Gianna

“I’m really not interested,” I said dismissively. “I don’t care about his money.”

Rossi’s expression didn’t falter. “I understand, but I must ensure these matters are handled properly. That’s all I’m here to do.”

“Plea…”I opened my mouth to protest, but Leo placed a hand on my shoulder and shook his head.

“Just listen to him, Gi. It won’t take long,” he said. I sighed and nodded, setting my fork aside.

“Fine,” I grimaced.

“We will let you guys be,” Amara muttered, glancing at Leo, who nodded.

Once Leo and Amara left the dining room, we settled into the living room. Caelian remained standing silently, watching, while Rossi took a seat across from me and placed a neat stack of papers on the coffee table.

“I’ll need Signor Caelian to stay as well,” Rossi added just as Caelian was starting to walk out.

“Me?” he frowned, and Rossi nodded. Caelian gave me a look before moving to sit beside me.

Rossi opened his briefcase and pulled out a thick stack of papers, the crisp rustle of the

Sharp at eight next evening, I waited for Gianna to meet me. I had, of course, booked a private dining room and was now waiting anxiously for her to show up. I don’t even know if what I was planning to do would work. What if it didn’t? This collaboration was my only access to Gianna for the time being. I felt nervous and anxious for the first time in a long time. The last time I felt this nervous was when Drago found me fighting in the streets and decided to place a bet on me.A bet that changed my entire life.“Signor,” I shook my head and turned to the door, and the manager stood outside, wearing that fake, polite smile. “I have Mrs. Baldocchi for you.”He moved aside and…there she stood. She wore a simple white dress that looked way too loose on her shrinking frame. And yet she was still gorgeous. Absolutely breathtaking.“Thank you,” Gianna murmured to the guy who walked away, shutting the door behind him. She glanced at me and I gave her a smile, walking over to pull out the chai

MaximusI watched as Gianna gave me a strained smile before walking out. Seeing her after almost six weeks was both a relief and a shock. For the past month, I have been trying to reach out to her, but it has been fruitless. She was gone.I couldn’t reach her by phone, or anyway. I visited her home, but it was left abandoned. She was not there. I had tried to talk to Leonardo, but he had simply dismissed me. That guy had an ego the size of a mountain, and it annoyed my guts, but I held back. Because he was Gianna’s brother and she loved him.But I knew Nico was gone. I made sure of it when I threatened to hurt Gianna. And from all the info I have received so far, he has been gone a long time now and was nowhere to be found. Even my men couldn’t find him, which was worrisome because my idea was to eliminate him once separating him from Gianna. I knew Nico well enough to be sure he wouldn’t leave by telling her the truth. He’d never want her to worry. Fool that he was, he’d rather make

Gianna“You don’t have to do this if you don’t want to,” Teresa muttered as the driver pulled into the parking lot of Bellavanti. It feels like an eternity since I was last here.“No, I need to do this,” I sighed. “I owe Maximus an explanation. That’s the least I can do, especially if I am to quit.”“Are you sure about that? This was your dream project,” Teressa asked, her face all constricted with sympathy for me.But I was getting used to that look now. And honestly, what could I expect? I was a knocked-up woman whose husband somehow disappeared. Not divorced…not widowed…just left alone. There was also a rage building inside me that I knew I needed to channel somehow. Because as much as I loved Nico and deep in my soul I knew there must be a reason why he left like that, I was pissed at him.Fucking pissed.“I…I don’t have anything left in me, Tess,” I whispered. “And whatever I do have, I want to pour into this little one inside me. Believe it or not, I am both the father and the

GiannaI finally dared to open the window, the cool night air rushing in and brushing against my skin. For weeks, I hadn’t let myself feel the world outside, hadn’t wanted it to touch me, but now it pressed in sharply, catching me off guard. My hand instinctively went to my belly, resting there as though holding onto something solid in the middle of all the emptiness.Above, the stars scattered across the sky, distant and indifferent, yet for the first time in weeks, I felt them noticing me back. It felt good to feel the fresh night breeze caress my face.“Wh…where are you?” I whispered to the silence, hoping he could listen to me.The idea of this little one growing up without ever even knowing his or her father was a terrifying thought I wasn’t ready to entertain yet. Fuck, I haven’t even been able to process that I was pregnant. I was distracted by a knock on the door, and I turned around to find Teresa peeking inside.“Can I come in?” she asked.“Of course, since when do you need

My breath caught. I turned to her, but Amara was already kneeling, brushing her fingers gently over the engraving. Her face softened and she smiled. “This is where I come,” she said quietly. “Whenever life becomes too much. This is my place.” Her gaze softened, carrying both grief and love. “I talk to him here…my first child, my little dot. I lost him years ago, when enemies tried to destroy Leonardo and me…the same way the Barbaro is trying to destroy Nico and you.”I didn’t know what to say. My mouth opened, but no words came. The ache in her voice was its own story, heavier than anything I could imagine. I remembered something like this happened but then the twins were born and it all faded into the background. Amara sat back on her heels, her gaze distant. “I felt empty, Gianna. Truly empty. Like someone had stolen the very soul from me. I didn’t want to eat, or sleep, or breathe. Leo tried so hard to pull me back, but I was gone. Lost in a darkness I didn’t even know existed ev
