I went completely rigid as she said that. Of all the things, I would have expected her to say, this was the least.

This girl had managed to surprise me yet again.

Her face was scrunched in pain, her lips were trembling and she was writhing in pain, still reaching for something.

Just minutes ago, I had been watching her sleep peacefully, the soft glow of moonlight seeping in through the windows and illuminating her face.

What had she just said?

Did she say ‘love’ not ‘want’ or ‘need’? Was I capable of being loved?

Surely there must be a mistake. Nobody could ever love me. They could want me, could lust after me, want to be by my side because I was a dark, powerful prince, and offer them a life filled with luxury and riches.

But, could anybody ever love me? Could anybody ever accept me for what I was?

My hand automatically went to my face as my hand traced my scar, my fingers brushing it.

And, I quickly shook my head. I was conflicted about how to feel about her confession.
