Four- Finding Kiara

Nathan could never believe this was coming from his mother but she was standing in front of him.  Her expression was stoic, showing no regrets whatsoever after saying Jessica would replace Kiara as his Luna.

Anger surged within him as he raised his voice looking at her pointedly. " Kiara is the future Luna of this pack if I ever become an Alpha."

She snapped, her head turning faster than light to look at him. Disbelief on her face.

"You can't have a stunted hybrid as the Luminous stone pack, Luna. It's a shame people are already talking, Nathan."

"Let them talk, I couldn't care less, mother but you won't decide who gets to rule by my side."

"You don't love her as deeply as you think, and she is not your mate. Jessica told me what happened between you two, that's enough sign for you to know you belong to Jessica, not her."

"And Jessica, she is everything a Luna represents. She would allow your wolf to mate with its mate, she can shift whenever she wants to."

"Not that stunted girl, who hasn't given you any pup since your marriage with her."

Nathan knew his mother never approved of his relationship with Kiara, there was this slight dislike she always had for her but not to this extent she was displaying.

He loves Kiara he truly does and feels guilty for whatever happened between him and Jessica but he would never replace the woman who healed him, who made him feel loved after Jessica's left with Jessica who rejected him.

Kiara has earned every right to stay by his side and Jessica just wants something she abandoned.

He looked straight into his mother's eyes and tightened his expression.

"Jessica would leave the pack tomorrow and I would have a word with the Alpha considering what you just did."

"I am sure your father wouldn't mind." A smirk appeared on her lips, showing she was least bothered by his threats.

Not waiting one more minute with her, he trudged to the door and slammed it hard behind him.

Angered by how confusing his life has become and the fact Jessica's coming back into his life and bringing back those ill memories of their past together, was orchestrated by his mother.

Because she thinks Kiara is unfit to be by his side or be the pack's Luna. Kiara wasn't the woman the moon goddess chose for him to spend his whole life with but she was there when his fated mate broke him.

Hurried and angered he didn't focus much on where he was headed he just felt a pertinent need to vent out, just then he bumped right into something the object getting the impact of the hit more than him.

A frightened gasp reached his ears, then he realized that the object was an actual person, his hands reaching out for her before she fell to the floor, meeting face-to-face with him. His expression changed quickly.

"Jess," he muttered, letting go of his supportive hold on her waist. He averted his face from his view and resumed his walk, about to leave when her slender fingers wrapped around his wrist stopping him.

He ignored the sparks their touch created and watched as she walked to his front, her big green irises peering into his eyes.

"Nathan–" She started but he cut her off.

"I can't believe you could be this desperate or you would ever be this desperate to reclaim what you lost." Hurt grew in her eyes over his statement.

"You told my mother we kissed to prove what?" He gripped her arm tightly drawing her close to him, his eyes burning her through.

He could see through her pretence.

"Nathan, you are hurting me?" She managed.

"Hurt? You hurt me more than this." He bored his eyes into hers, recalling how many times he stared into her green orbs and got lost in them.

"Do everyone good and leave here, Jessica. I want you gone. I don't want you in my coronation ceremony."

Jessica gulped at how dead serious he was. He let go of her sore arm and walked away without a last glance.

He wants her gone?

Despite the clear love he still has for her.

She thought that would be enough but no, he has so much respect for Kiara.

He is doing all this for her, so she won't be hurt but she won't tolerate any further distance from Nate again.

She can't lose him again.

Kiara glanced at the files in front of her trying to compare when the door to the little office she was assigned to jolted open, she was startled but became relieved when she saw Linda, her colleague at the infirmary.

Linda smiled at her, her familiar dimple digging deep into her cheeks.

"It's just me, Kiara," she said, an apologetic look on her face for startling her.

Linda was one of her close friends, well her only friend and colleague. They were both nurses for infants with birth complications. Runts that needed extra care and medical examination.

Werewolves' births are not overly different from humans but complications due occur during pregnancy or childbirth risking both the mother and child's life, being a shifter makes it slightly difficult.

Linda's brown dark eyes ran over the files in her hands and stretched out the one she held to Kiara.

"Those are the wrong ones, here they are."

"Oh, thank you," Kiara muttered, collecting the files and observing them, her peripheral vision caught Linda relaxing on the edge of the desk making herself feel comfortable.

Kiara could sense a discussion coming up, Linda clearing up her throat proved her right.

"How's the incoming Alpha?" She asked of Nate.

Recollections of how strained their relationship has become bothered her, Nathan hardly spoke to her yesterday as well and every effort to go through him was futile.

She was starting to feel frustrated, but it might be the stress of being the new Alpha that was taking a similar toll on him.

"Kiara, down to earth." Linda snaps her fingers at her.

"You were lost there?" Linda said observing her, concern furrowed on her forehead.

"Is everything okay?"

"Sure, all is fine but the stress of the coronation and all has got to us lately," Kiara assured, trying to sound believable.

A dimpled smile appeared on Linda's face, "Can't believe you would become the Luna, how should I address you, Luna, queen of the Alpha king?"

Kiara felt her cheeks heating up in embarrassment, to be referred to as a Luna felt a bit too much.

"It feels overwhelming don't you think?" Kiara put out, it was visible how nervous she was at the idea of becoming Luna.

"Ah, no worries you would adjust with time. How are your lessons with Luna Avery  going?"Linda asked, standing upright to look at Kiara.

Lessons? Kiara thought, confused. Was she supposed to start on one?

How would Linda react to the fact she hasn't been called for any lessons by Nathan's mother? It would cast a bad image on their relationship.

Finding it hard to lie about the truth, especially to a close friend like Linda, she decided to go with the truth.

"The Luna –" The loud sound of her door creaking caught both their attention. They both craned their heads in the direction of the sound and were met with the view of a messenger.

With how she was dressed, Luna Avery's messenger.

She greeted Kiara, acknowledging her before she spoke out her reasons for coming.

"The Luna would like to see you."
