SLOANE.

"Are you out of your mind?! Why would you agree to such a thing?" I yelled and he shot me a deadly glare, I heard his gaze unyielding.

"It was the only way," He claimed.

"Who the fuck are they going to wed?" I demanded even though I already knew.

"I only have one daughter, and she's right in front of me" He replied, I chuckled in anger and picked up the expensive china vase at the side of his room, I hurled the vase and it crashed on the wall at the other side of the room shattering into pieces.

"Control yourself, Sloane, this isn't the time for childish tantrums" He scolded and I glowered at him, the urge to strangle him overwhelmed me and I blinked, snapping out of that thought.

Although I still kept it at the back of my mind.

"Who am I getting married to?" I asked ignoring the tight sensation in my throat, the Sokolovs only have one son and it's that bastard unless there is something else perhaps a cousin-

"Chase Sokolov, he consented to the union" He replied and that was all I needed to hear, I stormed out of the room ignoring my father calling after me, if he gets another cardiac arrest I pray he dies this time.

Fucking traitor.

I never expected this from him, he hates the Russians just as much as I hate them.

Why did he agree to this?

I'm supposed to be the one to take over after his death so why would he want to ship me off with the slightest opportunity he got, is he planning to make Javier take over?

I will kill him and Javier if that's the case, I won't be used to calling a truce and I'm not chaining myself to an animal like Chase.

My phone vibrated in my pocket as I climbed down the stairs, I searched the pocket of my jacket bringing out my phone.

Javier had sent a text with the location of the Paradise hotel, and he was smart enough to add a blueprint of the building.

My lips stretched into a smirk.

All the anger was pumping me up to act and this is just what I needed. I made a quick stop at my armory before leaving, I got on my bike and drove to the location instantly. It was a bit further than I thought.

I stopped in front of a cafe a few blocks away from the Paradise Hotel, the fancy massive building lights up the street in a way that draws all the attention to the hotel.

I took off my jacket and wore a facemask, I strode towards the hotel keeping my strides slow and calculated, the traveling bag in my left hand weighed a ton but I had all the necessary things I needed inside. The guard outside the gate was discussing and they paused when they saw me.

"I was told this hotel provides the best services, can I book a room?" I asked, faking a Russian accent and they exchanged looks.

"We are sorry Miss, the hotel is fully booked" One of them replied gruffly, the other gave me a one over and I regret not wearing something expensive, they probably think I won't be able to afford the hotel.

I sighed and brought out my wallet taking the black card out. I waved it at them, "Now will you open the door and stop judging people based on their appearances" I raised my eyebrows as they bowed.

And that was how I got in, I entered the lobby and pretended to be waiting for my turn with the receptionist. I looked around counting the number of security guards, one by the elevator another in front of the door to the stairs and that was my target. Elevators may have cameras.

I walked past the queue and bumped into a man typing on his phone, he apologized and I bowed, keeping my mouth shut as I walked towards the stairs with the room card in my hand.

Too bad the guy was too busy to notice me slipping the room card out of his pocket.

I waved the card at the guard and he stepped out of the way but as I walked past him, he stopped me, I froze slowly reaching for the curved blade tucked in my pants.

"Why not use the elevators, Miss?" He asked in a thick Russian accent.

"Ugh no, I prefer the stairs, it's also good for exercise" I replied, keeping my fake Russian accent out, I can't risk him asking me a question I wouldn't be able to answer.

"Have you been checked?" He nodded at the traveling bag and I nodded.

"Of course, now if you will excuse me I had a long day and I need to rest" I dismissed and he stepped out of the way, I shut the door after me and replaced the friendly mask with a scowl.

He's suspicious of me and would probably go and ask if I was checked, in fifteen minutes he would come back for me so I need to move fast.

I unzipped the traveling bag beginning with the devices inside. I climbed up the stairs in haste as I fixed the explosives on the walls.

I was almost at the top when the door at the bottom burst open and I winked as the guard from earlier yelled in Russian pointing at me, I rushed to the door as they chased after me, a gunshot was fired and bullets whizzed past my head.

"Shit!" I stumbled but I balanced my stamina, getting to the door I opened it and found myself on the top floor.

I turned and found a camera, I flipped off whoever was watching, I ran towards the elevator as I saw some men in suits walking around.

I entered the elevator and pressed the bottom floor, unzipping the bag again I took out two Glocks.

Surprisingly when the elevator got down I didn't see anyone so I used the opportunity to make my way towards the exit, adrenaline spiked through me as I approached the men in the entrance. I flexed my fingers on the Glock in my waistband but to my surprise, they let me through.

I walked down the street to where I parked my bike wondering why that was so easy, I guess Chase isn't the big bad wolf everyone thought he was.

I removed the face mask and tossed it away, I reached for the remote in my jacket and pressed the red button.

"One, two, three, four..."

Boom!

The loud explosion shook the ground beneath my feet, and I chuckled before putting on my helmet.

"An eye for an eye," I mumbled and drove off immediately ignoring the screams of civilians passing by. The whole place was in disarray after the explosion and the cops will be here soon.

As I drove past Trinity Cove, I took the turn towards the South when I saw it coming.

A truck was driving at high speed towards me.

Before I could swivel off the road, the truck hit me and I bounced off my bike slamming on the hard ground with full force, a wailing sound escaped my lips as I hit my head and blacked out.

SLOANEI hate how he acts sometimes. I really hate it. He's pulling me, and I don't even know if there are actually people coming or if he's just being paranoid, but that doesn't mean he can drag me around.I can hear it, though. The cars are getting closer and louder. My brain finally catches up.He is in trouble and we have to leave immediately, but he doesn’t get into trouble. This sounded serious. "No." I dragged my hand back, but his grip was strong. "Sloane, we don't have time…." He yelled."I said no." I pulled harder, and I got free. "I'm not going with you."I turned around, and he looked at me like I'd stabbed him. "What?""I'm not going," I said with my voice shaking. I was angry and scared. "You want to run? Fine. But I'm staying.""Sloane, they're coming. They'll—" he started saying something else, but I cut him off."I don't care." I meant it, maybe because everything was moving too fast. "You humiliated me last night, you made me feel like nothing. So why should I g

CHASEI heard the vibration. My phone didn't stop buzzing—like a bee trapped somewhere. It pulled me out of—well, I wasn't even sleeping for it to pull me out of anything.I was thinking about Sloane all night, and how I ruined it. I grabbed my phone and realized it was Vadim. God. "What," I said, my voice was hoarse. "They know." His voice sounded wrong. Too tight, strained. "Mark's people. They found out about the murder."I sat up fast. The room spun a little. "What?""They know you killed him. That it wasn't the Volkovs like we said." He was breathing weird, shallow and quick. "They hit one of our warehouses. Killed some of my guys. This is—Chase, this is bad."Mark. Shit. My cousin Mark who I killed because—because my father told me to. I made it look like Volkov work so there wouldn't be family drama.Guess that didn't work."How many dead?" I was already moving, getting out of bed."Three. Maybe four." He paused, and I could hear voices in the background. "They left a messa

SLOANEI barely made it to my room. I could feel it building the whole way up the stairs—that hot tightness in my throat, pressure behind my eyes. I held it together till the door shut. Then I just cried. I sat on the bed like an idiot. Like some stupid girl who'd convinced herself things meant something they didn't. Over a guy who'd made it clear what this was. What I was. And I'd still gone and hoped for something different. The party. God. I spent all day on it. All day with Natalia cooking, decorating, planning. My hands still smell like garlic and ginger from those dumplings. The spring rolls. I drove across town for those. The good ones from Fifth Street. I timed it so they'd be warm. Had Natalia keep him busy while I set everything up. It made it special. What a joke. I should have known. I should have remembered the last time I tried getting into his world—asking to work with him, getting shut down, offered some bullshit desk job like I was a problem to manage. But that night

CHASEI finally got back home around six twenty five. I had my suspicions but I waved it off. The moment I saw the house being lit up like fucking Christmas when it was still months away- I should have known something was up. It felt like we were hosting something or someone. I ignored the thoughts because my head was somewhere else. And that somewhere else was one of my workers, Connor. I remember his face when I caught him, I can still feel my knuckles when I connected it to his jaw. I could still hear his lies and how pathetic they all sound, I had the evidence right in front of him and he tried to lie. It has been three months since he had been stealing from me, the goods, the deliveries that he took over half of the profit, diverting sales back into his own account. I had been so busy that I hadn’t noticed, it was all because of Sloane and because of the drama at hand with my father and Mark. I had been distracted to even see what was happening, it was happening right un

SLOANE. My days were the same, sometimes there was no difference. If I ever did write a biography of mine? I wonder what I would write, my days are always the same, the patterns are the same and the words? They may be different but they always mean the same. So most times I read books, I get lost in worlds where the words match something I had never experienced and something I might never experience. Right now I was in the library, it’s funny because I had never seen Chase there before, or even had his guards over here. I was reading a book, it was about two teenagers who fell in love and hid it from everyone, they had the perfect secret love and it was going well, until someone ruined it. A common friend but somehow they found themselves again, and I was in the chapter where he yearned for her so much that he travelled just to see her. The female main character was one that was quiet and reserved, she didn’t move with everyone, she was labeled but someone they found each other.

CHASE. “The meeting is in ten minutes, this document has all the details but I will be right there with you, it’s the client we travelled to see some weeks ago.” Vadim said as we walked into the new office, It was still in the outskirts of town, but there was a bigger room for meetings and what not. I hated how this was all moving fast. This time we have made better plans and how to adjust them properly. I rubbed my temples as I sat down, I gulped and signaled the guard at the door to get me a drink. “I hope this meeting isn’t going to be a fucking waste of time, he wants the goods? He needs to pay. Tell Gerald he needs to change his hand boys, they aren’t good at what they do. I have to pay cops all the time, it’s a hassle.” I complained, when the guard brought the drink, he wanted to pour it for me.“Leave it, I can handle myself.” I waved him off, I sat down at the edge of the long table; I had six guards in the room, two at each of the three doors, double doors.Vadim sat d
