Having dinner with his family, Adams tried to figure out the best time to share the disturbing news with them. He was so sure that it would spoil the atmosphere around the dining table for everyone and he hated being the bearer of bad news that job had already been taken by his younger sister, Karen.

The meal of hot spaghetti and fish tasted sour in his mouth today. This is no disregard to Mrs. Bright's cooking, who, for the record, is such a great cook. Adams's mind was busy trying its best to process everything that would soon become his new reality that his taste buds seemed not to be functioning. He felt preoccupied and distracted.
