Jade’s pov

Hearing my cell phone begin to ring in my shorts back pocket I gritted my teeth and sat down on the couch to muffle the sound or possibly end the call.

Seeing Nikolai rush toward me with a suspicious scowl on his face I gave him an innocent look in return.

Stopping before me he thrusted his open palm to me and growled, “Give me it, NOW!”

“I will but please let me know who it is that is calling me. I haven't heard from my parents yet and fear that they're dead from the comet,” I said sullenly as I dug my cell phone out of my pocket and he grabbed it from my hand.

Watching him glance down at the screen he turned it to face me and said, “It says, Mom.”

It stopped ringing and I frowned.

“You can call her back and tell her that you are fine, but make it quick, or your friend is dead,” he asserted.

Surprised by his offer, I decided to ask him about the destruction.

“Did a comet hit the ocean and destroy parts of the Earth?”

His blue eyes crinkled at their corn

Nikolai Romonav's pov After I spoke with Thomas I headed upstairs and walked through my living room to see Marcus and Trey drinking my brandy. “Hey, Commander, have you seen James?” Marcus asked with an odd grin. Shaking my head, I told him that I sent him to contact my pilot to prepare my commercial plane, and he nodded as he lifted his glass toward me in a mock salute. Wondering why the pair were acting oddly, I shook my head in annoyance and dismissed it as I headed to the stairs. “What are you doing, Sir?” Marcus asked. I paused to glare back at him. “I'm going to check on my prisoner, and keep your dirty paws off my good liquor,” I growled as I continued up the staircase. I entered my room and unease filled me as I glared around the unoccupied space. “Jade?!” I shouted as I checked the bathroom and my bed for the young woman. “She must have run away,” Ares growled sourly in my mind as my eyes narrowed, and my jaw twitched. “Sniff for her scent,” I demanded

Jade Pinkerton pov Pulling on my hair I was conflicted. I was attracted to Nikolai but he was a murderer and not human. “What in the hell am I doing,” I groaned internally as I sat on the couch and rubbed my face. “He drank too much of my blood and has clouded my thoughts, obviously,” I huffed. The chains clanked against each other as they hung from the cuffs on my wrists. Exhaling deeply, I glanced at the doorknob, turning. I narrowed my eyes, awaiting who I assumed was Nikolai or Jesse as they entered. So when the Marcus fellow entered wearing camouflage clothing I furrowed my brow. “Come with me, Miss, the Commander needs you,” he said nervously, causing me to cock my eyebrows at him. “Tell me what he needs me for? He's already taken a lot of my blood and I need to recuperate,” I muttered. Seeing his face contort in rage, I was startled when an unfamiliar-looking mountain of a man entered next. “Grab her quickly, Trey, she is a feisty human. Let's take her to the

Jade Pinkerton pov Feeling him finally licking my neck, I closed my eyes, savoring the jolts of pleasure it caused. “Please don't try to run away from me again,” Nikolai growled softly, causing me to crack open my right eye and peek at him. “Why would you ask me that?” I questioned as I turned to face him. He lowered his eyes and muttered, “Just don't, Jade.” Studying his attractive features I exhaled softly. “If I agreed not to run away, may I stay out of the cage and be able to sleep on this couch at least?” Rolling his eyes he heaved bitterly, “Were you not listening to me before? We're leaving this place and going to another one of my houses. I don't need you running off and getting lost in the forests there.” “Aw, you really care about me…will my friend also be coming, and Jesse too?” Nodding his head, he explained that Thomas and Jesse were part of his household and traveled with him wherever he went, which made me smile. “Great, I like them both and always w

Jade Pinkerton pov Struggling to raise my legs, climbing the steps seemed impossible. I hissed as I looked up at Jesse. My thoughts of escape had been thwarted unintentionally. “I'm not going to turn into a vampire from Thomas's scratch am I?” I asked worriedly. Furrowing her brow she laughed nervously and waved at me dismissively. “Oh no, you would need to receive an actual conversion bite with the venom of someone who really wanted you to convert. So a mate or a really ancient vampire or werewolf to experience the change. I'm certain that you just got a bit infected from Thomas's dirty claws since all he does is tend to your friend. I will get you to the Commander's bed and bring you up some hot chicken broth. I believe that it helps sick humans.” I was happy that Monica was being cared for but loathed being ill. Although the thought of sleeping on Nikolai's comfortable-looking bed instead of the hard floor made my feet begin to tread up the steps. “When is he expec

Jade Pinkerton pov Leaning against the cage, I looked up at the bedroom door opening slowly, and the young servant girl, Jesse, peeking inside. “Do you want to talk?” She asked me quietly and I gave her a confused scowl. “What is there to talk about?” I questioned rudely. Giving me a pout she scurried inside and then pushed a chair toward my cage. “I overheard you telling the commander that you were bored, and since I'm all alone here now, I'm bored as well,” she said curtly as she sat and faced me. “How old are you even?” I asked bluntly. Fiddling with her hands on her lap she sighed. “I'm sixteen and my mom was killed at the warehouse in your town…I was told you were responsible,” Jesse ground out as her strange colored eyes rose to my startled ones. “I, I uh, I was trying to save people,” I blurted, and she tilted her head as she studied me. “By killing mine?” “There were others who were fighting back. So it wasn't just me,” I lied while my mind pictured the

Jade Pinkerton pov Looking at the tray before me I glanced up and watched Nikolai rise to leave me with his own food. I wanted to question him more about my dad but it was obvious that it was a sore subject for him. He headed into his office while I looked at what was on my plate. My stomach gurgled as I lifted the chicken leg and took a big bite. “Mmm this is good, my compliments to your chef,” I announced and heard Nikolai grunt. “Guess someone pissed on yours,” I muttered sourly and heard him rolling his desk chair backward into the bedroom with the food tray balancing on his lap. Glancing up at him, I noticed that he was chewing on a T-bone that hung from his mouth. He ripped it away then eyed me. “I'm trying to enjoy my meal, okay, chatty Cathy. I enjoy having my meals in peace; otherwise, I would be downstairs with my men,” he asserted. I took another bite of the chicken leg and nodded as I lowered my eyes from his intense ones. I continued to watch him eat like a savage
