High school years and learning Alpha duty’s

Chapter Nine

My first few weeks at school went by in a blur. We were in and out of classes. As usual, I started to get into a groove. My homework and class work went smoothly. At this school, the top academic student scores are posted on the weekly school bulletins, which I tended to be at the top of after the first week. This however did not go unnoticed by my wonderful tormentor Ms. Mary Jo and her two minions. They find pleasure in tormenting me any chance they get. 

Matt has made a few friends. Lots of girls are trying to get his attention. The poor girls don’t know he's gay, but they'll figure it out sooner or later. The rest of us have made some friends as well. There are now about twenty of us in our group of friends. We take up an entire section of the cafeteria at lunch, and of course Miss Queen B is taking notice, but the friends we have made seem to be the outcasts of the school. So that at least is something. 

I've gotten close to a girl who seems a bit shy, but I’m getting her out of her shell a bit. Her name is Isabella Edwards, but she really does not like her full name, so we all just call her Bella. She is small in size, only about four foot four inches tall. She is very spunky and takes pride in her small size, she calls it, being “fun sized”. I think that's why I’m fond of her.

I don’t know why but I feel a pull to her not like a mate, but definitely like there is something off about her, but I can't quite place it. She smells like a human, but at the same time doesn't. My wolf, Midnight Rose, definitely feels a bond to her like that of a shifter bond. It doesn't make any sense, as she is human, at least, I think she is. 

Everyday after school I go home, do my homework. A little bit later, my dad starts his lessons on training me on how to run the pack. He tells me that he is going to try to get me into Alpha University when I graduate, but first we need to get our pack approved by the council. 

We know that is not going to be an easy task. There will be a lot of red tape and questions that need to be answered about the hybrids and other shifter species that will be a part of our pack, we hope. As well as an application we will have to submit online and to present in person to the royals as well as the elder council.

A few weeks later….

When Ashley gets home one day her mom asks her, “Honey, come sit down and talk with me. Why do you look so stressed?” Ashley sits down next to her mom and tells her, “Mom”, she deeply sighed, “I just have a lot on my mind. With all the school work and Alpha Training dad is doing with me every night, it's becoming a bit overwhelming. I need to try to prioritize things and maybe need to work on Alpha training, just on the weekends instead so I’m not getting both things mixed up and it stops becoming overwhelming. That way I can have less things on my mind at a time.”

Violet looks at her daughter and lets out a small sigh, then shakes her head and tells her, “Ashley Renee Smith, you know you can’t lie to me. I know that's not all that is going on with you. I know something is bugging you, honey, you can tell me anything. I won't judge you and I will help you the best I can. Now, will you please tell me what is on your mind?”.

Ashley looks at her mom and lets out another small sigh as well, “Ok mom, so I have this friend at school. I don’t really know, there's something about her. I just can't put my finger on it. She is human, or at least, I think she is. However, me and Midnight Rose feel like she might not be just human, and it's bugging me that I can't place it.”

Violet says, “Well, honey, you haven’t gotten to that part of your Alpha training yet. You see, Alphas, Luna’s, Beta’s, and Gamma’s once they take their respective titles, have this, Sense, that can tell if someone has either a wolf, dragon, witch, pixie, fairy, vampire or other shifter trait.”

At that point Ashley’s Father Havrith walks into the room and sits down next to them, catching the last thing his wife, and Luna, Violet says to their daughter. “Ash, honey,” he says. “We will eventually get to that part of your training in the next few weeks. You’ll also learn more about that topic while at Alpha University. However, in the meantime, can you please fill me in on what Midnight Rose is telling you she thinks this friend might be? Also, please tell me any other concerns you might be having. You know I’m always here for you to talk to me about anything.”

“Well dad, Midnight Rose feels a pull to her like that of kin or shifter, but not of mate. Maybe an omega wolf, but definitely not just human. Also I'm really thinking we need to cut down the Alpha training. I’m starting to get the terms mixed with my school work and intermingling it into all my human school lessons.” Ashley says to her dad.

Havrith looks at his daughter after a deep thought. “Honey, I do believe she is indeed not a human, or at the very least has other worldly DNA in her. We would have to meet her or her parents to sense what they might be, as it’s hard to tell from this distance. It's easier to tell what someone is after they shift or their powers manifest, but at the very least one of her parents is indeed either human or a shifter of some kind.” 

Violet says “honey, I have an idea how about we, as in you, me, the girls, and Matt. Along with your friend Bella, as well as a couple of the other moms, and maybe Bella’s mom, all go to the mall? We can do some shopping and u all can hang out together and I can try to get a sense of what she, or her mom, might be. Who knows sweetie, she may very well be your mate you know. However,  you and Midnight Rose won't be 100% sure until the night of the full moon after your eighteenth birthday.”

Ashley, looking as bright as a tomato, covers her face with her hands, after a few moments, she composes herself. she then says, “Sure mom! That would be a great idea, as you would be able to pick up on what she or her mom might be. I'll ask her tomorrow at school if she would like to hang out this Saturday at the mall.”

“Now Ash, honey,” Havrith says “As far as Alpha training is concerned. I will start only giving you forty five minutes to an hour of training, which will be more of the non office stuff, at night and will do eight hours a day Saturdays and Sundays, which will be more of the office stuff, like the laws and command terms needed to be known, to give you a break. How does that sound?”

“Thanks Dad.” Ashley says “Mom, Dad? Do you think the other packs, as well as the king and council will accept me as Alpha? I am after all a girl, I know there will be those that wish to challenge me because of that. I'm worried that I'll let you down, if I don't show them I can do it.”

“Sweetie,” Violet says “You will be an amazing Alpha. You’ll run this pack with love, respect, and plenty of strength. You are an amazing fighter, that is why our old alpha made you head of your own unit. You know better than me how strong you are. You know how proud of you, both your dad and I are of you. We know you will be amazing, and besides, your pack will love you and be there for you. Don't worry honey, you will be fine.”

“Yes mom, you’re right, though speaking of our pack. How do you think we should vet new members and make sure they are a good fit in our pack?” Ashley says. “Honey,” my dad says, “You let me worry about that. I'll make sure you have a good strong pack to take over. You just worry about getting us recognized as an official pack, you will be key for that.”

“ Hey, dad, there are some other things I’ve been thinking about for our pack once we get more people. I think it would be awesome to host pack tournaments once a month, which will be for ranking up in warrior standings. We could also invite allied packs and test our skills against each other.” 

“Also, what about hosting Four Seasonal Full Moon Mating Balls as well?  We could set up an event area that non pack members can go to for these balls, so that we can still protect our pack. Then we can also be able to have areas to shift or use our abilities as well as for tournament events. You know something between The pack facilities and town facilities, we could put in a gate with guards to vet people to protect our shifters and abilities users from the human townsfolk.” 

“Maybe I can talk to the Enchanted Packlands and see if they could put up a mirage or something so that beyond the ‘Gate’ it only looks like the entrance to an Estate instead of the packhouse and other pack members' housing?”

“We will need a way to make sure NO ONE not permitted gets to an area they're not supposed to be. Maybe rotating guards with a Guard House at the gate entrance and the use of CCTV. So humans don't see us in shifted form. We could maybe use Witch, Fae or Pixies to patrol along the outside areas we don’t want humans in, since they can look more human or use Glamour, so the rest of us don't expose ourselves in our shifted form, which is our stronger side?”

“I was also thinking we could use the human pack members in as many areas as we can, to deal with other humans as well. However, make sure they do not use the Pack terms like Alpha, Luna, Beta or Gamma titles, while in the areas where humans hang out the most. We could let the Witches, Pixies, and Fae have an Apothecary-like store in the town area to sell potions and the like to humans, as most of them won't do anything on or for them but humans seem to eat the stuff up.”

“I was also thinking we could start a consulting firm in the human world for things like security, law and offer private body guards. Another thing we might want to consider is maybe also adding two different orphanages one for the ones we know are of the shifter/supernatural world and one for the humans where the high ranks can “Sense” if the child has any shifter or supernatural gene and be moved to the one that is for that type of care, since they will have different needs than human orphans.”

Havirth smiled widely while saying, “See sweetie, this proves you will make an amazing Alpha and Leader in every sense of the title.” Ash smiles and gives her parents a hug and says, “Thanks Dad and Mom.”.

The next day at school I asked Bella and a few other girls if they would want to meet up this weekend at the mall to do some shopping. I told them that a few of our moms are coming as well and they could invite their Moms too so they can get to know each other as well for possible sleep overs at some point. They are excited and text their moms during lunch and all agree especially the ones pining after Matt, after they find out he’s going too.

Saturday morning at 9:00 am when the mall opens we all meet up at the food court to get our game plan of what stores we want to go check out clothes and accessories in. Bella and her mom Paula are the 1st to arrive and I introduce them to my mom and the other girls moms. Over the next 10 minutes the other girls and a few of their moms arrive and introductions are made. 

I look over at my mom and see her look fondly at both Bella, her mom Paula and a few other moms. The moms let us go to a few stores alone as long as we stayed together in groups of 5 or more, in total there’s 14 girls and Matt, of us kids, and 7 moms. Some of the girls' moms already knew each other and trusted their judgement.

We go into Forever 21, Claire's, Hot Topic, and Spencers along with Torrid before we meet back up for lunch with the moms. All the clothes we liked we put a hold on at the front registers like our moms told us to do and we’ll go back after lunch to pay for them. The accessories we were able to buy at the time we were in the stores with our allowances. 

When we met up in the food court again I saw my mom had an interesting look on her face and gave her the ‘Is everything ok’ look. She nodded her head so I just let it pass for now but I will definitely ask her about it later when we are back home. While shopping the girls that were pining for Matt found out that he was gay with his Fashion Sense of everything that was in current season and what looked good on everyone and what didn’t.

Violet’s POV

When Ashley introduced me to Bella and her Mom Paula, I had instantly sensed that Paula was a full shifter, though Bella was only half shifter. I figured it would be best to ask her about it once we were away from the kids and maybe a few other moms. I sensed maybe a few other moms were part shifter but the gene wasn’t as strong in them as it was in Paula and Bella.

“It’s Nice to officially meet you Bella” I said. “Hello Mrs. Smith, This is my Mom Mrs. Edwards, I actually don’t know my moms 1st name. lol.” Mrs. Edwards shook her head and smiled at her daughter and said, “Hello I’m Paula Edwards, it's nice to meet you.” “It’s nice to meet you Paula, I’m Violet Smith, Ashley’s mom.”

I then said hello to the other moms and girls as they showed up. Once the girls and Matt drifted off towards the stores away from us I asked the moms if they would like to shop around as well or go get some coffee with me as it will be needed for this many girls. A few of them laughed and the others smiled and we decided to go get some much needed coffee and get to know each other better.

While standing in line with all the moms coffee orders written on my phone, Yes, I offered to pay for them. Paula decided to stand in line with me to help carry all 7 of the drinks back to the large table in a corner that we decided to use to talk and get to know each other with. 

We started to chit chat and nothing too deep of conversation but I noticed that she seemed a little tense. I asked her “Hey Paula are you ok? You seem a little tense.” To which she whispered, “I know that you are a shifter, as I do not have a pack, I can sense it. However I know that these other moms are not full shifters so I do not wish to discuss this around them.”

I replied “Maybe in a little bit we can break off from the other moms and talk privately about it?” She agreed. So we carried the drinks back to the table and resumed conversation with the other moms for a couple hours, then some wanted to break off and go get their shopping done along with getting a head start on upcoming presents shopping.

The other 3 moms who were friends decided to go off together and meet back up at the food court around noonish for lunch. While Myself and my 2 warrior protectors and Paula went and found a more private area we could talk in. 

Paula was at 1st tense with my 2 warrior protectors with us but I calmed her down after I told her that they are shifters as well and that we are part of the same pack. Paula then decided to tell her story to me as the other 2 standed guard to make sure we had privacy.

Paula told me that she was kicked from her pack “The Pure Bloods Pack” due to her having a human mate. They didn't allow that there, they called her impure so she and John, her human fated mate decided to move here to Wolf Creek Colorado. She said that John doesn’t know that she is a full werewolf shifter or that he’s her fated mate. She’s not sure if Bella will have any shifter genes until she is 18 and doesn’t want them to know as of right now, and she will figure out what to tell John if Bella shifts on her 18th Birthday or not.

“Paula, we are more than just wolf shifters and are considered hybrid shifters, as there is more than one shifter gene in us. I am considered a high ranking member in our pack and can sense that your daughter Bella has the shifter gene present in her.”

“If you would like, I can talk to our Alpha and see if you and your family can join our pack. So that when Bella does shift on her 18th birthday she will be around other shifters that can help her through the process.”

Paula thinks it over and says she will discuss it with her husband tonight as they are also having some money problems but knows the closest pack is over 700 miles away and asks about our pack. I tell her that it’s a newly formed pack that is mainly right now just the 6 kids and their parents. The pack is roughly a 30min drive from town and it’s on enchanted lands. The Pack name that the kids chose was Blood Moon Eclipse and that they are wanting to be a neutral type of pack with all shifter species.

An hour later we met back up with the other moms and kids for lunch and then went to the stores the kids had their clothes held at and paid for them after a few Vetoes from us mothers on some of the clothes.

ASHLEY’S POV

When we went to the stores after lunch to pay for the clothes we each picked out, our moms wanted to see what we chose. Not going to lie, some of my clothes were also vetoed from my mom, but I noticed that my mom helped pay for most of Bella’s clothes, as her mom was a little bit short on money. Paula and Violet talked about it. My mom wanted to pay for the more expensive clothes while Bella’s mom paid for the less expensive clothes to show good faith on maybe them joining us.

After shopping mom reminded me that we needed to get back home because I had my ‘college prep’ classes to do, so we all got into our vehicles and headed home. Once home I tried to ask my mom what she found out but she said it is not for me to know just yet and she will let me know at a later time. She also said she needed to talk to my father about some things privately and to go get ready for my Alpha training courses, and walked away.
