SLOANE.

"Are you out of your mind?! Why would you agree to such a thing?" I yelled and he shot me a deadly glare, I heard his gaze unyielding.

"It was the only way," He claimed.

"Who the fuck are they going to wed?" I demanded even though I already knew.

"I only have one daughter, and she's right in front of me" He replied, I chuckled in anger and picked up the expensive china vase at the side of his room, I hurled the vase and it crashed on the wall at the other side of the room shattering into pieces.

"Control yourself, Sloane, this isn't the time for childish tantrums" He scolded and I glowered at him, the urge to strangle him overwhelmed me and I blinked, snapping out of that thought.

Although I still kept it at the back of my mind.

"Who am I getting married to?" I asked ignoring the tight sensation in my throat, the Sokolovs only have one son and it's that bastard unless there is something else perhaps a cousin-

"Chase Sokolov, he consented to the union" He replied and that was all I needed to hear, I stormed out of the room ignoring my father calling after me, if he gets another cardiac arrest I pray he dies this time.

Fucking traitor.

I never expected this from him, he hates the Russians just as much as I hate them.

Why did he agree to this?

I'm supposed to be the one to take over after his death so why would he want to ship me off with the slightest opportunity he got, is he planning to make Javier take over?

I will kill him and Javier if that's the case, I won't be used to calling a truce and I'm not chaining myself to an animal like Chase.

My phone vibrated in my pocket as I climbed down the stairs, I searched the pocket of my jacket bringing out my phone.

Javier had sent a text with the location of the Paradise hotel, and he was smart enough to add a blueprint of the building.

My lips stretched into a smirk.

All the anger was pumping me up to act and this is just what I needed. I made a quick stop at my armory before leaving, I got on my bike and drove to the location instantly. It was a bit further than I thought.

I stopped in front of a cafe a few blocks away from the Paradise Hotel, the fancy massive building lights up the street in a way that draws all the attention to the hotel.

I took off my jacket and wore a facemask, I strode towards the hotel keeping my strides slow and calculated, the traveling bag in my left hand weighed a ton but I had all the necessary things I needed inside. The guard outside the gate was discussing and they paused when they saw me.

"I was told this hotel provides the best services, can I book a room?" I asked, faking a Russian accent and they exchanged looks.

"We are sorry Miss, the hotel is fully booked" One of them replied gruffly, the other gave me a one over and I regret not wearing something expensive, they probably think I won't be able to afford the hotel.

I sighed and brought out my wallet taking the black card out. I waved it at them, "Now will you open the door and stop judging people based on their appearances" I raised my eyebrows as they bowed.

And that was how I got in, I entered the lobby and pretended to be waiting for my turn with the receptionist. I looked around counting the number of security guards, one by the elevator another in front of the door to the stairs and that was my target. Elevators may have cameras.

I walked past the queue and bumped into a man typing on his phone, he apologized and I bowed, keeping my mouth shut as I walked towards the stairs with the room card in my hand.

Too bad the guy was too busy to notice me slipping the room card out of his pocket.

I waved the card at the guard and he stepped out of the way but as I walked past him, he stopped me, I froze slowly reaching for the curved blade tucked in my pants.

"Why not use the elevators, Miss?" He asked in a thick Russian accent.

"Ugh no, I prefer the stairs, it's also good for exercise" I replied, keeping my fake Russian accent out, I can't risk him asking me a question I wouldn't be able to answer.

"Have you been checked?" He nodded at the traveling bag and I nodded.

"Of course, now if you will excuse me I had a long day and I need to rest" I dismissed and he stepped out of the way, I shut the door after me and replaced the friendly mask with a scowl.

He's suspicious of me and would probably go and ask if I was checked, in fifteen minutes he would come back for me so I need to move fast.

I unzipped the traveling bag beginning with the devices inside. I climbed up the stairs in haste as I fixed the explosives on the walls.

I was almost at the top when the door at the bottom burst open and I winked as the guard from earlier yelled in Russian pointing at me, I rushed to the door as they chased after me, a gunshot was fired and bullets whizzed past my head.

"Shit!" I stumbled but I balanced my stamina, getting to the door I opened it and found myself on the top floor.

I turned and found a camera, I flipped off whoever was watching, I ran towards the elevator as I saw some men in suits walking around.

I entered the elevator and pressed the bottom floor, unzipping the bag again I took out two Glocks.

Surprisingly when the elevator got down I didn't see anyone so I used the opportunity to make my way towards the exit, adrenaline spiked through me as I approached the men in the entrance. I flexed my fingers on the Glock in my waistband but to my surprise, they let me through.

I walked down the street to where I parked my bike wondering why that was so easy, I guess Chase isn't the big bad wolf everyone thought he was.

I removed the face mask and tossed it away, I reached for the remote in my jacket and pressed the red button.

"One, two, three, four..."

Boom!

The loud explosion shook the ground beneath my feet, and I chuckled before putting on my helmet.

"An eye for an eye," I mumbled and drove off immediately ignoring the screams of civilians passing by. The whole place was in disarray after the explosion and the cops will be here soon.

As I drove past Trinity Cove, I took the turn towards the South when I saw it coming.

A truck was driving at high speed towards me.

Before I could swivel off the road, the truck hit me and I bounced off my bike slamming on the hard ground with full force, a wailing sound escaped my lips as I hit my head and blacked out.

ChaseThe day was fresh. My body refused to acknowledge it. Each muscle screamed in protest every joint ached and every nerve flared as if torn apart and hastily stitched anew. My leg throbbed with a burning pain, rigid and swollen. My head pounded my chest ached and my shoulder throbbed in time with each heartbeat. Still beneath all the agony something acute and weighty lingered: the recollection of how narrowly I had almost lost her Sloane.Afterwards I sensed her.Sloane.She sat next to me, her hand lightly touching mine, an insistence that grounded me. A rush of relief overwhelmed me, tightening my chest and stinging my throat. I attempted to speak, to let her know I was conscious. The sound that emerged was a hoarse croak.“Sloane " I croaked, my tone. Strained from several days without speaking. She moved nearer, placing a kiss on my forehead. "You’re secure, " she murmured. "You’re at home.”I attempted to move, to lift myself up yet a sharp pain shot through my leg. Each moti

SLOANEI caught the door sliding open, the noise unmistakably purposeful. My gut dropped immediately, a fear winding inside me. I stood motionless in the living room, fingers clutching the table's rim as though it might keep me steady. The voice that came next squeezed my chest like a clamp. I didn't think I would hear it anytime soon. “Sloane…”It was him. My dad. Despite all I had been through the turmoil of weeks, the brush with death, the nightmares, the terror….I recognized that voice. The very voice that used to assure safety that never arrived was the one that disappeared when I required him most. The identical voice that had observed me. Nearly perished, at the hands of those he ought to have prevented.Initially I was stunned. Then anger took hold. My jaw tightened, my hands. My heart pounded so fiercely I feared it would explode.“Dad…" I murmured, my tone. Rough. "Why… why are you here?”He paused, his gaze flitting across the room like a trapped creature. "I… I ran into

SLOANEThe drive back was agonizing. I clutched Vadim’s arm as if it were the link holding me anchored to reality. Chase lay slouched next, to me his form weak, pale and almost motionless. Each bump along the way caused me to flinch, fearful that another jolt would cause him to bleed quickly and lose even more blood. I couldn’t avert my gaze from him. The dried blood staining his clothes, the rise and fall of his chest, with every shallow breath all caused my stomach to knot up in ways I never thought possible.Vadim was driving silently, his jaw clenched, eyes flicking repeatedly to the rearview mirror scanning the roads. He remained quiet. His anxiety revealed that he was working out every detail: the way home, the most secure path, the exact distance, to the guest room where he was certain Chase would need to be placed. I concentrated on my breathing attempting to soothe the thoughts that incessantly shouted: He’s injured he might not survive it’s entirely my responsibility, everyt

SLOANEThe door slammed open with such force that the reverberation dislodged dust from the ceiling. My whole body flinched. For a moment I feared Xavier had summoned reinforcements that this was the instant everything tumbled deeper into chaos. However I noticed him.Chase.He remained steady in the doorway, his chest heaving in gasps, a firearm held with both hands though his arms shook. His eyes fiercely aflame fixed on Xavier as if blaming him for every injury he bore. His garments were ripped, smeared with blood and fresh marks dirt caking his jaw and bruises shadowing his cheekbone. He appeared worn out, beaten and barely standing. But he was alive. Alive and here.Relief overwhelmed me quickly and forcefully that it nearly caused pain. It shattered something within me. My lungs at last expanded with air that had been held captive in my chest, for hours. My eyesight blurred as a throbbing radiated through the middle of my ribs. Chase located me. He succeeded. Somehow despite eve

CHASEIt's morning Sloane hasn't arrived yet Kazmir is getting on my nerves and Vadim? Vadim is firm. Forbids me from moving due to my leg. The sunlight filtering through the drapes made the room seem bright and overly serene as if the world failed to grasp that everything inside me was ablaze. I forced myself to sit up disregarding the intense fiery pain radiating down my thigh. Pain was irrelevant. Breathing hardly mattered. The sole important fact was that Sloane wasn’t present. Before my feet touched the floor my hands were already clenching into fists. I despised this house more than before. It felt off without her presence. Vacant. Too silent. Her absence was palpable, in the walls the air and the foolish furniture that still carried the scent of her shampoo.

SLOANEI kept blinking until the faint light became clear. I lay on the ground on my back, against a beam that reeked of mildew. My hands were bound behind me with rope that chafed my skin whenever I took a deep breath.Perfect.I moved slightly to check the knot's firmness. It was too secure to come undone. Not so tight as to be impossible. Then I noticed footsteps—annoyed—approaching from the left side of the room.Xavier.I noticed the noise of his breathing, laying eyes on him. A brief staccato rhythm, as if he was struggling with his mind and falling behind. He emerged from behind a workbench massaging the bridge of his nose. His jaw was tightly clenched. I feared it might shatter under the strain.I swallowed hard. "I figured I’d be gone by now.”His head snapped in my direction. The glare he shot at me might have stripped paint.I grinned regardless.“Honestly it’s somewhat disappointing " I remarked. "If you’re going to abduct someone you ought to be, at least, efficient.”His
