Serena's POV

I watched Alejandro fight.

His eyes were barely open, his hand was gripping mine, and his breath came in short, ragged gasps. He was trying so hard to stay awake, to stay with me, and to not let the darkness take him. But the fire in his veins was too hot, and the pain was too deep, and I could see him slipping.

"Stay with me," I said, and I squeezed his hand. "Stay with me, Alejandro."

He looked

Serena's POVThe walk from the chambers to the court hall was slow.Alejandro leaned on me more with every step, and his breath came in short, ragged gasps. His hand gripped my arm so tightly that I could feel the imprint of his fingers through my sleeve. The guards we passed bowed their heads, and the servants pressed themselves against the walls, and I heard the whispers start before we even reached the doors."The king is walking.""He should be in bed.""He is coming to the celebration."I did not care about any of them. I only cared about Alejandro, and about getting him through those doors without him collapsing. We reached the entrance, and I looked at Alejandro."Are you ready?" I asked.Alejandro nodded, and he straightened his spine, and he let go of my arm. Then we

But the fire in his veins was too hot, and the pain was too deep, and I could see him slipping."Stay with me," I said, and I squeezed his hand. "Stay with me, Alejandro."He looked at me, and his golden eyes were glassy and unfocused. "I am trying," Alejandro whispered. "I am trying."Then his eyes closed, his hand went limp in mine, and his breathing slowed."No," I whispered, and I shook him gently. "No, no, no, Alejandro, wake up. Wake up."But he did not wake. The chief healer pushed me aside, and his hands moved to Alejandro's wound, and I heard him mutter something under his breath.

  • The Lycan king's Forbidden Obssesion   Chapter 91: The Stunned Court

Doña Beatriz's POVThe arena was still full when the guards carried the king away.I had watched them go, I had watched the human walk beside them, and I had watched the gates close behind them. Then I had turned back to the court, and I had seen the silence settle over them like a shroud. The silence was louder than any scream as everyone watched the guards carry the king away. They moved quickly and carefully, with the kind of urgency that came from knowing that every second mattered.I could see that the king was pale in their arms, his golden eyes were closed, and the herbs and bandages on his side were soaked through with black blood. The human, Serena, walked beside him, and her hand was clasped tightly around the king's hand, and her face was a mask of fear and determination. They disappeared through the gates, and the sound of their footsteps faded into nothing, an

Alejandro's POVI felt her arms around me before I understood what was happening. One moment I was standing, and the next the world tilted, and the silver in my veins came alive like a fire that had been waiting for the right moment to burn. I heard Serena's voice, distant and desperate, calling my name. I felt her hands gripping my arms, holding me up, and I felt the eyes of the entire court on us, watching their king fall.I felt the shame of it, the shame of being seen like this, and the shame of being weak. But I also felt something else, something stronger than the shame, something that kept me tethered to the world even as the fire tried to pull me under.I felt Serena. Her presence was like a thread of light in the darkness, thin but unbreakable, pulling me back from the edge. I did not know how she did it, and I did not know why it worked, but the bon

  • The Lycan king's Forbidden Obssesion   Chapter 89: The verdict

Serena's POVI pulled back from Alejandro, and I looked at the arena. The court was still there, the nobles were still in their seats, the guards were still standing at attention, and the healers were still hovering at the edges of the sand. And Felipe was still chained to the iron gate, watching us with his dark, hateful eyes.I looked at Felipe, and he looked back at me. His dark eyes were full of hatred, and his lips were still moving behind the gag, and I knew that if he could speak, he would be screaming. He was not defeated, and he was not broken. He was just waiting for his next chance.I looked away. The moment between Alejandro and me had been real, but it had not stopped the world from turning. There was still a judgment to be delivered. There was still a sentence to be pronounced, and Alejandro was still bleeding.I did not want to let go of him, a

Serena's POVI pulled back from the kiss, and Alejandro stood on his feet.We prepared to step out of the arena, but Alejandro's body swayed. But I caught him before he fell.Alejandro's weight sagged against me, and I felt his body tremble, and I felt his hand grip my shoulder like he was holding onto the only solid thing in the world. His face was pale, and his breathing was ragged, and the black blood from the wound in his side was still seeping through his fingers and dripping onto the sand."Alejandro," I said, and I tightened my arms around him. "Alejandro, you need to sit down.""I am fine," Alejandro said, and his voice was hoarse. "I am fine.""You are not fine," I said. "You are bleeding, you are shaking, and you can barely stand.""I am fine," Alejandro said again, and he tried to straighten up, but his legs buckled, and I had

I woke the morning after my meeting with Felipe, and the first thing I saw was the tray of food on the table, still untouched from the day before. The fire had burned low while I slept, and the room was cold enough that I could see my own breath hanging in the air. My back ached from pressing again

Serena's POV The nobles smiled at me whenever I walked through the halls of the ice Castle, and that was how I knew they wanted me dead, because I had learned to read smiles a long time ago, back when I was a child who needed to know whether the person approaching her was going to hurt her or just
