Carson POV I had been holding Marly tight to my body. I felt her strength depleting, and I tried to call out to her. Tried to get her back to me, but it was no use. I felt the moment I lost her, when it felt like her spirit had left her body. I knew she was breathing but she was passed out from the strain of healing Sarah. I gathered her into my arms, and asked the nurse for a room where I could try and coax Marly back to me. I carried her into the room, with the King close on my heels. “What is happening?” the King asked, concern lacing his words. “She did too much. Now she needs rest,” I shared, as I placed her on the bed before joining her and wrapping my arms around her chilled body. “Should I get a doctor?” the King asked, but I shook my head no. “Leave us for now. When she comes back, we will join you. For now, keep an eye on Sarah and Jeff. I hope this was worth it,” I muttered as I kissed Marly’s forehead. “Come
Marly POV I felt nauseous when I saw the look on Jeff’s face. I did not know if his anger was directed at me or not, but I felt Carson take a step towards me while the King stepped closer to my other side. “What are you doing back here?” he snarled as he stood and took a step towards us. “She came back to help,” Carson stated, clearly daring Jeff to defy him. “A little late don’t you think?” Jeff snipped back. Carson took a step towards him, “Tell us what is happening,” he urged his friend, trying to get him on track with updating us on the situation. “The wound to her abdomen is bad,” he muttered before sitting back down, placing his head in his hands. “Is she out of surgery?” I asked softly. Jeff’s body tensed but he did not look at me. “She is - I am waiting to see her,” he replied. “What did they tell you?” Carson asked, trying to get his friend to share the situation at hand. “She was pregnant with our pup. She lost t
Carson POV The King simply stared at Marly. “That is not possible. How would my son, your brother, be connected to the King of Rogues?” he asked. “He may not be, and it may not be your son, but he looked like you,” she replied, stepping away from us. “What do they want?” I asked Marly, already knowing the answer. “They want me,” she replied, shaking her head. “I do not know why,” she added. “Your talents; if they know you are a royal, they will know you have talents,” I responded. “Wouldn’t my brother have talents as well?” she asked the King. “No, the males in our family have limited talents. Your uncle was an exception to that rule. That is why he was able to hide them,” the King shared. “That makes you even more valuable,” I said, as much to myself as to them. Protecting Marly here would be difficult. “You need to go back to the Palace,” I said, anxious to get her away from here. From being out in the open.
Marly POV Three hours later and we were back at the Full Moon Pack. I mind-linked Carson that I was back, and he asked me to meet him at the dungeons. I told the driver where to take us, with the King beside me. The Queen had wanted to come, but the King had said no. He needed her at the Palace to ensure all was okay. I knew the truth. He did not want his mate in harm’s way. We finally arrived at the dungeons, and I opened the door quickly, without waiting for the door to be opened for me. I stepped out of the car and saw Carson. I frowned when I saw the stress marring his face. I moved forward, and before I could speak, he simply pulled me into his arms, drawing in my scent. “I am sorry, sweetheart,” he murmured. “I understand,” I said, knowing he meant he was sorry to call me home. I stepped out of his embrace, “Let us go and see what they have to say,” I replied, not ready to forgive him for the decisions
Carson POV We paced the hospital floor waiting for Sarah to come out of surgery. She had an abdominal wound, that looked bad. Jeff sat down, putting his head in his hands. “What if something happens to her? How will I go on without her?” he asked. I moved to his side, “Do not think like that, man. She will be fine. She is strong,” I said, trying to reassure my best friend. “There was so much blood,” he mumbled as he thought of his mate fighting for her life. I put my hand on his shoulder and just sat with him like that as we waited. A doctor came from the other direction, looking for me. “Alpha?” he asked. “Yes, what is it?” I responded, knowing this was the doctor taking care of Cole. “The Gamma was poisoned when he was bitten by the Rogues,” he stated. “Poisoned? How is that possible?” I asked. “The Rogues were infected with a disease we have not seen before. The lab is working on the antidote, but until then, we ar
Carson POV Leaving Marly behind was the hardest thing I have ever had to do, but it was necessary to ensure her protection. I was assured by the King and Queen that they would watch over Marly and help her through the next couple of days. Since we had decided to return home, there had been two more Rogue attacks. Getting to the Full Moon Pack was the priority and knowing that Marly was safe was a relief. I could feel the pain Marly was enduring through our mate bond, but I had to put it on the backburner for now. We raced through the roads to get home, making it in record time. I could feel the change in the air. A tension that I had not felt before as I approached our territory. Our warriors were currently fighting a group of Rogues on the west side of our pack. As soon as the vehicle stopped, Jeff, Sarah and I were racing to the western border. As we arrived, we quickly saw our warriors were outnumbered. Without thought
Marly POV “Marly, it is time,” Carson said softly. I had felt him watching me for the past couple of minutes while I stood on the patio, and I could feel him moving towards me now. “Just go,” she said, not turning to look at him. He moved forward, wrapping his arms around my waist, “Please understand,” he started to say when I cut him off. “I do not understand, and I will not pretend to,” I responded. “This is the right thing to do, Marly. It is not easy for me either,” Carson replied, starting to sound frustrated with the situation. I stepped away from him, out of his arms and turned to look at him, tears filling my eyes. “I am sorry for you, but you are not the one being left behind. The one not deemed good enough,” I stated, watching surprise roll over his face. “Marly, I never said you were not good enough,” he said, but I ignored him and stepped around his body. He tried to grab a hold of my hand, but I pulled away b
Marly POV My head continued pounding, and all I could do was continue to take the medication to help ease the pain. Carson had been encouraging me to keep hydrated, while I tried to remember if I missed anything while reading the King’s brother. I could hardly call him my uncle. I despised the man for all the damage he had caused. “I need to go back and get more information,” I commented as I stood on wavering legs. Carson grabbed my arm before I fell back on the couch, “It can wait,” he muttered as the King and Queen watched with concern in their eyes. “Carson is right. Nobody is going anywhere,” the King suggested. “Don’t you want to know more?” I asked, confused by the King’s response. “Desperately,” Queen Jasmine said quickly. Tears filled her eyes, “The fact that I was able to be tricked into believing I only had one child, and not two, is devastating to me. What kind of mother am I?” she questioned, as the Kin
Carson POV When Marly passed out, I swept her into my arms and carried her back to our room. The King and Queen were on my heels, “What did she mean, she has a twin brother?” the King yelled. “I have no idea, but right now Marly is my main concern,” I replied, keeping a lid on my anger. Marly was always exhausted after a session, but this one took a lot out of her. She was surrounded by evil intentions, and I had to wonder if that was what had caused her to pass out after reading her uncle. I looked down into Marly’s face, only to see her still asleep. “I am taking her back to our room. She needs rest,” I commented to the royal couple. Both were still following me, not listening to what I was saying. “I said …,” I started to say when I was cut off, “We heard you. She is our daughter, and we will do what we can to help her,” the Queen stated angrily. “Perhaps we should take her to the hospital?” the King que
