Violet

It was a red, blinding light that burned straight through the greenhouse, and it came right from Thorne’s eyes.

“Drop it!” I called out, turning away. Dylan dropped it instantly, and we both stumbled a step back.

The greenhouse filled with a low, humming sound that lasted a few seconds, and Dylan’s gaze snapped to mine. My heart slammed against my ribs, and I could see the worry in his eyes.

“Were his eyes…red before?” he asked nervously.

I took a deep huff, shaking my head. “No,” I mutt

VioletThe speeches had been going on for a while, and I had lost track of how many people had spoken. There were so many of them. Brothers, sisters, more family. One after another, all speaking of pride, tradition, and the Moon Goddess.Yet, my eyes kept drifting back to Kayden, and I wasn’t the only one. It wasn’t his Howl, but all eyes were still on the prince who could suddenly walk again.A small breath escaped me as I stared at him, and Lady Mona, who rested her hand on his arm, proudly. She hadn’t stopped smiling once, and neither had he.He leaned back in his chair like he owned the room, smirking, and his eyes…they were locked on me.He probably wanted all of us dead for what we had done to him, or more so for what he had done to himself. He had become so obsessed with Thorne, and the most dangerous person is the one who has nothing left to lose. An uncomfortable chill went through my body, and my gaze moved forward again, back to where it was supposed to be.Kaelis.And Kyla

My heart slammed against my ribs, and I could see the worry in his eyes.“Were his eyes…red before?” he asked nervously.I took a deep huff, shaking my head. “No,” I muttered. “No, definitely not in our time.”My skin prickled. Thorne felt restless, and it made me think of the past. For all we knew, he was just waiting for the right moment to turn into another shadow beast.“That thing is out of control,” I told Dylan. “And if Kayden doesn’t get to him, Thorne will find him instead.”Dylan exhaled slowly, rubbing his hand over his face. He probably knew what was coming, but I couldn’t help it. The need to know how far this thing could go was stronger than the fe

VioletI went completely still. My fingers tightened around Kylan’s hand before I even realized what I was doing. With each step he took, too many whispers spread.“It’s true!”“He can really walk…”“A miracle!”Even Lady Mona rose from her seat, and for the first time that night, there was a real smile on her face. A proud and victorious smile. She glanced at the king, who shot her a glance back, an amused smirk displayed on his lips. And Cecilia…I didn’t miss the way her jaw locked and her lips trembled, though she tried so hard to keep her composure.“Did someone free him?” I whispered.“I don’t think so,” Kylan replied. “He looks…ridiculously strong for someone who was tied and gagged last time I saw him.”I swallowed and looked again. Kayden had a faint smirk on his lips. He looked better than he had that morning. No, better wasn’t even the word. He looked even stronger and healthier, more so than I thought was possible. It was like the smack on his head hadn’t taken him out, bu

VioletThe doors opened, and the ballroom went quiet. All heads turned to Kaelis as she entered, and her presence alone was enough to draw every eye in the room. She looked beautiful.Right behind her came the queen and Kiora, both smiling with pride. It took a second before everyone around me stood, and applause filled the room as the guests clapped in unison. I didn’t know what to do, but since this was what they apparently did at a howl, I joined in too.I felt Kylan’s eyes on me and knew what he was thinking. How could I press my palms together so easily after what I had just heard? Well, he wasn’t the problem here. The king was.I turned my gaze toward King Elyx. He was clapping the hardest and only looked at his daughter, but not even that was enough to make me believe such a man could ever be capable of being a good father. A good father wouldn’t try to sabotage his son’s mate bond.Between bringing up Chrystal and now announcing another mistress, I couldn’t help but wonder wha

VioletMy arm was sore from shaking too many hands, and the sides of my lips ached from smiling so much. The greetings never seemed to end. Elders, lords, ladies, distant relatives, and people who smiled like they actually enjoyed being here, while we all knew better.I had to admit the celebration itself was something special. The palace had outdone itself once more. The ballroom glowed under soft lights and lanterns, tables were decorated with flowers and filled with fresh food, and music floated through the room. It was packed.Even though we had helped plan parts of it, seeing it still made my breath catch. Everyone had poured their whole hearts into it for Kaelis.“We should take our seats,” Kylan whispered after shaking some elder’s hand. “I don’t want them to bother us again.”His eyes drifted, and I followed his gaze to the back of the room. There was a long table, much like the one from the feast. If not for the single presence that made it feel full, I would have had no issu

KylanThe room went silent, except for a weak sigh from the queen, who rubbed her temples as if she were reconsidering every life decision that led to this moment. Then the sound came. A loud scream from Kaelis as she yanked one heel off her foot and threw it straight at my head. “Asshole!”I ducked and chuckled as it flew past.“Kaelis!” Madam Renata said, rushing to her side before she could take off the other heel. “That is not proper behavior!”I thought we could joke around like we used to, but this definitely wasn’t her day. The queen waved a hand at me to get out, but I caught the smallest smile from her and Kiora, one they tried very hard to hide.I raised both hands in surrender and backed away, still laughing. Once the door closed behind me, I leaned against it. My head lowered as another guilty chuckle slipped out.It would be wise to apologize to her later.“What’s funny? Why are we laughing?”The sweet voice that filled my ears made my heart kick hard against my ribs. I d
