Jade Pinkerton's pov

Standing next to Nikolai I peered at his profile and felt my insides churning. My heart felt odd as if it wanted to break out from my chest.

I pulled my hand from his as I rubbed the area and screwed my face as I tried to calm the organ. Curious if being this supposed hunter was what was causing my odd reaction to Nikolai I eyed him warily.

“What's wrong?”

Shaking my head slightly I felt my hand close tightly, my fingernails leaving half moons in my palm.

“What exactly is a hunter? I heard Monica and Thomas mention my mark…Am I not human?” I questioned as I eyed him worriedly.

Shrugging, he explained, “Honestly, I am uncertain. I just know that there is a bloodline of humans who are more equipped with knowledge on how to dispose of cryptids like me.”

Pinching my mouth tightly, I couldn't shake the pissed off feeling that needed rectifying. Wishing to tear apart the two who tried to kill me weighed heavily on my mind.

    Jade Pinkerton's pov A couple of months later~ Standing awkwardly with an axe in my hand, I gauged the distance to the target covered in snow, then released it. It tore through the frigid air, then buried itself in the bullseye, giving me a smile. My stomach sank as my eyes focused on my nightstand to see a long-stemmed red rose and a handwritten letter addressed to me. “Did he leave to get the twin,” I muttered sourly as I reached to grab the note. Nearing my ear she asked how I knew. “Asher told me,” I chirped excitedly and she pouted. “I haven't told Thomas yet.” Asher tilted his head toward Thomas as he laughed, “I believe he knows now.” Monica and I turned to see Thomas's face light up with happiness as he rushed forward to greet my best friend.
