Chapter 2

Today was the Mate ball and I really had a feeling that something was going to happen. My wolf Selena was finally back, after a whole month of being human she finally came back.

The family doctor said that the wolfsbane would fade in a few days but she was still in a state of shock so it would take time for her to come through all I had to do was not remember anything from the war which was hard but I'm happy she's back.

I decided to take a walk at the lake near the pack's clothing stores. The breeze caressed my skin and I could feel goosebumps on my skin. I took ofy clothes. A swim wouldn't hurt.

As I was swimming I felt some presence behind me, I turned around and saw very beautiful eyes. I tried to get close to the figure but I suddenly couldn't.

I was pulled out of the water by the guards as people suddenly formed a circle. And then it hit me, I was having a flashback but the flashback felt too real.

My mother quickly covered me by the warm blankets as I was shivering and wearing the clothes that were now drenched. I held the blanket close to my body.

We went to our house as she sat me down the couch. She was pacing around the room, trying to control her anger which definitely was not working.

"How could you!! "She said in anger, her voice booming loudly in the room and that was really starting to piss me off.

"Don't raise your voice at me!" I said with My voice laced with authority. I was pretty sure that my eyes had changed or were at least starting too because I could feel my wolf coming through.

My mother immediately apologized and say down on the couch next to me."Look, all I'm saying is please don't scare me like that ever again,okay?" She said her eyes filled with worry. I understood her at this moment. And she hugged me tightly.

*One week later*

I was getting ready for the mate ball when my mother came through. "Ready?" She asked as she did a once over of the dress I was wearing.

"Almost," I said as I looked at her through the mirror and she smiled and came into the room.

"I know you don't want to go,but I think it's best if we welcome another member to the family." She said as she softly held my face with a sad smile.

"Okay," I said as I looked at her. I knew I wasn't ready to have a mate and I really don't think I will ever be in this lifetime to a point where even if I got one, I would just runaway. From being a mere warrior to suddenly becoming an Alpha Female. I had a lot of work to do. I had to appoint New warriors, get a Beta, a Gamma just to make the pack complete.

"Okay, I'll let you get completely ready then," She said as she got out of my room.I quickly finished up my makeup and went out my room to the gate where a lot of carts were waiting for us mateless women.

Today was going to determine my fate. This got me really really getting nervous. We entered the cartes and went to the mate ball which is was being held at the Lycan Kingdom for the first time in centuries.

I had a lot of rumours about the Lycan king. He had to take over the Kingdom at a very age of fifteen after his glfatger was brutally murdered.

Some people said that he was ruthless and cold while others said the opposite.But oh yeah, his kills were definitely of a man without an inch of soil left in him. But rumours are just rumours, right?

After the two hour ride we finally reached out destination and to say the castle was spectacular was an understatement. A lot of women from my pack definitely would be happy to mates with the King,why? For his title of course.

I nervously calmed myself down and luckily my friend, Malia came with. But she was excited than I ever was. She isn't a warrior, but is the Beta's daughter. She isn't any warrior because her mother didn't want that ,just like the many girls in our pack. I was the only female warrior in that pack.

We saw a guard at the entrance and said our names to the courier who mentioned our names when we walked down the stairs. This moment truly made one feel special, being admired.

I walked down the stairs trying my hardest to master some confidence with my dark red satin dress almost blending with the decorations.

I looked around and saw a lot of Alpha males that I met when they came to our pack for meetings. I was standing all by myself taking sips from my cup when Alpha Dylan of MoonGlow approached me.

"It's really sad to see such a young beautiful woman like you all by yourself tonight," He said as I turned around and sized him up. Blonde,blue eyes, pink plumb lips, he definitely was handsome.

"Oh, no I just want to sit alone as you can see, definitely not in the mood to mingle. But it's a pleasure to meet you alpha Dylan," I greeted.

"Same, Alpha Avery," I looked at him in appreciation, he was the first alpha to acknowledge me as part of him:An alpha.

He was known to be a womanizer and definitely was flawless when it came to his leading skills of course. He was the third ranked Alpha around the world.

"So here to make me fall for your charms," I said with a smirk as he looked at me with surprise.

"Oh, so you also believe the rumours," He said with a small chuckle. "But once you get to know me, I promise that I'm far way more different from what they say I am," He said with a smirk but sadness evident in his voice.

"Okay,I really h..." I was cut off by the courier who announced that the royal family was on its way.

"Well, this was fun, I really got to go," He said as he gently kissed my hand and left.

I looked around to findy dear friend mingling with Alpha Richard of Moonlight pack. She genuinely looked happy.

All of a sudden my body felt uneasy as if something was wrong.My senses heightened and that's when the scent hit me: Wood and Rosemary.

My heart was racing really fast, I tried to talk to my wolf but all I could hear was silence but I knew that she was happy.

I turned around as the doors opened and there he stood. His Brown hair gelled back, his dark green eyes roaming around the room and his stern face along with his red suit seeming all handsome to me.

We all bowed down as they entered the room and that's when I hid my gaze. I did not want to look at him, n,ot now not ever. All the mateless females in the ballroom all came forward as he took a look at each of us.

'Mate!Mate!' My wolf shouted in my mind, no ,no no, I really wish I could get her to shut up right now.

And that's when I saw his black leather shoes stand in front of me. I looked down trying to avoid his eyes. He held my face with his fingers sparks welcoming themselves on my face.

"Look at me," He commanded as he still held my face with his hold getting a little tightly. He commanded one last time, this time using authority "I hate repeating myself,now LOOk AT ME!!" I hurriedly looked at him and that I held my breath.

He hurriedly took my hand, sparks flying through my body and led me outside the balcony. Now was my opportunity to atleast tell him.

The doors closed behind us as he let go of my hand and looked at me. "It's really you!" He said his voice getting a little softer.

"My name is Maxton Leone Kingston, but as my mate, you can call me Max," He said as she looked at me as if he wanted me to do the same.

"Oh,I.. (deep breath) I am Avery Ashton your highness and I am from the Silvermist pack." I said as I bowed down.

"Avery, I like that, normally I think I would definitely tell you to pack your bags and come live with me but now I'm in some different mood, when would you like to come stay with me?" He asked me as he held both my hands and the way he said my name made the butterflies in my stomach dance.

"About that...," I took a very deep breath and continued " I am very much aware that you know about the tragedy that struck my pack. I've been recently made Alpha and still have a lot to do to recover everything we've lost...what I mean is, I need some time..at least four years and then I'll come willingly." I said looking at him with pleading eyes.

"Okay, but two years," He said as he kissed my forehead a little longer and the butterflies in my stomach just escalated. "It was really a pleasure meeting you Avery Ashton, You may now go," he said as he now looked at me.

I quickly bowed down and knocked when the guards opened the door for me. I entered the room as the King followed shortly after.

Malia approached me her hand holding a beta of the Reef pack. This place was filled with both Lycans and werewolves.

"There you are, I want you to meet Beta Thomas Reed of the Reef pack and my mate," She said with a smile as he quickly greeted me and placed his head in her neck.

"Congrats, I'm very happy for you, really" I said as she quickly thanked me and went about to her business.

I was suddenly midnight and time to go home. I could feel his scent all over me, today I was definitely going to have a really good night sleep.

As I finally reached to the pack, my mother stood there with a smile but the smile quickly faced away when she saw that I brought no one home with me.

"Where is he?" She asked as she looked around.

"He didn't come," I lied, if I told her I found him but rejected him, she would immediately order the chauffeur to send me back.

"Oh, sweetie, maybe next time." She said as he hugged me, luckily I quickly got rid of the scent so she doesn't know.

"Yeah, maybe next time" I said as I looked at the bright lot moon.
