Chapter 3

~Two years later~

I was working on my paperwork when Jules my beta came inside my office. The office was definitely now like my home since I usually came here whenever I wanted to keep my mind out of things.

"Didn't your mother ever reach you to knock before coming in?" I playfully rolled my eyes.

"Of course she did, and she wouldn't complain whenever I entered her room because she knew that I was a mom's boy and besides you wouldn't let me in even if I knocked, I learnt that the hard way last time." He said as he sat on my couch

"You know, he's waiting for you outside right now," Jules said as he pointed outside the door. I took Jules in since he was a rogue. His pack threw him out when his Luna accused him on forcefully sleeping with her and the pack believed her, but we both knew that it.was a lie. I was lucky to have taken him in amdade him the beta since he had experience after he was stripped out of his title.

He helped me a lot and made things a lot more easier honestly speaking because with the last two years I became the first female to hold a second position in the world and is thanks to him.

"Let him in," I told Jules as he went to fetch Alpha Dylan. The Alpha finally came inside my office and just plumbed himself on my couch like it was his home.

"Alpha Dylan, what brings you to my pack?" I asked him as I stopped what I was doing and looked at him.

"Oh, Come on, can't I miss my best friend?" He asked all innocently like he didn't just see me last week.

I rolled my eyes "It hasn't been two weeks since you last saw me,I mean you saw me just last week, Dylan, Last Week!!"

"I know, but who wouldn't miss this cute pookie pookie face," He got up and held my cheeks like I was a baby.

"Fine,.you missed me, I get it," I said with a bored expression ony face.

"Anyways, Are you ready for the meeting with the other Alphas next week?" He asked as he played with my purple pen.

"Oh,yeah...yeah I am ready,of course." I said as he looked at me suspiciously and laughed very hard at me.

"Please don't tell me you forgot about that meeting beside maybe it can help boost you since the King will be there.".He said as if making some suggestion which definitely was useful.

"I don't know, maybe," I shrugged even as the second best female it was still hard getting some Alphas to listen to me,.they were very hard headed. Dylan and I became very close friends more like best friends after he helped tutor me some of the things I had to know about leading a pack plus the ernamous of paperwork I had to deal with. Even now, he would still help me whenever he wasn't busy.

"Maybe, Don't double yourself,Ave..Iean look at how far you've come, you even passed me in ranks just within two years. You truly are special Avery, never doubt that.

He was right, I have come far with everything. Maybe it wouldn't be as bad as I thought it was.I smiled to him and nodded.

"That's my girl, maybe he could also help you with some equipment for this war you want to finish

" He said with a smile at least he now supported me. When I told him about my plan to avenge my father's death, he didn't understand at first and thought it was very dangerous for me but now I was matured and knew better than going unprepared. Those stupid Lycans should have thought about this when killing my father like he was some piece of paper.

"Well,. I've got to go,.I have some pack matters that need to be taken care of," He said,.as of sensing he was finally leaving,Jules finally came through my door.

"Ahh, Finally he leaves," He said to Dylan who playfully numbed into Jules shoulder. "Right, I'm still her favourite,you need to get that into your head." Dylan said as Jules rolled his eyes and stick out his tongue"Oh whatever you can dream all you want,Dylan, it's noe secret that I'm her favourite," I rolled my eyes ,.I couldn't believe these two sometimes.

It was head to believe that a beta and an Alpha were this playful, I'm pretty sure people would faint but here I was bearing it all.

"You two stop it!!" I shouted at them, but it was really cute to see how much they cared about me.

Dylan quickly got out and Jules silently turned to me. After Dylan was gone that's when he finally spoke. "So, the King will be there, which King? the Lycan King or some other King?" He asked definitely curious. Jules knew who my mate was, I told him that one night when I had this very painful intense heat.

If I had known the package that came with being a lycan's mate, trust me, I would have definitely agreed to let him take me there and then because one thing I knew for sure, I wouldn't want to experience the heats that I go through or even the so called curse this mate thing has like when he sleeps with the countless women, I get the pains just only where he touches them and some other things I would like to tell you but that's for another day. I had to get some witch doctor to make a potion for me which she warned that it's effects would stop and this heat would eventually kill me.

"Lycan King," I answered as I busied myself with the paperwork. "Oh, so are you going to go to him, because you have to Avery or else..." He said as he bit his nails.

"I know what will happen and I will go to him when the right time comes," I said and that when Jules got angry.

"Right time, When is this right time for you Avery,huh,.when? What do you think I'll tell him when this heat finishes you off?" He said anger evident in his voice.

I really don't get why he is worried about that only I should be worried about that not him.

"Look, I get all of that, but right now just help me prepare for the meeting next week okay," I said gently. Now ,he was like my mother who was worried that I was not getting a mate. It was more of an embarrassment for her since all her friend's children had mates and I -her only grown daughter haven't found hers.

"Okay, Alpha," He said and we continued with work for the past hour. This peace was much more better than discussing about mates.

I was seated inside the cart with my beta at my side. Like he could sense my nervousness,he held my hand. Today was finally the day, I really couldn't wait to prove those Alphas wrongy ideas would be heard today, I would make sure of that.

After an hour inside this cart we finally arrived, this meeting was being held at alpha Herold's pack and this Alpha was the most discriminating of all..Even thought he worked very well with my father, he didn't work well with the father's daughter.

The first time I had an idea, I went to him since he was an alliance withy father, I went to him and that was the biggest mistake of my life. Some of his men had died at the war and ever since then he held grudge towards my late father who was forever gone.

We entered the pack house and were greeted with drinks served by his servants. I gave Jules my drink which he happily took. I couldn't trust any Alpha yet.

My wolf was very silent throughout the whole ride but I could feel her. We were led by the guards to inside a big room.

We saw the other Alphas and greeted them while Jules also greeted them. I hugged Dylan when I saw him and he was happy to see me which made me at ease.

As we were all seated in our designated places while the beta's were seated in the other room. We only needed the beta's only for incase something went wrong otherwise it was just us Alphas.

While the Alphas were talking amongst one another, I felt my wolf wiggle her tali as the scent finally hit me. He was here.

'Mate,Mate, he is here.' She said iny mind as I tried to block her thoughts away. I silently prayed that this wasn't going to very bad.

He came in, the aura inside the room suddenly changed, his definitely shining more than ours. We all quickly stood up and bowed to him as he took his seat at the end of course.

"It is wonderful to have to see you all this morning, Alpha Herold, thank you for allowing me to let this take place here, I truly appreciate it. So I'll get straight to the matter..." The rest of his words died down as my eyes just travelled to his face.

I imagined myself pulling that Brown sexy hair of his, his lips on mine and his veiny tanned hands all over my body.

"Alpha Avery... Alpha Avery!" His voice loud voice snapped me out ofy thoughts as I looked at everyone around me.

"I...uh,what was...." Then Alpha Herold cut me off with stating whatever his opinion on what the question was.

"I truly think we should have more Lycans to help patrol in each and every pack at least for the three days to come, Your highness and....," Alpha Herold said with pride but Max stopped him right then and there.

"It was nice of you to state your opinion, Alpha Herold,thank you but I believe I asked Alpha Avery for her opinion not yours." He said that and the whole quiet looked at the King with their eyes wide open.

"I uhmm." I cleared my throat and nervously gulped. I could do this, I feared no one.

"May you please repeat your question,Your highness," I said to him as he intensely looked at me.

"Well,Next time, please pay attention." He said very sternly but I could hear the playfulness in his voice. He knew what he was doing to me.

"I asked what your opinion would be about the rogues that keep on trespassing in packs, how could we stop this?" He said and his look said it all.

"I think uhmm like Alpha Herold stated we could have some of your guards help patrol the areas where the attacks are occurring and maybe they could report to you if anything unusual happens"I said as he thought my words through.

"Does anyone else have anything to say?" IThe King said as no one raised their hands.

"Okay, it is settled then, I'do as Alpha Avery suggested and then we'll see how this goes," He said as the meeting finally ended.

From the corner of my eyes I could see a very angry Herold. In my heart I silently thanked him for doing that.. He just humiliated Alpha Herold in front of the other Alphas.

As the King stood up and left ,we finally stood up and were out the door where we met our Betas.

"So,how did it go?" Jules asked with a worried expression but when he saw a smile on my face that's when he knew that everything went well.

"Tell me about it,Alpha," He said as he lazily put his hand ony shoulder. As I was about to tell him , the guard interrupted us.

"I am sorry Alpha, but the King was asking for your presence," The guard said as I looked at Jules who just nodded that I should follow the guard.

I followed the guard as he led me to a room, "Look, I think I'll go on my own,thank you," The guard nodded and I quickly got to the door and knocked.

"Intrati,"he said in an unfamiliar language.I knocked again and he said 'Come in' annoyance visible in his voice this time.

I closed the door "You asked for me,Your highness," I said nervously and in a snap of my fingers my back was touching the wall. His lips came crashing into mine.
