Chapter 1

Nova's POV

It was mid afternoon and the sun shone beautifully through the canopy of trees. My father Adam and I walked to the training area in the secluded piece of woods that hid our home from watching eyes. Dad wouldn't allow me or my siblings to venture out. I didn’t mind all too much as I had books to read and my parents kept me busy. Of course I wish I had some friends but I understand their point.

They say that the world is full of dangers and it was for my own good. My father has many enemies. Both the families of the supernaturals he killed and the organization that ordered those kills. According to him even when I got my wolf at sixteen she wouldn't be able to protect me in all situations. That's why he trained me everyday, so I could protect myself.

He grew up as a hunter and not just any hunter he was a member of one of their top families. Apparently my grandfather who I have obviously never met is one of 7 seated members on the Council that rules over the Order of Orion.

I always trained hard. Both because I knew it could be necessary for my survival and I genuinely enjoyed it. Practicing different fighting styles and weapons for three hours every morning and another three every evening. Despite only being 15 I am very proficient in concocting various different poisons, fighting with dual swords, archery and my absolute favourite weapon, throwing stars. I still needed practice with them though as my aim down right sucked. Although I loved them they gave me a challenge.

"Now look at me Nova. Watch how I hold my sword just so," Dad said before he had cut a solid bolder in two. I was in near excitment to do the same. I readied my stance and did my best to copy his movements but I didn't get the same result. Although I couldn't cut it I was not yet discouraged. I had been training since I turned 8. Now I had a new skill to hone.

"You continue without me I'm going to the house to make sure Richy and Sofia aren't causing your mom trouble. But just because I won't be here doesn't mean you can slack off. I'll be back to check on you in a little bit," Dad said before walking away.

I continued practicing with my sword while also taking breaks to practice with the other weapons, namely my throwing knives and to hydrate. I noticed from the suns position it should be just about time for dinner. I was starting to wonder where Dad was. I had already been at the training grounds for nearly three hours if my estimate was correct. Didn't he say he would be checking on me? That's when I heard what sounded like Sofia's screams in the direction of the house.
