Chapter 1: The Players Behind the Curtain

It was nearly eleven at night. A heavy, oppressive silence had descended upon the main building of Royal Metropolitan University. Outside, the rain—no, not rain, the last drizzle of autumn like a child learning to cry, sobbing as it slid down the window grilles.

At the very end of the third-floor corridor, that half-broken tube light flickered as before—as if it was burning out of fear, afraid to go dark.

The last door of that corridor was shut. Inside was Aaryan.

The room was hauntingly beautiful—deep sapphire walls, polished Italian marble floors, and massive mahogany bookshelves that reached the ceiling like a museum. In the center of this elegance sat Aaryan. At nineteen, his eyes held a cruelty older than life itself. A luxury Rolex Submariner glinted on his wrist—not that time moved by its hands, but rather, his touch seemed to make time freeze.

And across from him sat Safa.

Eighteen years old. Her eyes were swollen, red—like two memories drenched in blood. She was trembling. The entire table trembled with her. Her gaze was locked on the laptop screen, where a film of her own humiliation was playing.

Ten nights ago. The deserted alley behind the campus library. That place where the CCTV cameras couldn't see. Aaryan and Safa—no one else. But the recording was so clear, as if someone's eyeball had been hidden inside a dustbin's hole.

"Wonderful quality, isn't it?" Aaryan's voice was low, dangerously sweet. "HD. Clearer than a YouTube video."

A muffled sob escaped Safa's throat. "Why are you doing this?"

Aaryan leaned forward slightly. Then the scent of his perfume drifted across the table—a sharp, dark fragrance, like honey smeared on a blade's edge.

"Your father wanted me expelled," he said. Each word from his throat was like a piece of stone. "Last Thursday, he sent a four-page letter to the Chancellor calling me the 'campus cancer.' I've memorized his words—he wrote them so beautifully."

"I didn't know anything about that," Safa whispered, her voice cracking.

"You should have," Aaryan snapped, his voice like a whip.

He opened another folder on the laptop—'Shadow Proof.' A video began to play. There was Safa's father, Mr. Rahman, in a locked storeroom with the Principal's secretary. The clip was only fifteen seconds long, but it felt like it would last forever.

Safa's eyes looked as if they would burst out of their sockets. "This… what is this?"

"Reality." Aaryan closed the laptop with a sharp snap—the sound cut through the air like a knife. "Your father pretends to be a saint. He keeps a curtain drawn over his sins. And I am the one who can pull that curtain back at any moment."

Safa stood up. Her legs were shaking. Her whole body shook. Poison dripped from her voice. "This is blackmail."

"This is business." Aaryan walked toward the rain-lashed window. Raindrops hit his face, but he didn't close his eyes. "Your father will support me in the Teachers' Council. He will tell them I'm a model student. In exchange, this video stays safe in my vault."

"And if he refuses?"

Aaryan smiled. That smile was like fake gold hidden inside a rotten coat. "Then his career ends tomorrow morning. His honor, his family—everything ends. Do you want that for your mother and younger sister?"

Safa didn't answer. She just ran out. The darkness of the corridor swallowed her whole.

Aaryan closed the door. He looked at himself in the mirror. Adjusted his jacket. Perfect.

---

A black Mercedes waited at the entrance. "To the penthouse," he commanded the driver.

In the car, he texted Mr. Rahman—cold, calculated, every word a hidden dagger. A minute later, the reply came:

"I've withdrawn the complaint. You don't need to come. Stay quiet."

Aaryan deleted the message. Outside, raindrops slid down the window. Inside his chest, the fire of power was burning. He knew—this fire could burn someone to ash, or make someone a god.

---

When he reached the penthouse, the city lay spread out beneath him like a kingdom. His friends, Zarif and Mayra, were playing games on the sofa. But Aaryan's mind was elsewhere. The door opened.

In walked Raisa.

A loose white sweater. Messy hair. No makeup. Her eyes held no questions, only a gentle understanding. She sat beside Aaryan and placed her hand on his cheek. "How are you?"

In that instant, a mountain seemed to lift from Aaryan's shoulders. "Better now," he murmured. Whenever tenderness returned to his voice, you could tell—inside this hard shield, someone else still lived.

After his friends left, Raisa rested her head on his chest. "Your body is trembling. Why do you plan so much?"

"It's not tension, Raisa. It's strategy."

Raisa looked up at him. Deep in her eyes there was no fear, only the blind mountain of love. "I know you have secrets, Aaryan. But all I want to know is that you love me. That is enough."

Aaryan pulled her into a tight embrace. As if all storms stopped within that chest. Slowly the night passed. The clock struck three.

Then his phone rang. An unknown number.

A faint voice. Safa. She had told her father everything. And now her father was no longer silent. Her voice carried both water and fire.

Aaryan stood up. He went to the balcony, gripped the rain-soaked railing, and said, "Your father can't do anything, Safa. If he makes a single move, I'll leak everything. Not just your father—the whole Council. He'll either become a 'hero who exposed the truth' or a 'destroyed villain.' The choice is his."

The line went dead. Silent.

Aaryan looked down. The city wasn't sleeping. For some, nightmares were just beginning.

From behind came Raisa's sleepy, affectionate voice, "Aaryan? Where are you?"

He went back inside. Lying beside Raisa, he said, "I'm right here. I'm never leaving."

Raisa buried her face in his arm and fell asleep. 3:30 AM. Outside, the rain had stopped, then started again. By the window, a shadow stood. Just a shadow. Whose?

Aaryan's phone received an encrypted message. The sender: 'Priyanka Bhattacharya.'

Aaryan read the message and startled. It said—

"I know your real name isn't Aaryan. You are the son of that murderer who, fifteen years ago… right in front of the entire Teachers' Council…"

He couldn't read the rest. His hand trembled. For the first time.

The clock showed 3:31 AM. The warmth of Raisa's hand around his neck, even in sleep, was a lie. But inside Aaryan's chest, that fire returned—this time, a blue fire, mixed with fear and rage.

In some window across the city, Safa's eyes burned. At that same moment, an unknown finger pressed the 'record' button on a phone.

---

The clock struck 3:30 AM. Tomorrow would be another battle. But in Aaryan's dictionary, defeat didn't exist.
