If you think the wolf pack I was in was a fucking problem to me, then you thought wrong. Our biggest enemy was actually the N.O.P.D a.k.a. New Orleans Police Department. I wasn’t the only one who thought they were a bother. My older brother, Seth, did as well. They irritated him more than anybody, and that wasn’t a good thing at all. Seth had low patience when dealing with them pigs and seeing him irritated is something that nobody should ever witness. I never saw him rage unless we had a confrontation with them. It was just one of those days, and of course, these cops will stop anybody they want to stop. It just so happened that today was Seth and me.

“ Get the fuck off me!” I shouted while my face was being slammed against the wall.

I looked over at Seth, who was slammed as well. I swear, these pigs fuck with anybody they want to. They don’t mess with the humans as much, though. It’s always members from different wolf packs they like to mess with. It was because they knew about us. They knew about our “other side.” There’s supposed to be a treaty between us and the pigs, the hunters and our fellow wolves. Some abide by the treaty, but there are some people that don’t agree with it. People such as Officer Ramirez and Officer Kravis are the prime examples of not giving a fuck about the treaty. They choose to do what the hell they want to do, and they choose who they do it to. They don’t give a damn about a printed piece of paper with a signature from the higher-ups.

As the cops had us pinned against the wall, my eyes stayed on Seth. His face was covered by his thick brown hair, but I knew he was getting irritated. When my brother gets irritated, he’ll shift.

“ I’m so happy you two are our first suspects.” Officer Ramirez said with a smirk on his face. “ Seth and Dominic Greyson, the two stray dogs of New Orleans.”

When Seth finally looked at me, the way he was looking frightened me a little bit. His eyes were a yellow glow, which came from his wolf trying to come out.

“ Calm down, Seth.” I whispered softly to Seth.

“ Do you two bitches have something to say?” Officer Ramirez asked, walking back over to us. “ I’d love to hear what you two are whispering about. Hell, I love secrets."

“ You’re always picking on us.” Seth growled at them. “ Find some other people to fuck with.”

“ Why would we do that?” Officer Kravis asked, walking up to us, blocking my view from Seth.

“ We’re more interested in the two of you.” Officer Ramirez announced. “ Well, we’re interested in anyone who’s not human.”

I turned my head to the left and saw London standing there. Then, Janelle and the people that were in the bar, joined her. Janelle walked up to us, and Officer Ramirez groaned before turning his attention to them.

“ If you’re trying to make amends, save it, Janelle.” He told her.

Janelle laughed, pulling a cigarette and a lighter from her pockets. I watched as my sister put the cigarette in her mouth, lit it up with the lighter and took her first puff from the stick.

“ Why is it that you guys start shit around my place of business?” Janelle asked, taking another puff of the cigarette.

“ This has nothing to do with you, Wolf.” Officer Ramirez said, walking up to Janelle.

“ This has everything to do with me.” Janelle said, stepping up to Officer Ramirez. “ You’re near my bar!”

“ If it weren’t for that fucking treaty, that bar would’ve been burnt down.” Officer Kravis said, slamming his elbow onto my back.

My sister laughed before taking a step up to Officer Ramirez.

“It wouldn’t be right without two bodies burning with it, am I correct?”

Officer Kravis got off of me and walked over to Officer Ramirez. Both of the officers were pissed from Janelle’s comment. Officer Kravis was going to say something back until they both had gotten a call on the police radio, letting them know there was a domestic violence case around the corner from here.

“ You're really starting to piss me off, Wolf.” Kravis said, removing the handcuffs off both Seth and me.

“ That’s great, right?” Janelle said as they walked away to their police car. “ It should let you know that you have the right one.”

Seth and I walked over to Janelle and London. The cops glared at us one more time before they got into their police cruiser and drove away. Once they left, Janelle turned her attention to the customers behind us.

“ You guys can go back inside the bar.” She told them.

The customers went back into the bar, leaving just Erika, London and Erika’s friend outside with us.

“ Go tend to the bar.” Janelle ordered.

Erika, who was still staring at Seth, nodded her head and headed back inside with her friend right after her.

“ Please tell me you weren’t about to shift?” Janelle asked Seth.

“ You already know I was, Janelle.” Seth told her, still trying to calm down.

Janelle sighed, and she turned to me. “What happened?” She asked. “ And why in the hell is London here?”

“ I’m standing right here.” London told her.

“ I don’t care.” Janelle said, looking at her with irritation. “ You need to go back to your husband.”

      “ Ex-husband!”

“ It doesn’t matter.” Seth said. “ Why are you with us?”

“ She’s just hanging out with me.” I told them, and they gave me the most evilest look ever.

Janelle walked up to me and placed her lips to my ear.

“You need to leave that alone.” She whispered. “ She is your Alpha’s baby mama, and you can’t have a relationship with her.”

I pulled away and nodded my head. I already knew I couldn’t be with London, but I enjoy the fact that I can hang out with her. Janelle and Seth are always doing their own thing, and mom is always working with Aunt Nancy at the fish market. So, hanging out with London couldn’t hurt at all.

Remembering my sister’s words, I decided to head back to the Bayou the place where the pack lived. London followed me to avoid my sister’s wrath. As we walked, the silence continued to fill the air between us. I didn’t know what to say to her, and she didn’t know what to say to me. However, not speaking is going to kill us both.

“ I’m sorry.” She apologized as we headed back to our place of residence.

“ You didn’t do anything.” I told her.

“ I did. I got you in trouble with your sister for hanging out with me.”

“ We can hang out, but there can’t be a relationship between us.”

She nodded her head and didn’t speak afterward. I looked at her, and she turned to me, giving me a small smile in the process.

“ Your sister doesn’t like me very much.” She said as we got closer to Bayou.

“ Well, you were married to the Alpha.” I reminded her.

She sighed and shook her head.

“ Yeah, but we were friends before all that.”

Seeing how hurt she was, I nudged her gently, knocking her to the side. She chuckled before nudging me, knocking me on the ground. She laughed harder this time before extending her hand out to me. I shook my head, but grabbed her hand anyways. She pulled me up, and we continued to walk.

When I looked ahead, trouble was waiting for us. James and a couple other pack members were waiting for us at the entrance of the Bayou. We approached them, and James snorted, looking at the both of us with disgust.

“ So, I see why you dumped me.” He told her, crossing his arms in front of his chest. “ You wanted to be with the Reject, right?”

“ What are you talking about?” London asked him. “ Where’s our son at?”

“ He’s with Jenny.” James announced.

London growled when he told her that. I shook my head, and James turned his attention back to me.

“ You got something to say to me?” James asked while walking up on me.

“ James, stop.” London said, trying to get in between us, but James pushed her away.

       “ Don’t touch her.” I told him.

“ She’s my wife; I can do whatever I want with her.” James said.

“ Ex-wife!” I shouted at him, and he pushed me.

I was so tired of James’ disrespect towards me. He always had something to say when I was near him. He’d even say it in front of my family. Seth is the only one that says something to him about it, but it doesn’t help.

“ Maybe I need to remind you of my fucking rules!” James shouted back at me, his voice deeper than before. “ You stay the FUCK away from my family! Do you understand me, you fucking Reject?!”

I looked over at London, who was staring at the both of us. James grabbed my face and turned my head back over to his direction.

“ Answer me when I’m fucking talking to you!” He shouted once more.

“ I hear you.” I told him, pulling away from his grasp. “ You keep your hands off my face.”

James smirked at me before he grabbed London’s hand and pulled her with him. They disappeared into the forest, leaving me there all by myself. I swear I wonder how London put up with his ass for those two years.

“ You need to leave her alone, bro.” I heard Seth’s voice from behind me. “ You know what you’re doing is not right.”

I turned around and saw Seth walking towards me. I sighed and put my hands behind my head.

“ She was my friend before she became the Alpha’s wife, Seth.” I told him.

“ So? That was back in the day when you guys were kids. You’re not that little boy anymore, and she’s not the same girl anymore. What are you hoping to accomplish from this relationship?”

His question stuck to me like glue. It even formed questions within my head: Why was I hanging out with London? What did I want from her? Why was I trying to keep this friendship going with her?

“ Please tell me you’re not trying to get with her?” He asked, breaking my thoughts.

“ You know I’m not.” I told him. “ I don’t want a relationship with anybody. Hell, I don’t even know how to love. So, I don’t get what the fucking problem is!”

Seth chuckled before walking to the entrance of the swamp. Before he walked in, he turned to me and shook his head.

“ If you want to sit there and act innocent like you don’t know why this man just went off on you, then you’re dumber than you look.”

He walked in, leaving me as well.

As much as I hate hearing my brother talk, he wasn’t wrong about this one. I’ve never followed James’ rules because they were dumb as fuck. That’s why our pack is the smallest out here in New Orleans. James’ rules have made this pack strict as hell and there were members that have left because of them. If anything, I say that if we ever had a battle between the vampires and the police together, we would be completely outnumbered. The rules he set up is bringing us completely down. It’s terrible when the other wolves don’t want anything to do with us. We are at the bottom of the list once it comes to population. At least we got some strong members in our pack.

Walking into the Bayou, I began thinking of the strong wolves who made this pack survive even if we were low on numbers. Their strength and abilities give these other members hope that we won’t die down. There’s James, Seth, Janelle, my mom, Jenny, London, and even Brittany. Because of these wolves, the pack is holding on by a thread. Every pack is to have about 60-70 pack members. My pack has only about 20 members, and that’s not a lot. You see the same faces every day and to be honest, it’s annoying.

I made it to my house, and I saw my mom waiting for me on the patio. From the way she was looking, it seems that Seth told her what happened. I walked up to the door, but she blocked my way.

“ You better not mess with her.” Mom whispered in an angry tone. “ I don’t want James coming after you over a stupid decision.”

“ Mom, are you fucking kidding me right now?” I whispered back to her. “ I already heard it from two people, I don’t need to hear it from you.”

“ Then stop hanging out with her.”

“ For fucking what? Because James wants to be a little bitch and be in his feelings? Fuck him and his dumb ass rules. You guys can follow that shit, but me, I’m going to follow my heart.”

I shook my head and walked away from the house. These people are a fucking trip. I decided to head to my usual spot: the swamp. I needed to clear my head. Being here was getting to be too much, and it won’t be long before I fucking snap on everybody. I took a seat on the boulder and I began to think some more. I don’t understand anybody around here. We were already a laughing stock because of James' six rules.

1.   Pure bloods Only

2.   No casual conversations with James’ wives.

3.   No killing without reason

4.   No shifting outside of wolf territory

5.   There shall not be any kinds of relationships between humans or vampires and werewolves.

6.   Any of these rules shall result in being cast out of the pack.

These rules are so fucking stupid, and I just can’t believe our pack leader, our Alpha, came up with that. That’s why I disobey him. That’s why I can’t take him seriously. If I had my wolf and the abilities my wolf carried, I would have been overthrown that stupid son of a bitch. But the way things were going, it was not happenin no time soon. So, following this asshole was going to be for a while longer.

“ Hey.” Someone said behind me.

I turned around and saw London standing there with her baby boy in her arms. I sighed and turned back to the house.

“ Don’t do this.” She begged.

“ Do what?” I asked her. “ All I’m doing is walking away from you.”

“ For what? Because of James telling you to stay away from me?”

     I continued walking away.

“ Wow, what happened to you being the one who doesn’t follow the rules?”

That question caused me to stop. I turned around to look at her, placing a smirk on my face.

“And I still don’t follow your husband’s rules.” I told her, then continued to the house.

My family was right: I don’t need to be with that girl.
