Carson POV
I held Marly with one hand, while grabbing the hand and snapping the wrist of the man who had just dared to touch my mate. I heard him scream in pain, as I released him and watched as a woman ran to his side. “How dare you!” she screamed as she tried to help the man.
“She cannot be your mate. She is Maxwell’s mate,” the man bit out, as he held his hand to his chest. “She is no longer his mate; he rejected her,” I stated to the couple. They gasped in shock looking between me and Marly. “She is just an Omega. Why would a man like you, want her?” the man spit out.
I set Marly on her feet and stepped in front of Marly protecting her from these evil people. “Who the hell are you?” I commanded. The man cleared his throat, “We are her parents. And we apologize for the chaos she has created,” he said, as if somehow pacifying me with his words.
“Apologize for what? Being rejected? That is hardly her fault,” I reminded them. “It is entirely her fault. She does not even have a wolf,” her mother spewed out. “I have a wolf. She just has not come forward yet,” Marly snarled behind me. She was right. I could detect a wolf, but it was currently dormant for whatever reason. Perhaps because she was an Omega.
“The fact that your wolf has not come forward is an indication of more wrong with you than we first realized,” her father bit out around the pain of his swelling wrist. “Reject her, and we will take her home,” her mother said, as if this was a normal occurrence. I stared at them for a moment, before looking to Marly.
“Well, are you staying at Red Pines Pack or coming with me?” I asked her. She looked to her parents, the pain and hurt she was experiencing on her face. She then looked back to me, “I am going with you,” she replied quietly. “Are you out of your mind? Do you know who this man is?” her mother scowled at her.
I felt Marly put her hand in mine, “I cannot stay here and be a breeder for my ex-mate and my sister,” Marly said to her parents. Her mother had the grace to gasp when she heard the plans for her daughter. “You would do well to accept the offer, Marly. This man will simply do the same when you get to his pack,” her father added.
I growled, as Marly looked up at me. I could see the fear in her eyes, but there was something else as well. Resiliency. She may have been weaker, or beaten down, but I could see her strength coming through. “It has to be better than what is for me here,” she replied to her father, before looking back to me. “Can we go now?” she asked.
“With pleasure,” I replied. “Do you want to get your things?” I asked her. “I will grab my bag,” she said, as she left to get her stuff. “You better get that wrist taken care of. I am quite certain there were multiple breaks,” I said smugly to the arrogant prick standing in front of me.
“Do not bother sending her back, when you are done with her,” he muttered as he walked past me. “Say anything else, and I will break the other wrist,” I promised him. He scurried off with his wife. Not surprising that they have nothing to say to their daughter before she leaves.
Jeff came up behind us, “Well, Marly. It is certainly nice to meet you,” Jeff stated as he kept my little secret. I did not want Marly to know I was the Alpha Lycan for the kingdom just yet. I sensed she would panic even more than she already was, and I wanted a chance to get to know her without the formalities that would come soon enough.
“What is keeping her so long?” I asked nobody in particular. Suddenly I hear a scream, and I know immediately it is Marly. I race off in the direction she left, wanting to get to her as soon as possible. What else would this poor woman have to endure at the hands of the Red Pines Pack members.
Jeff and his mate were close on my heels. I got to a door that had a tight staircase, which led to a door to the basement. I stomped down the stairs, enraged to see a woman now beating up Marly. “What the hell?” I yelled as I pulled the woman off my mate. She had torn Marly’s dress and left her standing there half dressed.
“Who the hell are you?” I demanded. I heard more footsteps coming down the stairs and immediately removed my jacket and placed it over Marly’s shoulders. “I am her sister. And I am telling you Marly, I will kill you, if you do not leave Maxwell alone!” she yelled.
“No worries there. She is coming with me,” I replied as I tucked Marly under my arm. “Do you have everything?” I asked her. I looked around the room and saw the filthy mattress on the floor, and wondered how Marly had managed to live in these conditions. Rage filled my body, as I looked to see Maxwell join his Luna, with Alpha Luke not far behind.
“Yes, I have what I need,” Marly replied around a swelling lip. “You can’t be serious,” Marly’s sister said with a smirk. “Why can’t I be serious?” I asked, stepping closer to her. In her arrogance, she had no visible semblance of fear. “You cannot want this useless Omega,” she said with a chuckle.
“I dare you,” I said to the woman. She replied arrogantly, “Dare me to do what?”. “I dare you to insult my mate one more time,” I said coldly. Her smile dropped from her face as she looked between us. “What is the Alpha Lycan going to do with an Omega?” she questioned as I felt Marly gasp beside me.

Carson POV I could hardly breathe. Marly was back and looking at me as if nothing had happened. I wanted to reach out and touch her, but I was afraid she would disappear in front of my eyes. “Are you real?” I asked softly. “I am real, and you better get over here and kiss me,” she muttered, as I smiled a smile of relief. I stepped forward, capturing her lips. Marly was back and so were our sparks. She was mine, and I was hers. “Mate,” I whispered against her lips, “Mate,” she replied with a sigh. “You scared me there, sweetheart,” I said to her, as she took my hand. “Scared me more,” she replied, as she gripped my hand. It was as if she had fought a battle to return to me. “How?” I asked, wanting to understand. “The Moon Goddess came to me. She offered me the chance to come back with my powers, but when I did that, I had lost you. So, she came back to me, offering to send me back without my powers. I have no powers, Carson,” she said,
Marly POV I could not make sense of Carson’s anger. Why was he angry to find his mate? “You!” he spit out, as I watched him step towards me. “Me, what?” I asked, waiting for him to say this was a joke and he remembered me. “How could the Princess of the Kingdom be my mate? This must be a joke,” he muttered, as he came to stand beside me. “Princess? What do you mean?” I asked. “Have you hit your head? You are the spoiled Princess of the Kingdom,” he replied, looking away from me in disgust. “I am your mate, Carson,” I replied. “Oh, you remember my name do you Ms. Snooty?” he asked. I was so confused. What had I missed upon returning from the dead? “Carson, I want to be your mate,” I said earnestly, almost begging him to recognize me as his mate. He looked at me, conflicted with what he was seeing to what he believed he knew. “No, nope; I cannot accept this,” he muttered as he walked out of the room, leaving me devastated. W
Marly POV I watch as my body lay there, not responding to anything or anyone in the room. Tears filled my eyes as I watched Carson sob at losing me. I could not contain the tears, as they streaked down my cheeks. I watched the scene unfold before me, shock filling my body as I realized I was lost to this world. All I had ever wanted was a happy ever after. Carson had been that for me. The man who stole my heart when I did not think it was possible for anybody to love me. I watched as he lay beside my cold body. I wanted to reach my hand out to touch him. I wanted to let him know I was here, but I was not here. Not in the literal sense. Is this how I would live my life now? Watching him go through the motions of existing until he found a new love. My heart nearly burst with pain at the thoughts of him looking to a new love the way he had looked at me. I bent over as the pain overwhelmed me. My thoughts destroying what was left.
Carson POV I stand as the doctor rushes from the operating room. “Please come quickly, Alpha,” the doctor requested. I moved quickly, following behind him, as I eagerly look towards seeing Marly up and waiting to see me. “I am very sorry, Alpha,” the doctor is saying, but I have no concept of her words. “What are you sorry for?” I asked, seeking clarification. “I was saying we were unable to save your mate, but I wanted you to see her in her final minutes,” the doctor repeated. “What?!?” I roared as the doctor stepped back in shock. “Take me to her immediately,” I commanded, uncertain how we landed here. “She was alive when we came in; how can she be lost to us now?” I asked, trying to restore calm in my body. I just needed to see Marly and somehow convince her to come back to me. She was not gone. I refused to believe what the doctor was telling me. “Alpha, her injuries were severe. Without her wolf helping to heal her, there was not much
Carson POV “Marly! Hold on!” I yelled as I tried to stop Marly bleeding out in my arms. I had a medic with me who moved forward trying to help as well. “We need to get the Luna to a hospital, Alpha. There is only so much we can do here,” the medic advised me. “What is the good of you being here if you can do nothing to save her?” I raged. I knew I was being unreasonable, but nothing could stop me. Saving Marly was all that I was focused on. “I will call ahead to the nearest hospital to advise we are coming,” the medic replied, not taking my words personally. I ignored him as I kept kissing Marly’s forehead. I took into stock all her injuries. How had she survived? And why was Layla not helping to heal her? I knew she was injured and could not heal herself. Perhaps the injuries were far deeper than I realized. “Kane, can you sense Layla?” I asked my wolf. “No, I cannot; I am worried for both our mates,” he replied sadly. As I
Marly POV A rage overtook me, and I used all my power to push the man away from me. He flew across the room, taking a large chunk of my flesh with him. I had managed to push him off me before he hit bone. Only then would his mark have been permanent. I turned and raced to the door I had entered the room through. Men surrounding me tried to grab me, but using my powers, I was able to toss them aside with little effort. I still had no sound from Layla, but I plunged forward, seeing my escape looming just ahead of me. Just as my hand almost reached the door, out of nowhere came a black wolf, slamming into my side and shoving me into the far wall. I cursed as I hit the wall hard, feeling my arm break with the hit. I needed time to heal the wound. Time was one thing I had none of and without Layla, I was unable to focus on my wounds. My neck was bleeding at a rapid pace, and now I was with a broken arm. I could feel faintness creeping in, but
