend the company's money unless he worked for it and he got used to that. Taking over only meant one thing, Dales Company was his and no one else's. Not even his mother's. His pho

Ross chuckled, the sound low and amused. “Alright, I won’t yell at you again,” he said, holding up both hands in mock surrender.Liz gave a tiny smirk. “Good. Because I’m going to get busy. I’ll wait for the people I asked for.”He nodded, waiting for a moment before quietly stepping out. The second the door shut behind him, his smile deepened. Liz is nothing like Vanessa. Maybe she's a little bit dramatic, but not as unnecessarily dramatic and clingy as Vanessa. It soothed Ross's heart to know Liz was trying to help. To him, she was going to be his. “Maybe she's mine already and I don't need to stress it out.” He thought as he walked down. Liz, on the other hand, stood in his office glancing through the whole room again. She wasn't even trying to remember if she once had a life. Everything seemed normal with Ross and living with the Dales was comfortable on its own. Eliana never troubles her or gives her a reason to not feel like family. What else was she looking for? She just

"Um…I came to use the bathroom Lily showed me," she began, her soft voice laced with a frustrated tone. "But honestly, there are way too many strange people around, maybe not normal I'd say. “What?” Ross blinked. “Yeah. I just came to use the bathroom and I was fought for it.” She scoffed. “Who was it? Your hair is tangled too.” Ross moved closer and tried to straighten it. “Stop,” She mumbled. “I don't know who she is, but I hope not to cross paths with her again.” Ross chuckled, “It’s just a few days, Liz,” he said, trying to soften his voice. “But I guess I don't have to worry about you getting bullied. You seem to handle it all well.” Liz blinked and walked out of the bathroom. Her eyes scanning the walls for God knows what. Ross followed behind and tried to hold her hands. “What?” She snapped. “Stay calm.” He said. “This is the real world, you can't let them get to you.” “What about you?” She folded her arms. “You’ve been yelling at me since I got here.

"Ross, are you even listening?"The sound of Eliana’s voice, sharp and deliberate, brought Ross back to reality. He blinked, realizing he’d been staring at Liz. His mother hit the table lightly, her lips pursed in disapproval. “Sorry,” Ross muttered, shaking his head. “I was… distracted.” Eliana raised an eyebrow. “Obviously. We were saying you’ll be training Emma at the company. She seems smart, but she’ll need to learn how things work around here.” Ross straightened his posture. “Right. Sure, I’ll handle it.” Before the conversation could continue, Ross’s watch beeped. He glanced down at the notification and stood abruptly, his face darkening. Liz recognized the same tense behavior he’d shown in the car before. Eliana caught the look on Emma’s face and gave her a reassuring smile. “Don’t worry about him, dear. He’s just dealing with something that he’ll fix soon enough.” She leaned closer and added, “Give him time. He’s struggling more than you realize.” Liz nodded, uns
