Adeline’s pov

“ You know what, I’m out of here” I say turning away and quite enjoying the shocked look that passed both Mom’s and Cecilia’s face. If they want to be their own cute mother’s and daughter’s moment, who was I to stop them?

“ Adeline, calm down. There is no need to be worked up” Auntie Rosa says from behind me. I don’t look back but storm out of the mansion, my hands folded and my face pressed into a scowl.

You might think I’m overreacting. That it’s not that big of a deal. But it is, at least, it is to me. I walk past the gate slamming the green lock a bit too loudly.

This wasn’t the first time my mom took Cecilia’s side. It wasn’t the first that she compared me. It was already enough to be compared to her in school, I had to take it on my birthday too. At school everyone adored Cecilia, she was the perfect daughter, student and girl. It didn’t help that she was tall, had auburn highlighted hair. The kind that they try to sell on Tv commercials for those who want to try dye and her legs were long and glossy. Supermodel kind of legs. She was cute and everyone made sure I knew that.

I on the hand, I barely managed to score average height and that was with wedges. Then my brown hair is just there, I have even given up on it. Which brings me to my spotted legs ( Thanks chicken pox) and from scrapes and bruises as a child. I unfortunately didn’t Inherit Dad’s curved chin or Mom’s pointed nose or any of their features really. Which mom says it’s okay, and that it’s no biggie. I will still grow into it when I’m older.

The street are filled with people going about their business, they turn and smile at me with greetings. The pack’s people always look full of joy upon seeing me.

“ Happy birthday princess!” they greet chirpily. I grin and wave back, that’s not my name obviously but a term of endearment they use for me. ‘ Princess’ because I am the daughter of the Beta of the pack. The second in command of the pack dark herds. Also, my Dad is kind of big deal around here.

Years ago, before I was even born. There was a terrible war that was being waged years ago, the kind where people were killed and others taken into captivity. The war was between North American pack and east America, it was a bloody and dark times for werewolves and it looked like the opposing side has us beaten hands down. But my Dad stepped in saving the day. He assisted the king of alphas, the Alpha of shadows pack to defeat them and chase them from our land. This brought a great amount of glory to the pack.

My mom is also badass, though she annoys me. She has special powers that helps a lot during the war, one of them being the power of healing. That was even how she met my father, when he was badly injured and they fell in love at first sight.

I sighed deeply more in annoyance when I realized my wandering had led me straight to the pack’s house which was also the Alpha’s house. Which was also where the meeting was being held. The house was the largest mansion in the entire pack, it was also the oldest with streak paints of faded grey and lime. The house had inhabited many Alphas.

“ Are you going to stand there like an idiot? Or are you going to come in?” I heard a sarcastic voice behind me. Turning back, I wasn’t surprised to see Aaron because only a few people could talk to me like that and get away with it. Nation’s hero daughter remember.

“ Well..” I drawled out mischievously, folding my hands across my red shirt. “ The only idiot I see here is the one in front of me” I mock right back.

Aaron doesn’t reply me instead he shakes his head and brushes past me. He is way taller than me, then again most people in the pack are. He has his usual carefree blond hair tied in a knot, probably his mom’s orders.

“ Well?” he arches a brow at me and I realized I’ve been staring. Blushing, I rub my face to cover it up.

“ You said something?” I instead ask, acting like I have not being doing anything. He gazed at me intently with light blue eyes, the color of the sea we saw at the beach once.

“ I asked to know if you are coming in or not?” he said. I nod and walked in with him noting faintly, very absently that we were both wearing the same color of jeans. Coincidence, I think not. Fate? Definitely.

Aaron and I had always a weird relationship, we were supposed to be close. I mean he is the son of the Alpha and I’m the daughter of the beta. But Aaron is the kind of guy who keeps to himself and a couple of friends, the only thing I had. Seen him do with a smile is football. Later on I found out the reason he had been so insistent to talk to me that night, he was failing math’s and desperately needed a tutor. He needed a secret one that could make his work go higher and so he won’t be kicked off.

Guess who Cecilia suggested, that’s right, yours truly. I, the same person that never, has never yet gotten a b in Math either.
