Everyone’s eyes were on me, and I hugged myself under the immense weight of it. “Why would the Lycan invite you to lunch,” Fiona demanded, her eyes blazing. The word ‘you’ dripped with disdain.

“I…” I started. I glanced over at Fiona. She was beyond furious. I didn’t want to upset her even more than she already was. And the lycan? Did he want everyone to know what happened? If I said too much it might make him angry at me too. He seemed as capable, if not more, of violence and pain as Fiona.

“I…” I started again, but still had no idea what to say.

The Lycan’s man cleared his throat. “Why the lycan wants to see someone is none of your concern,” he told Fiona then turned his attention to my uncle. “After meeting Miss Shelia last night, he’s become interested in her.” Now he moved his eyes to Fiona then back to my uncle. “Is that a problem for you? Should I tell him you are refusing to allow Miss Sheila to join him?”
