chapter twenty-four

[ IN WHICH SHE MEETS AN OLD FRIEND ]

A tavern is a bar.

If I had known this, I wouldn’t have walked with Jacqueline. The bar is hundreds of conversations told in loud voices, all of them competing with the other that dominates the atmosphere. A noisy place like this isn’t my scene. A bar is the last place anyone would find me. Everyone— even my fans back on earth know this. Don't get me wrong, I am not some innocent duckling who hasn't had alcohol in her life. In the past, I have struggled with alcohol dependency. It started while I was struggling to fit into the model industry at such a young age. Those days are the depressing times that I'll never want to recall.

And being here in the tavern doesn't help matters. I'm only reminded of the articles that spread the internet that depressing night. It featured me, half-naked and puking on the roadside.

That taught me a lesson; almost ruined my career.

So, when I say I do not want to be here, I mean it. However, I cannot leave, because
