Chapter 2

Claire's POV

Mr. and Mrs.Knight left about two hours later. They had already filed the paperwork for us to live with them, but Jennifer and I would have to wait until it was processed for us to move in with them. Luckily Mr. Knight was good friends with a judge that pulled some strings and made it where we would be able to move in with them the next day.

I decided to take a shower after they left. While in the shower, I couldn't help but think about Mr. and Mrs. Knight. I wondered if I was doing the right thing, moving my sister and me into their home. They seemed like friendly people, but most of the foster families I have stayed with seemed nice as well. Don't get me wrong, many of them were nice, but some were horrible. They would put on a show in front of the nuns and social workers, but they turned into something evil once they were gone.

I was also worried that I might be getting my sister's hopes up. Yes, they said that we would be welcome there as long as we wanted, but sometimes people change their minds. I knew not to get my hopes up, but Jennifer was different. She was more emotional and sensitive. So if they one day changed their mind and sent us back here, she would be devastated.

"Leave me alone," I heard Jennifer say as I walked back to my room.

"I don't care if your sister is here or not, you better finish my chores, or I will beat the shit out of you and her," I heard Monica say, and I ran to the kitchen to see her standing over my sister.

"You better get away from my sister," I snarled as I walked in front of Jennifer.

"Hi, Claire; I was just having a conversation with your sister. She told me that she would clean the kitchen for me today," Monica said nervously.

Monica was your average bully. She would bully the ones that she knew wouldn't fight back. My sister was the type that wanted everyone to like her. She also wasn't the fighting type. But I was, and everyone knew not to fuck with my sister or me.

"Wash them yourself. My sister is not doing any of your chores for you," I said, grabbed Jennifer's hand, and went to our room.

"Did she do anything to you while I was gone?" I asked

"She didn't hit me or anything. She just made me do her chores," Jennifer said

I was so mad and wanted to beat the shit out of Monica, but I didn't want to cause a scene or get into any trouble when we were both out of here tomorrow. This was the first time someone wanted both of us to live in their home. That is the main reason the both of us would do things to get sent back here. We weren't going to leave each other behind.

"Mr. Knight said he would be here early in the morning to pick us up. We should get our stuff packed and ready to go," I said

We began to pack our bags. It didn't even take an hour to have everything packed because we hardly owned anything. All we had were about five pairs of jeans and s few t-shirts. We both only had one pair of shoes. I made sure our old photo albums with pictures of me, Jennifer, and my parents were packed.

We both also had a jewelry box that our mother gave us. It had different types of Jewelry that my mom and dad had given us through the years before their death. One was my grandmother's wedding ring that my dad said she had wanted me to have for when I got married. Apparently, the oldest granddaughter would get the wedding ring, so if I ever have grandchildren, I would pass the ring to my oldest granddaughter when she got married.

Once we were done packing, we decided to go to sleep.

The next Morning

One of the nuns woke my sister and me up, saying that Mr. Knight was on his way to pick us up. I looked over at the clock and saw it was five in the morning. I guess he meant it when he said he would pick us up early. Jennifer took a shower first, and then I took one.

When I came out of the shower, Mr. Knight sat in the living room talking to Nancy. A man was sitting next to him that I assumed was his friend, that was a Judge. When I walked into the room, Mr. Knight smiled at me.

"Hello Claire, are you and your sister all packed and ready," He asked

"Yeah, we packed everything last night," I replied

"That's great; everything is pretty much-taken care of here. Just need to fill out some more papers, and then I will help you with your bags," he said

I went to my room and saw that Jennifer had fallen asleep. I sat on the bed beside her and gently shook her to wake her up.

"Jennifer, Mr. Knight is here. You need to get up," I said

"I am up," she groaned but sat up.

I looked around the room to make sure that everything was ready to go. Mr. Knight came into the room and helped take the bags out to the car. I could tell he was shocked that we didn't have that much stuff, but he didn't comment on it, which I was thankful for.

We said bye to Nancy and the nuns and then jumped into Mr. Knight's Black SUV while he thanked his friend.

"You two ready to go?" Mr. Knight asked

"Yes," Jennifer and I said at the same time.

Mr. Knight began to drive us to our new home.
