Chapter 76: Our Future

Salem

I ran into the room he had given me. I didn't care to lock the door. I went to the end of the bed lowering myself to the carpet, in tears.

I can never be your mate, the painful words of Alpha Deucalion kept repeating in my head.

My head lowered to the palms of my hand. When I thought there could be us, Alpha Deucalion didn't want it to be. He was still grieving over what he had allowed to happen to me. But I had forgiven him, why can't he forget it, I thought.

The morning had ended and it was the afternoon. I stood at my window looking into the forest eagerly for him to return. I needed to talk to him.

"Ms. Salem," I heard the maid at the door.

I immediately wiped away my tears and turned to her. In her hand, she had a tray of food.

"I brought you your lunch," she told me.

"Please put it on the bed side table," I informed her bringing myself back to the window.

I wasn't hungry. I had lost my appetite. I didn't want to disappoint her after she had taken many hours to prepare it f
