Chapter Twelve - The Dinner

Noah made sure that his arm was firmly around Lucy as they walked through the doors of the restaurant together. She had tried to wriggle away and offer her hand instead, but the look he had given her told her under no uncertain terms that this was a bad idea.

She sighed internally and followed his lead as they greeted his parents, before being directed to one of the private rooms and taking their allocated seats around the dining table.

Thankfully, Lucy’s parents hadn’t yet arrived and she breathed a silent sigh of relief. It wasn’t any less awkward though in her mind, having now seen vividly in the future her father in law turn against her so quickly.

“Lucy, darling, it’s such a pleasure to see you again. Each time I see you, you look more radiant than the last!” His mother Elora smiled warmly.

“Thank you Luna.” Lucy said politely, bobbing her head in acknowledgement as Elora frowned slightly and a flicker of concern crossed her eyes.
