MasukSage’s POV
“Fifty per night,” The half dressed lady with thick red lips said to a man inside his car.
I walked past the lady and others dressed alike, as well as the bargaining men trying to bag a girl to please them for the night.
Despite the noise that came from the bar, I was still drowning in my misery, with Cyrus words replaying in my head.
“You exist to heal me. Nothing more.”
My wolf whimpered in pain.
Desperate to get this dread feeling out of my head, I stepped into the bar, the heavy music almost deafened me. It felt like I had walked into a different world entirely.
I made my way through the sea of bodies swaying under the red light, making my way to the counter.
I had never been here before. I wasn’t even sure what to order, so when the bartender walked up with a towel thrown over his shoulder and asked what I wanted, I just stared at the bottles behind him, looking for the one that caught my eyes. He was patient, though, smiling as if he could see how lost I was.
“First time?” the bartender asked gently.
I nodded. Lying felt pointless. “Yeah. First time.”
He studied me for a second, asking a few other questions about my preference before going ahead to pour me a drink the color of burnt honey and sliding it across the counter.
I stared at it, fingers curling around the glass. I hesitated only for a second before lifting it to my lips.
The burn hit immediately.
I didn’t stop even when my head began to feel heavy. At some point I totally lost track with what was happening around me. All I knew was that the next moment, the bartender was waking me, a tired expression in his eyes.
“Hey… sweetheart. You gotta wake up.”
I groaned softly, blinking until the bartender came into focus. He didn’t look angry. Just tired. Like he’d seen this scene too many times.
“Bar’s closing. You can’t sleep here.”
“I—sorry,” I muttered, pushing myself upright. The room tilted violently. I gripped the counter until it steadied. “I don’t usually… I’ve never…”
“It’s okay,” he cut in gently. “Just get home safe.”
Home.
The word hollowed me out.
I nodded and stumbled toward the door.
The cold night air kissed my skin as soon as I stepped out. The street was mostly empty. It must be really late cause all the ladies that stood in front of the bar had suddenly vanished.
My steps were uneven, my head pounding with every movement.
I didn’t notice the footsteps following me at first. Or maybe my instincts did, but the alcohol dulled them.
“Hey… pretty girl.”
My stomach clenched.
“Where you headed in such a hurry?”
I kept walking.
“Come on,” he murmured, reaching out. “I’ll take real good care of you.”
I flinched as his fingers brushed my wrist. A sickening chill spread through me.
“Let me go,” I screamed.
He smirked and with a quick snap, he pinned me against the wall.
I struggled, heart pounding so hard. My wolf whimpered inside me—weak, caged, useless. I’d never been allowed to train. Never allowed to fight. And now I hated Cyrus more for that.
“What do you want?” I cried. “Money? I’ll give you anything.”
He didn’t listen. Instead he began to kiss my neck violently. The feeling of his lips on my skin made me puke on him.
His eyes darkened as he looked down at himself. “How dare you?” The sound was followed by a resounding slap.
He pressed me harder against the wall, already unbuckling his pants. I struggled, but my strength couldn’t save me.
“Let her go!” I heard suddenly, firm. The tone didn’t sound like a request.
I tried to make sense of the figure in the dark night. His height and huge stature were the only things I could take note of, considering the darkness. He was nothing less than six foot five.
His hands were tucked carelessly in his pants, yet he managed to exude such heavy aura without putting in effort. It was unlike anything I had felt before.
My attacker turned defiantly. “Who the hell do you think you are to tell me what to…”
Before he could complete the statement, he was struggling for air. The six foot man didn’t even move a finger, he just kept staring intensely at my attacker as he struggled like an invisible force around his neck.
My Fear heightened, combined with curiosity.
Who is this man?
The previous attacker couldn’t hold it back any longer, he cried for help. “Please sir… Please don’t kill me!”
My eyes moved from my attacker to my defender times and times again, confused on what to do.
My attacker was gasping so hard that I became scared. “Please let him go.” I pleaded.
The six foot man didn’t flinch, he just stared at my attacker for a little longer. The next moment, I noticed my attacker fell to the ground in relief.
Suddenly, the six foot man was no where to be found.
Was this some drunk dream or what? I thought to myself. Pinching myself a little to be sure I wasn’t dreaming.
Remembering that I was in the middle of the empty streets, I picked up my pace again. Walking faster this time.
An engine rolled up behind me.
I kept walking. Not until I felt that same Aura.
It was him.
“Get in!” He ordered.
Cyrus's POV My hands tightened around the phone. If I could reach in and tear Dominic's heart out of his chest then I would. It was maddenig - watching him act like she was his. She wasn't! She was mine! Only mine. This was all I needed to know that I had to act faster. If I kept being patient, he would win her over. I hadn't ignored the slight tilt of her lips as she smiled when he said it. It wasn't easily noticeable but I noticed it. After all, I had known her for years. She was my mate. Nothing of that second chance bullshit that Dominic had spewed. I would make sure she was mine again, even if I had to destroy his kingdom to do so. Only then would he know not to play games with me. There could be no more delay, I turned to Leon, “Make sure our men keep their eyes here and make him break. Let's head back to the kingdom before our time expires. We don't have a complete map yet” Leon nodded and began to do as I asked while I walked back to the car. My hands itched to do somethi
Dominic's POV A part of me had known that calling Gloria for a private meeting wouldn't be ideal but it didn't matter. I had a few things on my mind and her presence wasn't helping matters. I needed to get her out of my kingdom. Cyrus was still holed up where he had kept himself. My men had been watching to make sure he didn't make any moves but nothing had come back to me. He was being careful - too careful. It was suspicious. I picked my files, “Keep eyes on him no matter what. I don't care if nothing ever happens but he can't catch us unprepared" I told Keisha.“Yes Alpha" he said, going off to another side of the palace while I headed to the room where I had asked Gloria to wait for me. It wasn't supposed to be hidden but I didn't want anyone seeing both of us together, especially my family. When I got to the quarters, I opened the door and walked in, making sure the door was locked behind me. She was seated at the table with a few papers open in front of her. When she heard t
Dominic's POV I could clearly see she was nervous, her eyes darting around the restaurant. It hadn't gone past my notice, the people who had been staring at us. Of course the news would spread throughout the kingdom in very little time. We were alone again, her eyes on me, watching carefully. I wanted to ask her to talk to me but didn't say anything. Instead, I cleared my throat, and spoke, “Tell me something about you, something I may not know" She raised a brow at the question, whether it was wonder or something else, I didn't know for sure. "Well, I would have preferred to ask you that question. You're the one with so much more that I don't know” she gestured around. She knew she was right but I didn't answer her immediately. Instead I smiled, "I invited you here to talk to you, get to know you. There's not much to me anyway. It would be too boring”She shook her head stubbornly, "I'm sure there's so much I don't know. You've ruled a whole kingdom for years. There's definitely
Sage's POV Now I had no doubt that he thought I was some sort of fool after all. That his words would just trump hers when he hadn't told me even half of the truth. At that moment I wanted to tell him of the war he supposedly fought for her but decided not to. The indecision was clear in his face. He didn't know for sure what to do next. If he was going to give a few more stories or the truth. He cleared his truth as he chose, “Anyway she'll be gone soon and out of the way. You won't have to listen to any of her stories" I nodded, there was nothing else to say. He had chosen to keep me in the dark and something told me he wouldn't change that. At that moment, the decision was clear. This couldn't work out - wouldn't work out. Not with the way we held secrets from each other. Not with his kingdom wanting another woman as his queen. He was better than Cyrus but it was either trouble or trouble. I would need to rescue my mother from Cyrus first. He turned around and continued to wal
Dominic's POV I was in the middle of sorting a document out when a knock came on the door. I sighed, hoping it wasn't her, “Come in" I said, watching the door for who would come in. Surprisingly, Keisha came in. He looked like he had raced to get here, sweating and panting when he walked in. He closed the door behind him. “I'm sorry My king, I tried to reach you through the link but you weren't available" I shook my head as I came back to the present. I had been lost in my thoughts and unknowingly scrambled that. “It's fine, did anything happen?" I asked him. He nodded, “Yes my king. The men we asked to watch Cyrus said he just left the territory. He didn't go with his men so it wasn't a permanent exit. They just saw him leave with his beta in a hurry" he informed me. I sat up straight at that, raising a brow at the news. “That is different then. Did they follow him to wherever he went?" I asked him. Something told me that this place was important, maybe he was hiding something t
Cyrus's POV My hands held her throat tightly, squeezing the air from it as strongly as I could. “How dare you" I muttered, anger pulsed through me like it was my blood. I could almost taste it whenever I swallowed. Her eyes were wide with fear as she stared back at me. She opened her mouth to beg but all that came out were fast breaths as she tried to talk. “Pl…" she began but couldn't try anymore, not with my hands crushing her windpipe. “Alpha, she's going to die" Lyon told me a fact I already knew. He shut up when he saw the look I gave him, moving back in fear. I looked back at her, enjoying the feeling as I slowly snuffed the life out of her. Just before she was gone past the place I couldn't control, I let her go. She fell to the ground, gasping as she tried her hardest to breathe. Her hands clawed at her throat, breath fast and steady as she tried her hardest to catch herself. I looked down at the pathetic sight with some pleasure. Before she could move or do anything, I
