Sebastian
I watch with a heavy heart as Charlotte climbs out the window and disappears. I couldn’t go after her… I mean, I guess I could have. But… it’s not the right move for me.
By the end of three days, I’m sure Charlotte will be back here. She doesn’t remember much of our childhood, but I remember everything. As the Beta’s son, I learned all about the pack and specifically about rogues. Rogues are horrible and only the worst end up rogue.
Rogues… those disgusting, vile wolves that were part of the cause that made us lose everything. The last thing I want is to end up like them.
I huff as I leave her room and go to the kitchen to find something for an early breakfast. Once I eat I could go for a run while I wait for the training session to start. I don’t know what else I could do with my time.
Training is tricky for me, I’m naturally talented and one of the best warriors that the Lightning Pack has, but I don’t want them to know who I am.
Our parents were careful so that no one would ever find out who Charlotte and I were so I try hard to maintain their standards. No one will ever know that I was supposed to be the Southern River Pack’s Beta. Honestly, I don’t think Charlotte remembers who she is. Her dad was careful to keep her hidden and she has never shown any recollection of our life at Southern River.
The only thing I find interesting is the fact she seems so drawn to that pack. Even though it is in complete disarray it’s like something is calling her there.
I walk through the hallway when suddenly I hear low growling. My body stiffens and my eyebrows furrow as I wonder where it could’ve come from. Suddenly, I’m pressed against the wall and one of the Alpha’s sons were in my face as he demands in a deadly voice, “Who were you with?”
His other brother stands behind him with his arms crossed and glaring daggers at me. I don’t understand what’s happening and the other brother says, “You have my mate’s scent. Who have you been with?”
The brother that’s pinning me against the wall snaps, “It’s my mate’s scent!”
Luna Anna appears from nowhere and says in a calm voice, “Boys, you must have the same mate and this young man has been around her. Instead of scaring him to death, how about you let him down and ask him nicely?”
Charlotte doesn’t have just one mate… she has two! And they just happen to be the Alpha twins?!
I can’t believe this. How will she feel about all of this? I can’t believe she left today… this would’ve been the best day of her life, discovering her mates.
Both of the men grumble and their mother tsks as she scolds them under her breath, “It’s like you have no manners.”
I notice the man who let go of me doesn’t have a tattoo creeping up his neck and I know that it’s Cassian. I’m surprised by his aggression towards me because he’s always seemed to be the calmer one out of the two brothers. He looks at me and breathes in deeply through his nose before he asks in an accusing tone, “Who have you been with?”
His eyes darken showing that his wolf is present and it causes my heart to stop. I’ve never ‘been with’ anyone. I’m still a virgin, unfortunately. I stutter out, “No-no one! I hugged my best friend this morning, but that’s it, I swear.”
His eyes narrow and Maddox clears his throat before asking, “So, I assume this best friend of yours is a girl?”
I nod my head yes and say, “It was her birthday today so I hugged her before getting on with my day.”
A flash of excitement runs through his eyes and the corner of his mouth twitches up and he says, “So, she’s 18, now? Where is she? What’s her name? Take me to her!”
Cassian corrects him, “Take us to her!”
I nod my head and say, “Her name is Charlotte. Just, um, follow me.”
My heart beats heavily and my breath is shallow as I bring them to Charlotte’s room. Some part of me is praying that somehow, someway she came back and she is here.
I cringe to myself as I knock on the door before slowly twisting the knob and revealing the empty room. Maddox and Cassian push past me into the room, their eyes are both dark showing their wolf’s presence because they can smell the scent of their mate, and then Maddox glares at me. He crosses the few steps over to me and yells in my face, “Is this some kind of joke?!”
“No, no, of course not! I would never play a joke on the future Alphas.”
He seethes, “Then where is she?”
Cassian looks over at me, his face isn’t as angry as Maddox’s and he says in a calm voice, “Do you know where Charlotte would be right now? You said the two of you are best friends, do you know her schedule?”
I nod my head slowly, but I notice that Maddox doesn’t seem to like how well I know her. I gulp before answering, “I mean, I don’t know her schedule by heart or anything, but I know the gist of it. But, unfortunately, she isn’t here today. She wanted to go out for her birthday so she left this morning.”
Maddox’s eyebrows furrow and he asks, “Why would she do that? She’ll be shifting for the first time soon. It helps to have the morale of the pack around you… why would she leave?”
Shit, I didn’t even think of that. She’s going to have to go through shifting without me, I should’ve gone with her.
Cassian takes a few steps over to me and he asks, “Do you know where she went? We need to find her, her life could be at stake.”
There’s a lump in my throat as I think of all the horrible things that could happen to her as she’s alone and unprotected. Finally, I choke out, “She went to the Southern River Pack.”
Both of the men seem taken aback and Cassian asks, “Why would she go there?”
I don’t get a chance to answer as I hear Luna Anna say, “She’s one of the people we rescued from there. She’s probably just homesick and seeking it’s comfort. It’s sad, I’m sure the two of you going and finding her will help cheer her up.”
Maddox and Cassian both smile and nod at each other, silently agreeing that they will go after her.
They all leave the room, leaving me by myself. I look around and breathe out, I hope she’ll be okay.
CharlotteMy entire day something just seems off. I don’t know how to explain it and I can’t exactly put my finger on it, but something about today is different.I feel like I’m going insane. I think that I died and have been rebirthed, but I’m doubting myself. Something about it… I don’t know. It just doesn’t sound like it could even be possible. All of my actions are normal, I do my chores, go to training, eat lunch, there’s nothing eventful going on. But… still.I’m so caught up in my thoughts that I don’t notice something sitting in the floor and I trip over it. Right before I hit the ground, a body comes in front of me and catches me. My eyes widen as I fall into the lap of Maddox Stark. The corner of his mouth twitches up into a smile as he asks, “Are you okay?”I slowly nod my head, staring into his eyes and suddenly, it all comes back. This isn’t my second chance at life… it’s my third. How is this possible?I push myself out of his arms as I remember the true monster that thi
CharlotteSebastian looks me up and down and his eyes shine with concern and he asks, “Are you okay, Char?”I can’t move my eyes from him, it’s like I’m seeing a ghost. The longer I don’t answer him the more concerned he looks and he asks, “Charlotte, what’s going on?”I shake my head slowly as I snap out of my thoughts and say, “No-nothing. I’m sorry, Seb, I just had a nightmare.”He nods his head, but looks at me skeptically and says, “Yeah, okay. How are you feeling? Your birthday is only two days away. How do you want to celebrate?”My birthday… my birthday is in two days.Something isn’t right. This isn’t how it’s supposed to be, but I don’t know how things should be. I had another life, I know I did. But it seems fuzzy and far away. But in my other life, I was already 18, I already found my mate… or well mates, I was mated to Alpha Cassian and Alpha Maddox Stark, the infamous Stark twins. We had been together for a couple of years, life was mostly miserable, they were the cause
CharlotteI want to scream, but I can’t. I want to call out through the mind link for Maddox to come save me, but it’s like I’m blocked from speaking to him.Raven pushes her arm in and grabs a fist full of my hair and yanks me out as she throws me to the ground. I cry out as she does this and then hear Cassian’s voice as he yells out, “What the hell is going on, Raven?”His footsteps hurry down the staircase and I turn to him and our eyes meet. He freezes upon seeing me and Raven says, “She knows, Cassian. She was spying on us.”I force words to come out of my mouth even though it feels like fear has a hold on me, “I didn’t hear anything, I swear.”Raven throws her hands up as she says, “Of course she’s going to tell you that! She doesn’t want you to know that she’s a little snoop. She’s going to tell Maddox and then what, Cassian?”His eyes move between the two of us, but he doesn’t come closer. He doesn’t try to help me off the floor and Raven spits out, “You know what we need to d
CassianI pace back and forth in my room. I’ve made the biggest mistake of my life… again! No one knows that Sebastian’s death was my fault in our past life. But in our last life, Maddox liked me and trusted me a bit more. He believed me when I told him that Sebastian had ill intentions, this time he is doubting me.I don’t know what I’m going to do. I want to hit a reset button. And, of course, she knew I would be feeling that way.Raven shows up out of nowhere and looks at me with a playful smirk on her lips as she says, “Hey there, how’d things go?”I roll my eyes and remark sarcastically, “Oh, it went fan freaking tastic! That’s why I’m in the same room as Charlotte right now and we’re finally consummating our relationship.”I sit on my bed with a huff and run my fingers through my hair before I ask, “Did it at least work?”Raven tilts her head to the side, her black her swaying as she does and says, “What do you think, Cassy?”The growl that rips from my chest sounds a lot harsh
CharlotteI don’t want to go anywhere with either of the twins. But I know I don’t have a choice.Maddox sat with me for awhile, he tried to give me an excuse a couple of times, but I shut him right up. I don’t want to hear his excuses. I want to know what happened and what he’s hiding from me.We sat for over an hour before Cassian joined us. His eyes flickered between us before he grumbled, “I have the office getting professional cleaned. You should both come back to the Lightning Pack and stay there.”I glare at him and he holds a hand out to help me up, but I refuse to take it. Once I’m on my feet I cross my arms and say, “I’m going back there because I have no other choice. Want to make this perfectly clear to both of you that I will not lie in the same bed as you.”Cassian huffs, “Understood.”Maddox tries to argue, “I don’t understand why I’m being punished when I wasn’t even apart of this. Charlotte, please, hear me out.”I snap, “I don’t want to hear you out! I told you about
CharlotteThis can’t be happening. Maddox promised me.But seeing him and Cassian both covered in blood with Sebastian’s dead body laying at their feet, I can’t help but scream in horror.Maddox stumbles over to me and reaches out as he says, “Charlotte, I can explain.”I step away from him as he gets closer. I shake my head, my jaw is dropped open, and my mouth is dry as I keep breathing in and out. I’m unable to calm down, this has to be a hallucination or something this can’t be real life!My eyes meet Maddox’s and I can see the concern in his look, but I feel no sympathy, I only feel anger. I growl out, “You did this. You promised me that you wouldn’t! You promised me that he would live!”He argues, “Charlotte, do you really think that if I was involved in this that I would risk you catching me in the act? I wasn’t apart of this! Please, trust me.”Tears blur my vision and my eyes flicker between both of the men and I notice how Cassian is alarmingly quiet. I shake my head as I sn
