CHAPTER 81

Layla's POV

“What's the matter?” Clara asked as she probably noticed my shock.

I didn't reply her immediately. I knew I had to react quickly. Axel the rogue was seated right there in that room, disguised as an Alpha. I didn't know which pack he claimed to be representing, but he was there!

Without further delay, I slammed through the doors of the throne room and entered with my eyes fixed directly on the rogue Axel.

People gasped and eyes flashed towards my direction, angry eyes even, challenging who it was that had dared to interrupt a meeting of Alphas and Betas.

“Layla?” Beta Rowan's face cringed in a confused frown when he saw me. “What are you doing?”

“That fool…” I pointed towards Axel, who didn't seem surprised, even in the slightest, to see me. “That is the same rogue who kidnapped me! They called him Axel! He was the leader of the small band of rogues who kidnapped me!”

Silence reigned after my outburst, and people exchanged confused looks. Axel, who was initially

CHAPTER 97Derek's POVLayla was still sleeping when I sneaked out of the room, walking as quietly as possible. I knew Beta Rowan would be waiting for me outside with the essentials I needed. I had to get there in time. I made sure to close the door as quietly as I could, making sure to avoid any squeak or creak. I stopped and listened carefully. The shallow breathing that came from within told me that Layla was still asleep. Good.I dreaded saying goodbye. I just couldn't bear to look her in the eye and say goodbye when none of us knew when we would be seeing each other ever again. I had already promised her that I was going to be with her real soon, but I honestly didn't know if that would be the case.I mustn't let the guards patrolling the corridors see me. The only people who were aware of my departure so far were Layla, Beta Rowan and the Councilors, I wouldn't risk the chance of anyone else noticing.I stopped in the shadows when I heard the approaching footsteps of a guard. I

CHAPTER 96Derek's POVI took the time to unravel my whole plan before Beta Rowan and the rest of the Council. I hoped they understood me, but they were busy looking frightened as if I had just disclosed very shocking news.“Can I talk to you alone, My King?” Beta Derek asked. The other Councilors didn't move, didn't say anything, but all of them had their eyes intently fixed on me, waiting silently for my command. I nodded and they all filed out of the room, leaving me alone with Beta Rowan.“What is it, Beta? Spill it out.” I said once we were alone.“Derek..” He began once we were finally alone. I noticed he dropped the title, too, to address me as the man he grew up with. “I acknowledge you as my Alpha King. You know I'll go into the fire with you, but to be honest, what you ask is too much even for me.”“How so, Beta Rowan?” I asked calmly. “I only ask that you stand in my place for a couple of days until I return from my journey.”“The journey we still do not know when you'll r

  • The Luna Queen's Blood Oath   Chapter 95

CHAPTER 95Layla's POVOne of the guards immediately turned and inserted a key into the door. I watched him turn it, and they pushed the door open. Emma, who just moments ago was banging on the door from within and shouting desperately, suddenly stopped and stared at the open door as if she couldn't believe her eyes, and then she must have realized that she had to make a quick run for it.She bolted suddenly for the door, but the guards were faster. One of the guards immediately hit Emma straight in the chest with a taser, and I watched her crumple to the floor, thrashing violently as current after current of electricity surged through her.I carefully stepped into the room and nodded to the guard. He immediately removed his taser, and the door was locked once more behind me. I made my way to a nearby couch and carefully sat down. “Having a bad day?” I teased.Emma painfully sat up and then pushed herself into a chair.“What do you want from me?” She rasped. “What do you want?!”“Yo

CHAPTER 94Layla's POV“Where's she?” Came Derek's voice right behind me. “Why are you alone and just staring into the forest?”I was just trying to find out where the priestess Saraphina had just gone. One moment she was standing there right in front of me, and the next moment she had just vanished into thin air.“She's.. she's gone..” I said softly, almost to myself.“That's strange,” Derek remarked.“Not nearly as strange as all that's happened since I came to this pack,” I added under my breath.Derek's hands slowly wrapped around me from behind, and he slowly kissed my cheek. I sighed heavily as relief spread through me from his touch, but even his touch could do nothing against the shocking instructions I had just received.“What did she say?” Derek asked softly. “What did she tell you?”There it was. I knew he was going to ask the very question I dreaded. Now, trust me, I really hated how this worked, I really do, but at the same time, I knew I had to trust the moon goddess. I

CHAPTER 93Layla's POVYou know that feeling you get when you're dreaming and then you start realizing that it's just a dream, and then you wake up? That's exactly what I was feeling at the moment.. well, except this was a dream I wasn't waking up from. The moment he hood fell off, I realized I was no longer looking at the old woman who had entered the pack house moments earlier and led me out, I was looking at a very much younger lady with a face I recognized almost immediately. The moon goddess…“I should have known..” I muttered under my breath.“Hello, Layla.” She said calmly. “I'm glad we meet again.”“Yeah.. in the flesh,” I remarked. “Seems you're getting more desperate. What is it this time? Realized you needed to drop more puzzles and riddles before the week runs out?”Her lips creased into a tight smile.“You've got your mother's wits and your father's sharp tongue.”Those words immediately knocked the sarcasm out of me. She talked about my parents, my actual parents whom I'

  • The Luna Queen's Blood Oath   Chapter 92

CHAPTER 92Layla's POVDerek didn't even ask anything, but immediately pushed past the guard and out of the library. I guess he must have read the guard's mind. I didn't wait behind but quickly hurried after them, curious about what could make them so agitated.I wasn't as fast as the men, but I was fast enough to arrive in the grand hall just moments before they got there. My eyes immediately scanned the hall, looking for what it was that had made them leave in so much haste that was when my eyes landed on her.An old woman was standing right there at the entrance, an old man covered in worn clothes and with a scarf wrapped around her head, making her face barely visible. She had a staff in her hand, which she was leaning on, but I had a feeling she didn't rely on this staff for walking.“It can't be…” Derek gasped when he saw her, and his steps faltered.I noticed the way everyone was gaping at the woman, even the guards stationed at the door, the guards who always stood like stone
