LOGINSierra's POV
I headed towards the dressing room with my sister to get my hair and make up done. As I was almost done, my father entered the room."Are you not done yet, we need to go, people are already arriving there"He said angrily.
"We are done, just give us a few minutes we will come join you"I told him.
"We are done"my stylist said few minutes after my father left.
"You look really pretty "my sister said to meI looked into the mirror and I looked like a goddess,my dark under eye gone,my puffy face now looking slimmer.
I wore a tight light pink silky dress with burgundy purse and heels to complement the dress.
I loved the way the dress accentuated my thick body. The dress was tight and outlined my shape. But I just did not like the fact that I was dressed so beautifully just so a man I do not know can take a liking to me.
"Thank you" I said to the stylist and she smiled back at me.
My sister and I went downstairs to join my father and mother in the car as the engagement was not been held at our house. "You will come in the next car with your mother, your sister and I have some things to talk about"my father said to my sister Penelope as she was about to enter the car my father was in immediately after I entered and locked the door. "Move". He told Samuel, our driver."Is the engagement party happening at their house?"I asked him few minutes into our ride.
"No, it's at their event center" he said to me.
"Event center, why??? I thought it was just between our families" I asked him.
"Lucas is the newly appointed Don and the members of the syndicate must be there on his wedding to show their loyalty to him but he said that he does not need a crowd for his wedding so we can only make the engagement big" he explained to me. "And upon saying that,I need you to cuddle up to him,he is our ticket out of being viewed as the weakest amongst the five families and I do not want any mistake from you today, you are my daughter, you should make no mistake,is that clear?"he asked me with a threat hanging over the question.Of course I have to do as he says ,lest he ships Penelope off also.
"Yes "I told him.
"Good" he said as he turned away from me. I do not want my sister to be shipped away the same way I'm been shipped away,so the engagement must be perfect,I must make Lucas Luciano interested in me. I said in my mind. I took my earbud, connected it to my phone and started listening to music.Music is like my go to anytime I am in a situation I can't deal with.
After about a while, my father tapped my forearm looked at me almost with care mixed with pity in his eyes and said "I know that this is not what you want, but life does not always go how we want it,so I want you to make the best out of your situation " That was the first time I saw my father look at me with emotion for about seven years. We used to be so close when I was a child but he just started withdrawing from me until a stranger replaced my father for me. "I have tried everything I can to save our businesses but it just wasn't working, only an alias with another family can save the company. I didn't want to have to choose between my daughter's happiness and the company but I didn't have a choice,I'm sorry. And it's really good for us that it is the leader of the syndicate you are getting married to. I know you and your mother are worried but you will be taken care of,I have made arrangements"he said. "Thank you father "I said to him. I was about to leave the car when he spoke up again. "You know,he choose you" he said "What?"I asked confusedly. "He chose you himself. When Vincent called me ,he told me that Lucas choose to marry you,I don't know what you did but whatever you did, keep doing it because the more he is head over heels for you,the better for us"he said excitedly. "Ok" I said to him. I felt utterly disgusted by him. I thought he felt sorry for what he had done turns out he just want to continue using me. "And" he talked again as I was about to open the door "you wait for the driver to come open the door for you" he said with a smile and got off.He must have felt happy with himself knowing he's gotten everything under control Unbeknownst to him that I never even talked to Lucas Luciano,I only saw the man from afar. He must have been given a list of random ladies from the families and he chose me.
I got out of the car immediately the door was opened. I stood outside the venue for about three minutes before my mother and sister arrived.
My mother's face looked so gloomy "Mother, smile, you know all attention will be on us tonight, you cannot go around wearing this face,I will be fine do not worry about me, besides I'm not going to be staying with him as of today,we still have days to figure everything out, let's just get through today" I told her.
"Okay baby"she said.
"You guys go inside,I will be right behind you"I said to them.
I breathed in and out"this will all be over in five hours at most,I can get through it"I said to myself as I took a step in.
SIERRA POV Three days had passed since my conversation with Lucas. Three days since I walked out of his office feeling like my entire understanding of my father had been ripped apart. I still hadn’t completely recovered from it. I had barely spoken to my father since then. Not that he wanted to speak to me except it had to do with the wedding. Not because I hated him. That was the confusing part. I didn’t hate him. I was angry. Hurt. Disappointed. But somewhere underneath all of that, there I am still the little girl who remembered him holding her hand while crossing the street. The little girl who used to believe her father could do no wrong. The little girl whose her father was always the hero. Maybe that was why his betrayal hurt so much.
LUCAS POV Three days had passed since Sierra came to my office. Three days since I had watched the realization of what her father had done settle across her face. I should have forgotten about it. But I couldn’t. Instead, I found myself thinking about her more than I cared to admit. Not because I felt sorry for her. At least, that was what I told myself. I had seen plenty of people make deals they regretted some didn’t regret. I had seen fathers sacrifice sons, brothers betray brothers, and men sell their closest friends for money. Edward was no different. He had simply found a different currency. His daughter. I sat behind my desk, staring at the report in front of me. The warehouse had been quiet for the last two days. Too quiet. No unusual mo
LUCAS POV A few seconds later, the door opened again. And Sierra walked into the room. My eyes moved over her before I could stop them. She wore a top and trouser. The top hugged her body perfectly, following the curve of her waist and the trouser highlighting the shape of her hips. It was elegant, but far more revealing than necessary for a visit to my office. The fabric clung to her in all the right places, drawing attention to every curve she seemed completely unaware she was displaying. I tried to look away. I failed. My gaze lingered longer than it should have, tracing the way the dress shaped her figure before slowly moving back to her face. I couldn’t take my eyes off her. So she had finally decided to do what her father asked of her. He had sent her here to seduce me and apparently not subtle ab
LUCAS POVThe report didn't make sense. The numbers didn’t make sense.I stared at the report spread across my desk, my fingers tapping slowly against the polished wood.Three shipments. All through the same routes.Three different dates.Yet whoever was watching them had made the same mistake. They had followed the same pattern. My eyes narrowed.I picked up the first report and read it again. The shipment had left the southern warehouse at 11:40 p.m.It was supposed to go through the western warehouse but it was being followed so I changed the route. It was supposed to reach the harbor by 2:00 a.m.It never did.It was an hour late. The second shipment had followed almost the exact same route two weeks later. And the third…The third had been almost two hours late. Someone was studying my shipment patterns. That wasn’t unusual. In my world, people were always watching.Competitors wanted information. Enemies wanted weaknesses. Men who wanted what belonged to me were constantly s
SIERRA POV “Yes.” His answer came so quickly and coldly that it hurt even more. I looked at him. There wasn’t even a hint of regret in his eyes. “And that is why you will do everything I ask of you,” he added. I stared at him for a long moment. I wanted to scream. I wanted to tell him that I wasn’t a property. Neither his nor my father’s. That I wasn’t something to sell and be bought. That Lucas had no right to own me. But then I remembered the man he had killed. I remembered exactly what Lucas was capable of.
SIERRA POV “I told you before, my father asked me to come,” I said smugly. Lucas stared at me for a few seconds, his expression unreadable. Then his jaw tightened. “Why don’t you drop that bullshit?” My smugness immediately disappeared. “You are here because your father wants to use you to control me,” he said, his voice low and serious. “But that wouldn’t work.” I swallowed. “So…” He leaned back slightly, his eyes never leaving mine. “DO NOT LIE TO ME and tell me what you know about it.” The look on his face made something inside me freeze. For a brief moment, I was no longer sitting across from Lucas. I was back at the Lucchese wedding ceremony. Back to the night I had witnessed him kill a man at a ceremony. The scream of the man he stabbed with a cutlery.
