last update Last Updated: 2021-10-17 18:42:34

Sofia jolted up from her bed at the sound of her alarm clock going off, she rubbed her eyes and sighed as she clicked the alarming ring off. She stretched her body for five minutes before swinging her body from the bed and straight to the floor. Sofia walked to her full-length mirror and examined her body, another scare added on her body from all her adventures. She hated that every time she needed to take a bath, she would have to look at her body.

This part of her was hidden, her emotions were hidden, Sofia only ever showed herself to one person and even that until this day felt like a mistake. He saw her at her weakest, and she never wanted anyone knowing her weakness. Sofia turned away from the mirror and walked into her bathroom. She turned on the tap and full her bathtub with warm water. She immediately stripped from her clothes and soaked her body into the tub.

The morning was the only time she could give herself therapy because the moment she stepped out of her room, that’s when time for herself would fly out of the window and she would return to her usual robot and strict self. Sofia finished her bath and dressed in all black body suit and walked out of her room, straight into the corridor. Her black badge with gold lines shinned brightly as she continued to walk down the corridor until she reached the doors of the cafeteria and stood still, watching the people move around, eat food, and talk to each other.

“Grim reaper.” Sofia said as she placed her hand on the door scanner.

“Access granted.’ A voice responded and the doors opened for Sofia. She stepped inside the cafeteria and instantly all eyes were on her, the room grew quiet as she walked by to pick up a tray for food. Sofia took her food and moved to seat with her crew, that’s when everyone returned to their conversation and food.

“Captain, you are late today.” Alex said as he munched on the food on his plate.

“I don’t remember owing you anything Alex, is there something you wanted from me?” Sofia asked him as she stopped to stare at him dead in the face.

“Who put a stick up your ass Sofia?” Alexia asked, the only person to ever call Sofia by her name and speak to her freely since her appointment as captain seven years ago.

“Okay, can we not get into a heated argument this time of the day?” Becca spoke up as she raised her arms in the air as a sign to surrender.

‘I agree with Becca, can we please keep the reputation that we all get along well.” O’Brian interjected.

“We don’t need to keep up anything because we already get along well together. I just can’t say the same about Alexia.” Ronda said as she snorted in irritation.

“Are we going to start it here because I’m reader to take you on baggage.” Alexia  said angrily.

‘Why don’t you all quiet down, play nice and resume all your frustration on the training grounds? I am trying to eat my food and all your voices are drowning the taste of my food.” Sofia said looking at them in complete irritation.

“Now that’s something I can agree with.” Wyatt finally spoke up and Mica nodded besides him in agreement. The table grew quiet, and everyone returned to eating their breakfast. At that moment the doors to the cafeteria opened and the Elite guards stood at the door with a grace-pad in hand.

“An announcement, all please pay attention.” One of the guards said as he waited for every to stay still so he can speak. People in the cafeteria finally stopped eating, turned to give the guards their full attention.

“Grim reaper, captain of the Death Squad you are to meet Master Carlos at 10:am.” The guard said as he slide his finger across the pad and spoke again.

‘Blade runner, captain of the Killer Squad you are to meet Master Carlos at 11:am.” Blade runner rolled his eyes and looked away from the guard speaking.

“Terminator, captain of the Blood Squad you are to meet Master Carlos at 12:00pm.” Terminator nodded with a smile on her face looking rather happy to see the Master.

“Extinguisher, captain of the War Squad you are to meet Master Carlos at 13:00pm.” The guard finally finished and put the grace-pad on his side, they saluted and walked out of the cafeteria.

Sofia sighed clearly annoyed that they were being summoned again, she wasn’t in the mood to exchange words with that annoying old man but it’s not like she had a choice.

“I’ll be off now, remember that we meet at the training grounds in one hour, make sure none of you are late or they will be hell to pay for.” Sofia said as she stood from her seat and looked at them as they all nodded in agreement besides Alexia. She decided that she was not going to deal with her attitude now, but she would surely punish her cockiness later.

Sofia continued to walk away, leaving her tray on the counter, and walking out of the cafeteria and the direction straight to Master Carlos’ office. She reached the office, knocked once, and didn’t wait for a response and she opened his door and walked in.

“Well, why don’t you make yourself at home?” Master Carlos said as he took a sip of his whiskey.

“Don’t you think it is a little too early for alcohol?” Sofia asked, taking a seat in front of Master Carlos.

“There is never a better time drink alcohol, for me I gave even drink alcohol in my sleep.”

“What do you want Carlos?” Sofia questioned.

“You know that you and Alexia have very funny characters. Only you two dare to speak to me in such a manner.” Master Carlos said and took another sip before putting the glass back on the table.

“It is what it is don’t you think? I’ll ask you again, what you want? Sofia asked again, getting impatient with all the suspense.

“The higher ups have a big job that needs to be taken care off, so we are evaluating the captain’s to see which time has the best fit for the job.”

“They are always demanding something.” Sofia said looking at Master Carlos to continue.

“I personally think you guys will make it.” Master Carlos said with confidence.

“What fish do we have to fry Carlos?”

“The one and only, notorious Mafia Don in Orthus. Don Russo.” Master Carlos said with a hint of glitter in his eyes.

Kara sighed because she knew that planning the perfect plan will be hell and might take weeks because they will be going up against an entire Mafia, “Since were done I’ll be off.” Kara said and left Carlos in the room with his words and thoughts.

Sofia stood alone in the communications room long after everyone else had cleared out.The space was dim, lit only by the glow of monitors and the faint reflection of her own face in the glass. On every screen, fragments of the Council’s broadcast looped endlessly—her name, her image, her sentence. Traitor. Target. Threat. She had spent most of her life erasing herself, moving silently, leaving nothing behind but bodies and questions. The Council had believed that silence was her nature. They were wrong.Behind her, the door opened quietly.Russo entered without announcement, his presence steady, unhurried. ‘If you do this,’ he said calmly, ‘there’s no reclaiming anonymity.’

  • The Mafia's Assassin (Don Russo)   CHAPTER 56 – Branded

The announcement did not come with sirens or gunfire. It came quietly. That was how the Council always operated when they wanted fear to seep into the bones rather than explode on impact. By the time the world realised something had changed, the damage would already be done.Sofia felt it first as a disruption in the digital air.Russo’s estate buzzed with low-level activity—comms operators murmuring, screens flickering as encrypted channels lit up one after another. She stood near the central operations table, arms folded, posture calm despite the tension tightening her spine.Alex stood beside her now, a faint bruise darkening his jaw, his eyes sharp and restless as he scanned incoming data. He hadn’t asked questions

  • The Mafia's Assassin (Don Russo)   CHAPTER 55 – When the Board Shatters

The alarms at the Council complex did not stop when Alex crossed the outer gates. They followed him into the city like a warning siren meant for anyone still loyal enough to listen.By the time he reached the underground transit tunnel, his face was slick with sweat, lungs burning, but his mind was terrifyingly clear. There was no going back now. Whatever fragile protection his rank had once afforded him was gone. Madam Lee would not hesitate to brand him a traitor, and the Council would not hesitate to erase him.Alex disappeared into the service tunnels, shedding his jacket, dumping his weapon into a drainage shaft, and becoming anonymous by necessity. Every step was calculated, every turn deliberate. Survival had always been part of the training. Tonight, it was personal.A

  • The Mafia's Assassin (Don Russo)   CHAPTER 54 – The Price of Loyalty

Alex had always believed that truth revealed itself eventually. You just had to dig long enough. The safehouse was quiet except for the soft hum of the servers lining the walls. Screens glowed with fragments of data—mission logs, intercepted transmissions, corrupted Council files slowly being stitched back together. Alex sat at the centre of it all, eyes bloodshot, jaw tight, his body running on caffeine and stubborn refusal to stop. The deeper he dug, the uglier it became.Timelines didn’t match. Casualty reports had been altered. Entire operations had been erased from record, their participants listed as KIA when Alex knew they had never returned to base at all. And always, like a fingerprint pressed into wet cement, one name appeared at the edge of every anomaly.

  • The Mafia's Assassin (Don Russo)   CHAPTER 53 – A Choice, Not a Cage

Sofia had always believed that choice was an illusion. The Council taught that obedience was survival. That questioning orders was weakness. That loyalty was measured by how quickly you pulled the trigger when told to. For years, she had mistaken endurance for freedom, discipline for purpose.Standing now in Don Russo’s study, she understood how wrong she had been. The room was quiet, the low hum of the city filtering in through the tall windows behind him. Russo stood near his desk, jacket discarded, sleeves rolled up in a way that suggested this was not a negotiation he intended to dominate. He watched her closely, not like prey, not like property—but like an equal weighing another.Damian lingered near the door, deliberately silent.

  • The Mafia's Assassin (Don Russo)   CHAPTER 52 – The Council Does Not Forgive

The Council chamber was never silent by accident.Every echo, every pause, every measured breath was calculated to intimidate, to remind those within its walls that power did not need to shout. It simply waited. Tonight, that silence felt brittle, stretched thin by impatience and fear.Madam Lee stood at the centre of the room, hands clasped behind her back, spine straight, chin lifted. She had perfected the posture years ago—confidence without arrogance, loyalty without submission. It had served her well.Until now.‘Your report is incomplete,’ one of the Council members said, voice distorted by the modulation field that concealed identity. ‘You assured us the mission would be neutralised.’Madam Lee incli
