Chapter 2: Moonlit Vows

The night of the ceremony arrived beneath a breathtaking full moon that illuminated the entire werewolf dynasty like silver fire. Hundreds of torches burned around the ancient ceremonial grounds while both humans and werewolves gathered together in uneasy silence.

It was the first union between the two races in centuries.

Some humans stared at the wolves with fear.

Some wolves stared at the humans with hatred.

But tonight, all of them had come to witness history.

Aurora stood inside a beautifully decorated chamber while some human women carefully prepared her for the ceremony. Her heart pounded wildly against her chest as they placed the final pieces of silver jewelry around her neck.

Her dress was unlike anything she had ever imagined.

The gown flowed down her body like moonlight itself, made from layers of soft white silk embroidered with delicate silver patterns that resembled crescent moons and ancient wolf symbols. The shoulders rested elegantly against her skin while the long sleeves shimmered whenever candlelight touched them. Tiny crystals were sewn into the fabric, making her appear as though stars themselves had wrapped around her body.

Her long dark hair fell freely down her back in soft waves, decorated with silver vines and white flowers.

When Aurora looked at herself in the mirror, she barely recognized the woman staring back at her.

Tonight, she would become Damien Blackwood's Luna.

A knock suddenly echoed through the room before the door slowly opened.

Damien entered.

The moment his golden eyes landed on Aurora, he became completely still.

For several seconds, he said nothing.

He simply stared at her as though the entire world had disappeared.

Damien wore traditional Alpha ceremonial clothing entirely in black, embroidered with dark silver markings representing the Blackwood bloodline. His powerful figure and cold beauty made him look almost unreal beneath the candlelight.

Aurora felt her cheeks warm beneath his intense gaze.

"You look at me as if you've never seen me before," she whispered nervously.

Damien slowly approached her.

"No," he murmured. "I'm looking at you like I don't deserve to."

Aurora's heart melted instantly.

He reached out carefully and placed his hand against her cheek.

"You are beautiful, Aurora."

The sincerity in his voice made her breath catch.

For a moment, the war, the fear, and the hatred between their worlds no longer mattered.

There was only him.

Only them.

Damien leaned forward and pressed a soft kiss against her forehead before offering her his hand.

"Come with me, my future Luna."

Aurora placed her hand in his without hesitation.

Outside, the ceremonial grounds fell silent the moment they appeared together.

The moonlight poured over them as they walked toward the center altar made from ancient white stone. The Alpha elders stood waiting while human leaders watched nervously from the opposite side.

Whispers spread across the crowd.

Some filled with admiration.

Others filled with disgust.

Aurora noticed the hateful stares from several werewolves standing near the back of the gathering, but Damien tightened his grip around her hand as if silently reassuring her that no harm would come to her while he stood beside her.

The head elder raised his staff toward the moon.

"Tonight," the elder announced loudly, "the union between human and werewolf shall begin a new era of peace."

The crowd remained divided in their reaction.

Some applauded softly.

Others remained silent.

Aurora looked toward Damien, but his expression remained calm and unreadable.

The ceremony continued as ancient vows were spoken beneath the full moon. Damien repeated every promise while staring directly into Aurora's eyes.

"I vow to protect you."

"I vow to honor you."

"I vow to stand beside you before both humans and wolves."

Each word wrapped around Aurora's heart like a beautiful dream.

Then came the sacred marking ritual.

The atmosphere immediately changed.

The wolves in the crowd became silent.

Even the air itself felt heavier.

Aurora's pulse quickened when the elder explained the ritual.

"Once marked," the elder said, "your souls shall forever belong to one another."

Aurora slowly turned toward Damien.

He stepped closer until his body towered protectively over hers.

His golden eyes darkened slightly as he lowered his head near her neck.

"You trust me?" he whispered softly.

Aurora nodded without hesitation.

"With my life."

For the first time that night, something strange flickered across Damien's face.

Guilt.

It disappeared so quickly Aurora almost imagined it.

Damien gently brushed her hair away from her neck before placing his hand against her waist possessively. The entire crowd watched in complete silence as his sharp canines slowly appeared.

Aurora closed her eyes.

Then she felt it.

The piercing pain of his bite against her neck.

She gasped softly as the mark burned into her skin like fire beneath moonlight. At the same moment, a strange warmth spread through her body, connecting her soul to his in a way words could never explain.

The wolves bowed their heads instantly.

"The Luna has been marked," the elder declared.

Cheers erupted across parts of the crowd while others watched with dark expressions.

Damien pulled Aurora against his chest immediately after marking her, holding her tightly while she trembled slightly from the overwhelming bond.

Aurora looked up at him with watery eyes filled with love.

And Damien smiled at her.

But hidden among the celebration, Aurora failed to notice something terrifying.

Several elders exchanged uneasy glances.

One of them quietly lowered his eyes in shame.

And standing far in the shadows beyond the torchlight, a mysterious man watched the ceremony with cold silver eyes filled not with celebration—

—but pity.

As though he already knew Aurora's love story would end in tragedy.

“And by the other end…”

At the far side of the sacred hall, hidden beneath the silver glow of the moonstones, another pair of eyes watched the ceremony in silence.

She stood tall among the werewolves, her beauty sharp and untouchable like winter frost. Long dark hair flowed down her back in soft waves, and her amber eyes burned with something far more dangerous than anger. She wore a deep crimson gown stitched with the symbol of the Blood Moon pack, marking her as one of the highest-ranking she-wolves in the kingdom.

Her name was Cassandra Nightvale.

The daughter of a powerful beta family. The Alpha’s closest companion. And the woman Damian truly wanted beside him.

Cassandra’s jaw tightened as she watched Aurora standing before the crowd like an honored bride. Disgust twisted inside her chest so fiercely that she could barely breathe.

A human.

A weak, fragile human was about to become Luna.

Her nails dug into her palms.

The thought alone made her sick.

Cassandra had spent years beside Damian. She fought beside him during battles, stood beside him during council meetings, and protected his secrets when nobody else could. Everyone in the pack believed she would one day become his mate.

Even she believed it.

But now…

Aurora had appeared out of nowhere and taken the place Cassandra thought belonged to her.

Jealousy crawled through her veins like poison.

Every time Damian looked toward Aurora, Cassandra felt rage boiling beneath her skin. The way the elders smiled at the human girl only made it worse. She could hear whispers around the hall already.

“The Moon Goddess must have chosen her.”

“She’s beautiful.”

“She will become a great Luna.”

Cassandra wanted to scream.

They knew nothing.

Aurora was nothing.

A human girl who didn’t understand werewolf laws, pack traditions, or the darkness hidden inside Damian himself.

Yet she was the one standing beside him tonight.

Cassandra slowly lifted her gaze toward Damian.

For a brief moment, his cold gray eyes met hers across the crowded hall.

And in that single glance, she understood everything.

Damian did not love Aurora.

This marriage was only an obligation.

A duty.

A sacrifice.

But the realization did not calm Cassandra’s anger.

It made it worse.

Because if Damian did not want Aurora… then why was he still going through with the ceremony?

Why was another woman touching what Cassandra already considered hers?

Her wolf growled violently inside her.

Mine.

The possessive thought echoed through her mind, dark and dangerous.

Cassandra forced herself to smile when Aurora turned toward the crowd, unaware of the hatred staring directly at her.

But behind that beautiful smile was a promise.

Aurora may wear the title of Luna…

…but Cassandra Nightvale would make sure she never truly felt like one.

Aurora’s heart pounded as she followed Damien through the dim corridor, her trembling fingers clutching the fabric of her dress Not a single word left his lips. Yet the tension between them was unbearable. Damien walked ahead of her with slow, dangerous confidence, his broad shoulders stiff beneath the black shirt stretched across his muscular frame. The silver moonlight slipping through the tall windows illuminated the sharp outline of his face, making him look less human and more like the deadly Alpha everyone feared. Aurora swallowed nervously. Why was he bringing her here? The moment they reached the large wooden doors at the end of the hallway, Damien pushed them open without hesitation. His room. The scent of cedarwood, leather, and something darkly masculine filled the air instantly. Aurora stepped inside carefully, h
