Chapter 5 Acupuncture Works

Author: Night Eleven
Aria stuck the first needle into the boy without any hesitation.

The boy immediately frowned. It was like he was regaining his consciousness. It looked like he was struggling as his brows furrowed even deeper.

Someone in the crowd yelled, "He's waking up!"

Jimmy was stunned. His face grew pale. "This can't be…"

How did she pull that off? Just one needle? Could a person really regain consciousness from that?

Aria raised her hand again. Her gaze was focused, and she looked very composed.

She stuck the second needle into the boy's fingertips to draw some blood.

Right after she did that, the boy opened his eyes. His pupils were dark and round, while his eyelashes were extraordinarily long.

He glanced at Aria quietly, but his face was still quite pale.

Everyone in the crowd was stunned.

Francine spoke up, "Young lady, you healed with a few pokes of the needle?"

Aria applied some light pressure on the needle. She saw that the bloodletting was done, so she removed the needle and pressed a cotton ball on the wound to stop the bleeding.

"Madam, it's not that simple. Applying acupuncture to the fingertips can help with dissipating the heat. He was inflicted with heat stroke, which was caused by the high temperature. I just helped him cool down with acupuncture."

"Spare me the theatrics. That kid hasn't spoken a word since he regained consciousness. You probably left him with some side effects with your treatment!" Jimmy snorted.

Francine was a little annoyed. "The boy has already regained consciousness. Why are you talking about side effects? Are you just trying to get out of apologizing to the young lady?"

"That's none of your business!" Jimmy looked at Francine and suddenly sneered. "I understand now. You're all in on this. You pulled me here, and she's trying to scam me.

"This is an organized scam, isn't it? I knew traditional medicine practitioners were all scum."

Aria's expression grew cold when she heard that. She was about to raise her hand.

Then, the boy spoke up in a weak but icy tone, "Traditional medicine has always been an essential part of Farshya's culture. You're a lousy doctor, sir. You should put more effort into studying."

"You…" Jimmy was at a loss for words. The boy spoke up right after he said he wasn't healed. The boy even spoke out against him. It was clear that the boy wasn't on his side.

Francine burst out into laughter. "Hey, kid. He's talking about you. You should put more effort into studying."

"I won't waste my breath with you bottom feeders anymore. You're just a group of peasants," Jimmy said in disdain.

Aria flicked a needle in his direction. It brushed past his face and got stuck in a tree nearby.

Such a violent display caused Jimmy to freeze up. Even his legs felt like they were about to give out.

Aria smiled as she said casually, "Don't you think you've forgotten about something?"

She was just a young woman, but she had a very vicious and commanding presence, which caused Jimmy to feel fear.

He tried to keep his cool. "What did I forget?"

"An apology," Aria said as she tapped on her phone. She looked devilishly charming.

Jimmy didn't want to do that. So, he said arrogantly, "Everyone makes mistakes. I don't have any more time to waste with a traditional medicine practitioner like you."

Francine couldn't stand his attitude anymore. "Is this how a student of Dr. Salome Gunther would act? You lost a bet to that young woman, and yet you refuse to apologize? Such ethics…"

"What's wrong with my ethics? Who here can prove I lost a bet to her? None of you will ever have enough money to pay for Dr. Gunther's treatment.

"Me being here and providing free medical services is an honor for all of you. How dare you peasants keep babbling about such nonsense? Don't you dare cause trouble here! Do you even know where you are right now?"

Francine's hands trembled in anger. "You… You!"

Jimmy snorted. He looked at all of them with utter disdain. They were in a modern society. He didn't believe that Aria would dare to do anything to him.

Afternoon sunlight poured through the windows of Los Stratos Airport, throwing jagged shadows across the floor. Aria watched ground crews shuttle across the runway, chin propped on her hand, thinking how Athara felt harsher than Solandria or Mecira—an invisible prejudice that seemed to hang over the whole place.Since the Mecira case closed, they had to come up with a new plan in this strange country. Beside her, Landon rested his eyes. They had plenty of space in first class; luxury did little to ease the fatigue Aria carried. She had been on the move for days, but this was no time to let her guard down.Athara was a unique country, and the NIO wouldn't be that easy to deal with.In Athara, NIO functioned like a Special Missions Unit, with visible branches—intelligence, covert ops, tech, strategic support—and secret divisions only known to the political elite. The speaker announced their arrival, prompting passengers to retrieve their bags and form a queue. However, Aria and

Aria's gaze went cold. "No, you're just an idiot."Before coming to the club, she had planned her makeup and disguise down to the last detail. Ron had no reason to recognize her as the woman from Draycott Auctions. Yet he had somehow sensed something was off. "Let us move to a private room. People might be watching and listening," he said.Aria nodded. "Sure."They walked into the private room one after another. Suddenly, Ron spun around and pointed a gun at her. "You don't work for Mr. Laker. Your story is full of holes.""Are you questioning Mr. Laker?" Aria's voice turned frigid. "Just for that, you've signed your own death warrant."Ron's gaze hardened immediately. "You claim to work for Mr. Laker. How are you going to prove it?"Aria did not answer. She crossed to the table, sat down without hesitation, and crossed her legs. With a casual flick, she tossed a switchblade onto the table, where it landed with a sharp snap. She lifted her eyes and snarled. "Ron, Mr. Lake

Soon, more than ten masked armed men approached the villa where Aria and the others were. The man leading them was the same one who had snuck in earlier. "How did you know we were coming?"Confusion spread among the men. It was as if their mission had been leaked. At the same time, they grew tense—what if this was a setup?"You followed me all the way here," Aria said coldly, fiddling with a switchblade. "Of course I know where you are and what you're doing. Why isn't Fernanski with you? I suppose that figures. He's heartless enough to send you straight to your deaths.""What do you mean?" The leader frowned, scanning his surroundings warily, half-expecting an ambush. Nothing happened, so he turned back. "We don't want trouble. Hand over the bronze cauldron, and we'll let you live."Aria studied him. "It's you. I think I recognize you. Sure, you've got a mask on, but I remember. You're the security guard from the auction house, aren't you?"The man—Manuel Jennings—stiffened, his

The man had wrapped himself so thoroughly that only his eyes showed. An SUV pulled up beside him; he stepped in and the vehicle left Draycott Auctions.Aria rose from her chair, ready to give chase, but Landon stopped her."We can't go after him," he said. "We don't have a car. Remember, we came in Wynric's.""We blew it at the worst possible time. If I'd known this would happen, I'd have arranged a new car." Flat out of options, Aria sank back down.Aria added, "I don't think that was Fernanski. I memorised some of his features.""From where I sat, I got a good look at the license plate. It was 178." Landon stirred his coffee. "Get someone to dig into it."Aria jotted the number and sent it to Madden. The reply came quickly."This license plate belongs to the Atharan embassy's vehicles."Aria frowned. "Atharan embassy…" she muttered. "So the man might work for them."Landon looked up. "If the Atharan embassy is sending people here, this is messier than we thought. We suspecte

When the auction guests heard the auctioneer, they returned to their seats. It was the first time a surprise item had been revealed after the finale. Two staff members carefully carried a tray draped with white silk onto the stage. On it sat an item encased in glass, its form hidden beneath a cloth. The auctioneer raised his microphone, his tone deliberately theatrical."Ladies and gentlemen, the upcoming surprise item is an ancient bronze relic from a distant corner of the world. After expert appraisal, we've determined it to be over 2,000 years old. Its craftsmanship is exquisite, and its collectible value is beyond measure!"As he finished, the staff removed the cloth, revealing the bronze relic. It was a bronze cauldron, a little over a foot tall, adorned with intricate motifs of clouds and beasts. Strange symbols, resembling script, wound across its surface. Two symmetrical beast heads jutted from its sides, heavy with history. This piece was unlike anything auctioned before.

Aria raised an eyebrow, seemingly interested. "What letter?"Brooklyn handed Aria the letter as she said, "If anything, it read more like an instruction."Aria skimmed through it. As Brooklyn had said, the letter listed the tasks Wesson had ordered Braddell to carry out.Brooklyn sighed. "Actually, I've started suspecting him too. Still, we're husband and wife. Without proof, I chose to believe in him. Not long ago, however, I found this letter under the bed.""Maybe he's keeping a backup plan for himself." Aria's mind went still. The letter wasn't particularly useful. Braddell had likely kept it in case Wesson abandoned him in the future."You've read my thoughts." Brooklyn calmed herself before continuing, "Alright, enough of that. Braddell has paid for what he did. I shouldn't have brought him up again. Today is about treating you all to a meal."All of a sudden, Brooklyn turned to Wynric. "Wynric, I heard some commotion outside the restaurant earlier. What was that about?"
