Chapter 04. Perfect Acting

“You want revenge by using me?” Henry guessed. As a man, he certainly didn’t like being used by someone with a broken heart.

“No, I just want to...” Ruby looked at Henry as if she was going to cry again. “Can’t you help me?”

“What do I get if I help you?”

“I can make people who look down on you bow down to you. No one will dare insult you again!”

Ruby understood Henry’s position. The man had not earned a position of honor by his status. But if Henry married someone from an influential family like hers. Ruby was sure it would be to Henry’s advantage.

“But your father threw you out. How can you do that?”

Ruby bit her bottom lip and looked down. She had just realized that her father had kicked her out.

Henry sighed. “We’ll talk about it later. You go to sleep.”

Ruby didn’t sleep all night. She kept thinking about what Henry’s answer would be. And this morning she was ready for the worst.

“Today I’m going to your house,” Henry spoke in a calm tone.

“Huh! What!? Why?” Ruby’s eyes widened in shock. The spoon that was about to enter her mouth stopped in mid-air.

“Aren’t you the one who asked me to marry you? That means I have to ask your parents’ permission first, right? I can’t marry you without their permission.”

Ruby could say nothing. She was asking to be married, but had her best friend not thought this through?

“Isn’t it too soon? Haven’t you thought about what it would be like when you meet your partner?” Ruby struggled to swallow her saliva. She was afraid of being dumped again. Her own mate had already dumped her. Of course, she didn’t want to be dumped by her close friend.

“I didn’t think much of it,” Henry replied flatly.

“Get ready. We have to get there.” Henry stood up, “and it looks like you need a lot of makeups, your eyes are puffy like a frog.”

“What did you say, huh?” Ruby stood up, annoyed. "Hey, don't run away!"

"Take back what you said earlier!"

Henry smiled at Ruby's scolding. But his expression soon changed when Gilbert started interrogating him with the same questions over and over again.

“Are you sure?” His trusted beta asked.

“No need to ask again,” Henry replied confidently.

After thinking about it last night, he didn’t want to miss this opportunity. He couldn’t see Ruby with anyone else but him. And maybe this was God’s answer to the nights that plagued him.

“Tell my parents I’m marrying Ruby.”

Even though Ruby is his brother’s mate, Henry is not going to let this opportunity pass him by. He really has to take advantage of this situation.

After a few minutes, they finally left Henry’s house.

Alpha Ian’s residence was busy. Although he was still uncomfortable with the thought of his daughter being kicked out, he couldn’t shirk his duty as the bride’s father.

“You are so gorgeous, my daughter,” Alpha Ian praised his eldest daughter. He walked over and noticed that Rose’s face was similar to his wife’s.

“Thank you, dad.” Rose returned her father’s words with a sweet smile.

This was the day she had been looking forward to the most, with Ruby gone and all the attention on her.

“I didn’t expect you to get married. It seems like only a few days ago you were just a little girl.”

“When I get married, I want you to think of me as your daughter. Don’t treat me like a stranger.” Rose showed a sad face.

“Of course, dear. You are still my daughter...”

“Sorry to interrupt, Alpha.”

“Alpha Henry requests an audience.”

Alpha Ian hurried to the living room. After hearing that, Ruby was back with Henry.

“Good morning, Alpha Ian.” Henry bowed respectfully.

Ian glanced at his daughter, but Ruby chose not to look at her father.

“I apologize for coming on such short notice.” Henry said politely.

“And I have an important thing to tell you.” Henry made eye contact with Ruby. The girl nodded her head in agreement.

“I’m here to propose to Ruby."

“WHAT!?” Alpha Ian shouted in shock.

Not only is he an illegitimate child, but Henry is still related to Levin. Who knows what other problems his daughter will cause?

“I have to take responsibility for what happened.” Henry already knew what the problem was.

Henry took Ruby’s hand and smiled as if to say that everything would be all right.

“What do you mean?” Ian asked with a sharp look, ready to attack.

Ruby frowned. She had no idea what Henry was planning. And why hadn’t he said anything before?

“I was Ruby’s affair,” Henry confessed without hesitation. “We love each other, but it’s sad that we can’t have each other. Ruby didn’t want you to be burdened with that. That’s why she accepted Levin’s engagement, even though she didn’t love him.”

Things changed. Henry twisted the facts as well as Levin’s game.

“Don’t blame Ruby, sir. Blame me instead. We tried to break up the relationship, but in the end we couldn’t. I can’t be separated, even though I know I’m not Ruby’s mate.” Henry spoke as if the words were very real. Even Ruby did not blink at the perfect lie.

“It was my fault that Ruby was called a traitor.”

“And to preserve the good name of this wolf pack and Ruby’s reputation. That’s why I want to marry her.”

Henry knelt before Ian. “Please give me Ruby, sir.”

Ruby lowered her face. She was embarrassed and couldn’t believe that Henry’s acting could beat a movie actor.

“That’s a lie! Don’t believe him, Dad!”
