~Rielle

My heart stopped for a moment and the ground tilted under me. But I had to keep listening. I had to know.

"Can't wait to be rid of the thing. She was a pain in the ass like her father." Lucinda shuddered at the memory of the man who saved her family from bankruptcy.

"He did not see it coming," Jameson said with utmost glee. He laughed. "Seeing his corpse was so freeing. The shackles were finally off. We would not have to pay back a dime."

"It's sad, you know," Lucinda said. "That he left everything to such a retarded child."

"Not for long," Gloria said.

They laughed again.

I could suddenly not hear anything over the loud thumping of my heart. My shock had swallowed every other emotion that I should have felt. They killed my father. They killed the only person that I had because of the debts they owed and I was foolish enough to let them get away with it. Then fear settled in my stomach, heavy as lead. I was not safe. I had to leave before they knew I had heard.

I slowly rose to my feet and took a step backwards away from the door. They did not know I had heard, they continued conversing. Heavy hands clamped over my shoulders as I heard a voice. "Miss, you know it is impolite to eavesdrop."

My heart threatened to break through my ribs. I recognized the voice without turning. It was Brutus, Jameson's Beta.

I swallowed the rock hard lump that formed in my throat.

"Brutus…" That was all I could say before pain tore through my skull and I felt nothing.

The bitter sting of ice cold water pulled me out of my unconsciousness. My head throbbed badly but I opened my eyes to find myself in a chamber illuminated by a single torch that sat yards away.

I heard a snap of someone's finger. "Wake up." Ordered a voice that was achingly familiar.

I raised my head to meet Jameson's stare. The low light shadowed his features but I knew he was grinning.

I looked away from him and around my surroundings. I was not in some chamber, I was in a dungeon. Then it all came back in painful flashes, all that had happened and all I had heard.

"You're finally awake," Lucinda stepped in front of me. She took my chin harshly and surveyed my face. "Except for the lump on your head, this will do nicely."

I tried to move only to realise that I could not move my body or speak. Panic slammed into me. What had they done to me?

"Don't bother," Jameson said, easily. "Struggling would be a waste since you don't have long to live."

My heart stopped, they were going to kill me.

As though reading my mind another voice piped up. "We promise that it won't be quick." Gloria

She moved closer to me, her eyes filled with loathing. "You have no idea how long I have waited for this day. You were a leach, sticking to my darling Jamie for all these years. I was fucking forced to stand in the sidelines." She drew her hand back and struck me hard across the face.

I could do nothing but to take it, still unable to move.

Then she hit me, again and again and again until Jameson held her back. "That's enough, darling." He held her to his chest.

The sight hurt more than the slaps.

Lucinda raised a sheet of paper to my face. "We have already assisted you in writing the suicide letter so you don't have to strain your wrist." She mocked.

"Shall we begin?" She asked and they nodded. Brutus, who had had his arms crossed in the corner of the room, finally moved. He brought a sharp blade to Lucinda.

I tried to move, willing my cells to comply but my body was as unmoving as a boulder.

Lucinda took my wrist and placed it on the table. Our eyes met and I let my tears slip through, hoping I could reach into her humanity. Into the mother that I once knew.

She only smiled but it was all teeth and sharp edges. "I have no mercy for you, dear. It is better for us this way." Then she took the blade to my wrist, pierced and pulled so hard. I would have screamed if I could but that was just another liberty that had been taken from me.

The blood bubbled quickly to the surface and spilled freely. The pain was immense and all consuming. She did the same with my other wrist and it did not take long before the edges of my vision began to darken.

I would die by their hands, like my father and they would get everything that he had worked for. There would be no justice. No reckoning for those who deceived and used me. I would never get to avenge my father.

"She should be dead soon," I heard a voice but my brain was in too much shambles for me to place it. "Let's go." I heard retreating footsteps.

I felt cold and heavy. I could not cry out but everything hurt. I wanted to be strong, to hold on until someone would find me. I could not die like this. Yet, the pain was unrelenting in its brutality so I prayed for reprieve. I prayed for death.

I heard footfalls and a dark figure approaching. Death had answered my prayers and came for me at last. But then fear took over, bringing with it a sense of self-preservation.

I tried to fight again, squirming and writhing through the pain. I felt arms around me, holding me to a muscled chest. I had heard that death was cold but this body was warm. Death held me to him and despite the pain, I felt my body relax on its own accord.

"Stay alive for me, princess." His voice was silk over gravel and my abused body tingled.

My last thought before I was pulled into darkness's embrace was, why would death tell me to stay alive?

Raphael~"There is nothing to be worried about, Luna," the Delta said after she was done with her examination."You are in top health, and so is your wolf," she assured. We exchanged looks. "But I can't shift," Lucianne said, worry and frustration evident in her voice. But the Delta's assured expression remained the same. "I know, but in cases like yours, it is to be expected. Wolfsbane is the deadliest poison in all werewolf kind. It kills, as we all know. But not only did you survive it, but your wolf returned to you. It is a rare occurrence, so it's not surprising that you are having trouble letting your wolf take over. Your wolf needs time to recuperate, like you did. Medicine will be prepared for you to aid with the process, but you have nothing to worry about. In due time, it will happen."The crinkle in her brow told me that the Delta's words did little to put her mind at peace.I squeezed her hand when her frown only deepened. "You don't have to worry." I tried to soothe her.

Lucianne~"Jameson is getting married to Gloria, that was the first news." I waited to feel something, anything, for the scum that had almost ended my life, but nothing came. I was truly free of that bond to the monster. Raphael studied me, his gaze inquisitive, looking for a reaction. I smiled. "I feel nothing for that bastard. It's the other thing in the letter that has me worried." "The weapon that the Overlord has in the works?" "Obviously," I told him, taking a gulp of water. He shrugged slightly. "I will ensure that the information is added and considered until Alisa supplies us with more." I nodded, setting the skin of water down with a bit more force than necessary. The thought of that weapon, whatever it was, sent a chill through me. The Overlord was no stranger to dark arts and cruel inventions, and the very idea that he was developing something new—something potentially catastrophic—was enough to keep me on edge."Do you think Alisa will be able to get more information

Alisa~My heart skipped a beat at the pronouncement of the Overlord. Raphael's eye could be used against him. And after months of watching the Overlord, I could say that I knew him well, almost intimately. He was a man who was not only devilishly intelligent but also dabbled in the dark arts. The same dark arts of the ancient Lunaris Pack. So my fear was warranted. His talks about the blood of beasts and the hearts of virgins were not simply empty words. I had been a witness to many of his atrocities. The women and men who were killed in the castle for trivial reasons were not released to their families after their deaths. Their deaths had been labeled as their punishment for 'treason' against the almighty Overlord. They were not given the opportunity of a respectful burial; they simply did not deserve it. But it was a facade for what was actually going on. Their remains were being used. The Overlord bathed in the blood of his subjects, literally. For power. The tongue of the maid had

Alisa~My heart lunged against my ribcage, and I held back a gasp. I held my breath, frightened out of my mind. Could he see me despite my invisibility? It was impossible, yet despite how much I begged my heart to calm, it refused, probably knowing how close it was to being ripped out of my body. But the beta looked away and faced his evil elites. "That's the message," he said."What!" Tarin Bloodclaw howled like a man in pain. "The bitch actually survived wolfbane?""That should be impossible," another elite, the stocky, bald Dorfin Vale, breathed out. "We were informed the dose that she was administered was lethal. Or did your little puppy lie to us? After our donations, he dared—"The atmosphere of the chamber shifted so fast. The panic on their faces was as clear as day now. The cockiness was gone, and Verin Blade had gone decidedly quiet, his complexion having gone pale from shock. That was something that the Dominion Plot and I had to agree on. I was left flabbergasted as well,

Alisa~The Overlord stood, his imposing figure casting an elongated shadow across the room as he paced with a measured, deliberate stride. His scar, still pink yet stark from whatever violence had created it, seemed to pulsate with every step, drawing attention to the cold fury that simmered beneath his rigid facade. His sharp, golden eyes surveyed the men seated before him, his lips curling into a sneer as he spoke."We are on the brink of war," he growled, his voice like gravel scraping over steel. "The Triad bastards grow weaker by the day. As you know, Raphael's mate has lost both her wolf and her mind," he flashed a self-satisfied smirk. "All thanks to my ally, Jameson Hannes."My stomach turned at his words. I did not need to hear from my brother's castle to know what had been going on. Not when The Dominion Plot always liked to boast of their victories and announce information. Through them, I had found out about everything that has occurred since I initially informed Raphael o

  • The Lycan Princess' Revenge    Chapter 86

Alisa~It took hours to clean up the bloody aftermath of the man's torture and death. Afterward, I was left sour and aching, not to mention the nausea that continued to crawl up the back of my throat. I had caught whiffs of dead bodies before, almost always animals, and the people that did die before me—I never had the cause to stay there for too long. But not today.Today, apart from having to witness a Gamma from an allied pack of my brother's pack die a horrible death, I had come to learn what dead bodies truly smelled like. It smelled just like an animal carcass but with a saccharine stench, a sickly sweet kind that filled your senses and made your eyes sting. It made bile rise in the back of my throat. But the dungeon had to be spotless if I wanted to keep my head. The maids here were replaceable, and there was no excuse for work done poorly, only punishment. Broken fingers and slit throats were never off the table. I reached for a bloodstain near the Gamma's dead body. Then he m
