Marly POV “No fucking way!” Carson replied angrily, turning away from the Rogue King. “He has no leverage. Let’s get the fuck out of here,” Carson said, taking my hand to pull me away from the scene in front of me. The King and Queen start to turn away from the Rogue King as well, effectively dismissing him. “Do not turn your backs on me!!!” the Rogue King raged. “They are alive!” he yelled as he gestured for someone beyond the diner. As we stood there watching the blacked-out SUV pull up to the door, there was a commotion as the Rogues jumped out dragging someone from the vehicle. I felt Carson tense beside me. We could not see the face of the man pulled from the vehicle, but it seemed as though Carson might recognize him. Carson released my hand as he moved to exit the diner. “Not so fast Lycan Alpha,” the Rogue King stated, stopping Carson in his tracks. Carson turned to look at the Rogue King, “I will n
Carson POV “Are they really gone?” the Rogue King asked. “Of course they are gone. I was there when we buried them,” I replied bitterly. The Rogue King chuckled, “Lots of things can be faked. Look at the death of your first mate … fake,” he taunted, as I bristled at his words. “I bet you were there for her burial as well?” he questioned. I took a step towards him, growling as I wanted to rip his head off. Jeff took a step forward to stop me and the Rogue King’s men stepped forward to block me. “Be careful, Lycan Alpha, I have snipers positioned all around us. One wrong step and my men will protect me,” the Rogue King cautioned. “And this time, your little mate will not be able to save you,” he added, as my face blazed with anger. I felt Marly’s hand on my arm, and I realized she was trembling in fear. “Why did you want us here?” I demanded, tired of this charade. “There are many reasons I wanted to meet. The primary on
Marly POV We had convinced Carson to stay at the hospital and gather his strength for whatever was to come today. I stayed with him, and we slept in each other’s arms for the first time in what felt like a month. It had not been that long, but being away from Carson for any amount of time would always feel like forever. I could feel the tension rising in the vehicle we were driving in. Alex was driving with us, and was staring out the window, with his own thoughts. I had not had much of an opportunity to speak with Alex, but I knew I did not want to lose him. He had already grown to be important to me and the King and Queen. Carson held my hand as he drove us towards the diner the Rogue King had referenced. Jeff and Sarah were in the car behind us, with additional warriors. And the King and Queen were in their own vehicle with their own warriors. We were surrounded by warriors in the front and the back of our convoy.
Marly POV With nerves racing in my stomach, I slowly reached out to take the phone. Quickly, I hit speaker so everybody could hear the conversation. “Hello?” I asked. “Marly, Marly, Marly … why did you leave so suddenly?” the Rogue King asked. I refused to be baited by him, “What do you want?” I demanded. He chuckled, “Is everyone enjoying listening to your defiance? Hello, everyone,” he replied, arrogantly. I looked to Carson who was sitting there, listening intently. “And you took my favorite son,” he taunted as the King stiffened, ready to explode. I held up my hand, not wanting him to react to the Rogue King’s words. “What do you want?” I asked again. “Well of course, I want you, Marly … and Alex,” he replied. “You cannot have us,” I replied, sounding more confident than I felt inside. “Tsk, tsk, Marly. You know that when I want something, I always get it. Isn’t that right, Alex?” he asked softly.
Marly POV When I had entered Carson’s body, I immediately went to his lungs. I could see the infection swarming, like it was alive in his lungs. I immediately attacked it the only way I knew how, head on. There was a lot of poison sitting there, just waiting to get worse. I knew immediately that if I did not do something now, he would not get better quickly. In fact, I worried it might get worse. I went to work with my healing energy, clearing all that I could see within both lungs. I heard Carson call for me, and I ignored him as best I could. I knew there was one more spot of silver to be cleared as well and I immediately made my way towards his abdomen. I could see how the silver had wrapped itself around his stomach. He must be in so much pain, yet he had not once complained. I cleared the last parts of the silver, feeling stronger than I usually did after a healing session. I slipped from Carson’s body, and the next
Carson POV My heart stopped, “What?” I asked, seeking clarification. “We are not true mates,” she said, tears continuing to stream down her face. Rage filled me. This could not be the case. I was crazy in love with Marly. I felt sparks every time we touched. I could not wrap my head around what I was hearing. “That is not possible, sweetheart,” I said trying to reassure her. “I know what I saw,” she replied, angrily. “I do not doubt your talents; I am simply saying I do not believe they could make our bond this strong, if it was just magic,” I replied, in a soothing tone. She looked up at me, “Do you think so?” she questioned, needing reassurance. “I know so,” I said, pulling her into my arms. I could see the King and Queen frowning, like they believed something else, but I shook my head giving a subtle gesture that they not contradict what I had said to assure Marly. “What we need to do is go and see the bastard and
