Marly POV
My heart was racing at the thoughts of another rejection so soon after the last one. The pain had been incredible – nothing I had experienced before, and now it was going to happen again. Clearing his throat, the man in front of me drew my attention to him. This was it. It was happening.
“I do not know that you would survive another rejection,” he replied, bluntly. I looked at him, “Oh,” was all I could muster out of my mouth. “When will you do it?” I asked. “I have never met a woman so quick to be rejected,” he said with a smile. I looked at him and realized what an attractive man he was.
Maxwell was a boy, where this was a grown man who looked like he knew what life was about. “I need to leave here, sooner than later,” I stated. “Why is that?” he questioned. “If I stay, the Alpha is going to make me his mistress,” I whispered. I heard a soft growl, and looked at the man, startled by what I was hearing.
“That is not happening,” the man responded. He stood, and I took a step backwards. I was not certain what he was going to do, but I did not want to take a chance with being hit. “Who are you?” I asked, realizing I did not know his name and the curiousity was killing me.
He held out his hand, slowly, waiting for me to take it. “My name is Carson, and who would you be?” he asked politely. “Marly. Marly Bent,” I said softy. Carson. Even his name was perfect and the sparks that bounced between us as he held my hand was stronger than anything I had felt with Maxwell.
If that was anything to go by, I may very well die during the rejection after all. And I guess that would be a better plight than being stuck with Maxwell while he took my children from me. “Tell me about yourself, Marly,” Carson suggested. I looked at him like he had lost his mind.
“No offence, Carson, but I am not up for small talk. My future is quite literally in your hands. We need to make some decisions, so I can make my escape,” I reminded him. “What if I had an alternative offer for you?” he asked. My heart sunk. Another offer? “No, I am not interested in being your breeder,” I spit out.
He choked for a moment, while he released my hand. “No, I quite agree; I am not looking for a breeder,” he replied. “You certainly are a spitfire,” he said with a smirk. I simply glared at him, not clear what he was meaning. “What if I offered to take you to my pack? No strings attached. You could work as an Omega there,” he offered.
“What about the mate bond?” I asked, uncertain what this all would mean for me. He hesitated, giving some thought to his answer. “I admit, I was not in the market for a mate. Before we make any rash decisions, we can wait until we get to my pack, and go from there,” he suggested.
I looked at him in awe. “And your Alpha will not mind you bringing an Omega to your pack?” I asked. Carson smiled, “I am close to the Alpha. I am confident he would be fine with this decision,” he replied. I simply stood there for a moment, in complete shock at my rejection, but also at finding a second chance mate so quickly. Sadly, another to lose. I am pretty sure the Moon Goddess will not be giving me a third, but I would have to deal with that when the time came.
I slowly held my hand out to Carson. He took my small hand, in his much bigger hand. I felt the sparks bounce between us and felt him lean in towards me. He was staring at my lips, and I could see the color in his eyes changing, indicating his wolf was taking over.
Just as his lips were about to brush mine, there was a sharp knock on the door and it creaked open. Carson jumped away from me, as I stood there simply staring into his beautiful grey eyes. “What the hell do you want Jeff?” Carson demanded of this man. “Just wondering what we are doing in here?” he asked.
Carson’s eyes went glazy, the look wolves get when they mind-link one another. He was saying something to Jeff that he did not want me to hear. Probably that he was stuck with me as his mate. I saw Jeff smile. Yep, they were laughing at me. Getting angry, I simply stalked out of the room and left Carson behind.
Escaping was my only choice, and I would do so now. I entered the hallway and saw another woman standing there. I recognized her from the pack, but did not know her. “Marly,” I heard from behind me, but I ignored it and kept moving forward. I needed to get out of here.
As I entered the lobby I knew Carson was on my heels, but I kept moving forward. I saw my mother and father there, and was moving towards them to tell them I was leaving, when my father backhanded me across the cheek. I staggered backwards and would have fallen, had Carson not caught me.
“Who the hell are you and why would you touch my mate?!?”.

Carson POV I could hardly breathe. Marly was back and looking at me as if nothing had happened. I wanted to reach out and touch her, but I was afraid she would disappear in front of my eyes. “Are you real?” I asked softly. “I am real, and you better get over here and kiss me,” she muttered, as I smiled a smile of relief. I stepped forward, capturing her lips. Marly was back and so were our sparks. She was mine, and I was hers. “Mate,” I whispered against her lips, “Mate,” she replied with a sigh. “You scared me there, sweetheart,” I said to her, as she took my hand. “Scared me more,” she replied, as she gripped my hand. It was as if she had fought a battle to return to me. “How?” I asked, wanting to understand. “The Moon Goddess came to me. She offered me the chance to come back with my powers, but when I did that, I had lost you. So, she came back to me, offering to send me back without my powers. I have no powers, Carson,” she said,
Marly POV I could not make sense of Carson’s anger. Why was he angry to find his mate? “You!” he spit out, as I watched him step towards me. “Me, what?” I asked, waiting for him to say this was a joke and he remembered me. “How could the Princess of the Kingdom be my mate? This must be a joke,” he muttered, as he came to stand beside me. “Princess? What do you mean?” I asked. “Have you hit your head? You are the spoiled Princess of the Kingdom,” he replied, looking away from me in disgust. “I am your mate, Carson,” I replied. “Oh, you remember my name do you Ms. Snooty?” he asked. I was so confused. What had I missed upon returning from the dead? “Carson, I want to be your mate,” I said earnestly, almost begging him to recognize me as his mate. He looked at me, conflicted with what he was seeing to what he believed he knew. “No, nope; I cannot accept this,” he muttered as he walked out of the room, leaving me devastated. W
Marly POV I watch as my body lay there, not responding to anything or anyone in the room. Tears filled my eyes as I watched Carson sob at losing me. I could not contain the tears, as they streaked down my cheeks. I watched the scene unfold before me, shock filling my body as I realized I was lost to this world. All I had ever wanted was a happy ever after. Carson had been that for me. The man who stole my heart when I did not think it was possible for anybody to love me. I watched as he lay beside my cold body. I wanted to reach my hand out to touch him. I wanted to let him know I was here, but I was not here. Not in the literal sense. Is this how I would live my life now? Watching him go through the motions of existing until he found a new love. My heart nearly burst with pain at the thoughts of him looking to a new love the way he had looked at me. I bent over as the pain overwhelmed me. My thoughts destroying what was left.
Carson POV I stand as the doctor rushes from the operating room. “Please come quickly, Alpha,” the doctor requested. I moved quickly, following behind him, as I eagerly look towards seeing Marly up and waiting to see me. “I am very sorry, Alpha,” the doctor is saying, but I have no concept of her words. “What are you sorry for?” I asked, seeking clarification. “I was saying we were unable to save your mate, but I wanted you to see her in her final minutes,” the doctor repeated. “What?!?” I roared as the doctor stepped back in shock. “Take me to her immediately,” I commanded, uncertain how we landed here. “She was alive when we came in; how can she be lost to us now?” I asked, trying to restore calm in my body. I just needed to see Marly and somehow convince her to come back to me. She was not gone. I refused to believe what the doctor was telling me. “Alpha, her injuries were severe. Without her wolf helping to heal her, there was not much
Carson POV “Marly! Hold on!” I yelled as I tried to stop Marly bleeding out in my arms. I had a medic with me who moved forward trying to help as well. “We need to get the Luna to a hospital, Alpha. There is only so much we can do here,” the medic advised me. “What is the good of you being here if you can do nothing to save her?” I raged. I knew I was being unreasonable, but nothing could stop me. Saving Marly was all that I was focused on. “I will call ahead to the nearest hospital to advise we are coming,” the medic replied, not taking my words personally. I ignored him as I kept kissing Marly’s forehead. I took into stock all her injuries. How had she survived? And why was Layla not helping to heal her? I knew she was injured and could not heal herself. Perhaps the injuries were far deeper than I realized. “Kane, can you sense Layla?” I asked my wolf. “No, I cannot; I am worried for both our mates,” he replied sadly. As I
Marly POV A rage overtook me, and I used all my power to push the man away from me. He flew across the room, taking a large chunk of my flesh with him. I had managed to push him off me before he hit bone. Only then would his mark have been permanent. I turned and raced to the door I had entered the room through. Men surrounding me tried to grab me, but using my powers, I was able to toss them aside with little effort. I still had no sound from Layla, but I plunged forward, seeing my escape looming just ahead of me. Just as my hand almost reached the door, out of nowhere came a black wolf, slamming into my side and shoving me into the far wall. I cursed as I hit the wall hard, feeling my arm break with the hit. I needed time to heal the wound. Time was one thing I had none of and without Layla, I was unable to focus on my wounds. My neck was bleeding at a rapid pace, and now I was with a broken arm. I could feel faintness creeping in, but
