Nathan's POV

Regret clung to me like a shadow, heavy and suffocating. The room echoed with silence, a stark reminder of my foolish choice of letting Carina leave.

My wolf, Brain, usually a source of strength, whimpered within me. It was wounded, not physically, but in a way that ran deeper. Carina, our mate, was gone, and the bond between us ached with her absence. How could I have betrayed her trust? My duty as an Alpha was not just to the pack but to her, and I had failed miserably.

Was I becoming too soft? I am the most feared Alpha in the Werewolf kingdom. Why would I allow one single female encroach my heart an let me feel bad? That was totally fucked up!

Dexter revelled in her departure. His loyalty wavered between me and the power vacuum her exit created. His satisfaction at her absence grated against my inner turmoil, creating a dissonance that mirrored the chaos of our pack.
