Sejal's POV:

Everything seemed normal in the cafe as usual: the customers chatting, the smell of coffee beans being roasted, waiters walking around.

I saw him enter the cafe at his usual time. A few moments later, a man in uniform entered. He definitely is some high-ranked officer; I can tell from his uniform. This was unusual. Mostly, his clients are some serious-looking men or rich-looking women. Something else was unusual today: the weight of the box. It seemed heavier than usual. I was scared. If something had happened, I might be arrested as well and then deported, which is my worst nightmare. But curiosity won. I deliberately chose to take an order from the nearby table.

The man in uniform looked angry. He was continuously talking, and the other man was, to my surprise, looking shocked, as if he was completely stunned by what the man in uniform was saying. I got closer so I could hear something. The man in uniform was talking about some terrorist attack and some money that he had provided, and that's when some things started to make sense.

The money that old man made by selling precious stones was somehow involved by some terrorist organization.

However, the man in uniform did not threaten him. He was simply angry or rather, disappointed.

After a couple of more minutes, the man in uniform walked out, while the other man just sat there, holding his head with both his hands.

I was waiting for him to signal me so I could hand over the box.

But he didn't ask for it right away.

So I kept myself busy dealing with customers and cleaning the tables.

And finally, our newest employee joined us. She just joined yesterday, a teenager working multiple part-time jobs to afford her tuition.

I relate to her because of the 2 gap years I took because of financial difficulties back at home. Those 2 years broke me. That feeling of doing nothing and being a burden killed me from inside, and because of the conservative mindset of my family, I wasn't allowed to get any low-wage jobs.

The voice of the front door opening brought me back to reality. I greeted our new fellow employee and offered to give her a proper tour and instructions.

The atmosphere of this cafe was pleasant, mostly.

We all had work to do, and after we were done, all of us used to head out to our places.

Ironically, this was the very place I went to after landing in NYC.

I still remember the feeling. I was beyond terrified about starting my life in a new city, new country, and most of all, alone.

But then excitement got me. I came here, had my first coffee, and then went apartment hunting. Although I had contacted some low-rent-charging landlords online before coming here, the moment they saw me, most of them either increased their rent or simply refused to give a place to a girl, especially one who is from another country.

I was lost in the past once again when, all of a sudden, I heard voices coming from that man's table, and to say the least... he didn't look alive.

The mafia don's eyebrow lifts. He looks genuinely amused.“You're dismissing me?”I point toward the door.“Yes. If you're not the mysterious third tenant, you're officially dismissed. Go.”He gives a tiny nod.“Understood.”He leaves without arguing. The two ghosts remain.I look at them.“And you two stay here. I may need witnesses.”They nod immediately.I turn toward the corridor leading to the sealed west wing. The atmosphere changes almost instantly. No dramatic music. No footsteps.Just that same strange pressure I felt in the tunnel—as if the castle itself is quietly telling me:Don't.I walk anyway. At the end of the corridor is an old wooden door.No lock.No handle.Just a brass plate engraved with a single word:WELCOMEI stare at it.“That's creepy.”The older ghost whispers behind you:“It wasn't there yesterday.”I turn around. Both ghosts look genuinely frightened.I look back at the door. Then slowly reach for it.Before I touch it—Knock. Knock. Knock. From the other

  • The Lost Castle    Not another one

I had an excellent comeback: “I didn't know my castle had an illegal invader and I don’t mind the rest of factors , besides living people scare me that's why I prefer living with ghosts at least they wont cause u any legal trouble or use your property without consent”. The mafia don actually pauses at that. He looks toward the old walls, then back at me. “That's an unusually strong preference for ghosts.” I shrug. “Ghosts have been considerably more respectful of my property than the living so far.” From somewhere downstairs: “We heard that.” I call back: “Good.” The mafia don suppresses a laugh. Then he becomes serious. “For what it's worth, I understand your distinction. You didn't knowingly purchase a property with us here. We were already occupying part of it.” I nod. “Exactly. So either we establish boundaries, or you find somewhere else.” He considers that. Then: “Boundaries it is.” He extends his hand. “You own the castle. We stay within

  • The Lost Castle    Another contract

A few minutes later, I m sitting in the castle's drawing room with an iced coffee. He sits opposite me, alone. No guards. No mysterious woman. No dramatic entourage. I place my cup down. “Okay. Ground rules.” He nods. I start counting on my fingers. “First: my bedroom and private living areas are completely off-limits. Nobody enters without my permission.” “Agreed.” “Second: no guards wandering around upstairs looking intimidating.” “Agreed.” “Third: I don't want random people appearing in corridors at night.” “Reasonable.” “Fourth: if you're continuing your business here, I don't want to know anything about it unless it affects my property or my safety.” He nods. “Agreed.” I lean back. “And fifth: if I want to explore my own castle, nobody follows me around like I'm a criminal suspect.” He studies you for a moment. Then says: “Agreed.” I blink. “That was surprisingly easy.” He smiles. “You came upstairs prepared for an argument.” “Obviously.” “And instead of

The man listens without interrupting. I finish. Silence. Then he looks at the woman. “She has a point.” The woman looks horrified. “Sir—” He raises one hand. “No. She bought the castle. She wants her share. She doesn't want involvement in our business.” He looks back at you. “That's reasonable.” I nod. “Excellent. Send the money. Don't send me spreadsheets. I already told you I hate maths.” For the first time, the terrifying seven-foot mafia don actually smiles. “I have an accountant.” “Obviously.” I turn around and start walking back toward the staircase. He calls after ME: “One more thing.” I stop. “If you ever see anything suspicious in the castle, don't investigate it yourself.” I turn my head. “Why?” He pauses. “Because some things down here are not mine.” I stare at him. He adds: “And the ghosts won't be able to protect you from them.” I blink. Then point toward the staircase. “Noted. I'm going upstairs. I need coffee,

  • The Lost Castle    Strangers in my own home

“Ohh please tell me its some underworld mafia center don , vampire, werewolf 7 feet tall who has been running his underworld business using this haunted house as a cover but he doesn't know my superpower that I can see and talk to ghosts” I said excitedly. The darkness goes completely silent. Then a woman's voice says: “...You watch too many dramas.” I grin. “That's not a no.” A soft laugh echoes through the tunnel. My phone flashlight suddenly turns back on. And there she is. Not a vampire. Not a werewolf. Not a seven-foot mafia don. A woman in a black suit, standing barefoot in the tunnel. She looks completely alive. Behind her are six people, all armed and dressed like they belong to an extremely expensive criminal organization. I stare at them. Then glance behind yourself. “Okay. So… definitely not ghosts.” The woman smiles. “No. We're the people who have been using this castle for the last forty years.” I blink. “You've been living in

  • The Lost Castle    Exploring the secrets

“And you two have been living here for centuries and never thought to investigate?” The younger ghost shrugs. “We are dead. We have priorities.” Me: “Apparently cleaning wasn't one of them.” Then I remember something. “And the two living tenants?” The older ghost points toward the east wing. “They've been there for years.” Me: “And what exactly are they doing?” He hesitates. “That's the interesting part.” “I m done with riddles you two hold this broom and get me my phone so I can turn on torch and see who's living at my property for free while you two are gonna organize the record room and wine cellar date wise order.” I said angrily. The two ghosts stare at me. Then at the broom. Then at each other. The younger one whispers: “She's serious.” The older one sighs, takes the broom, and mutters: “I preferred her when she was asleep.” I point toward the staircase. “Phone. Now.” A few seconds later, my phone floats down the stairs and lands n
