[Sinclair]

I read the clause he pointed out. It was only one sentence, but it ruined all the plans I had carefully laid out. Crazy. I sacrificed so much for the handover, and it was all for nothing? I couldn't even get angry at Mason and his team over such a minor detail.

"I'm sorry I didn't find it sooner. I admit I was wrong for not reading the agreement carefully. I’ll do everything I can to ensure the transfer of ownership of SW Group doesn’t get delayed too long,” Mason said.

“I’m at fault as well. I knew about that requirement, but I forgot it. I even chose someone who isn’t a resident of this city to be the new owner.” I closed the file. “Have a sit. I’ll contact Giovanni.”

“No need.” Someone opened the meeting room door. “I’m here.”

I turned to Giovanni. He was smiling broadly at the doorway. I stood up and shook his hand. “We have a problem.”

“I’d be lying if I said I was surprised,” he said casually.

I turned to Mason. The man understood my meaning and approached Giovanni. “T

[Darcy]I forced myself to open my eyes when I heard the voice of a baby crying. It was dark around me, but I didn't turn on the light. I knew where the closet was. The light turned on automatically, making it easier for me to grab some clothes and a coat.I slowly opened the bedroom door and closed it. I hurried to Keane's room. His loud voice could wake Dashiell. So, I closed the door quickly. Olivia sighed with relief when she saw me.“Keane, it’s Mommy. Be quiet, okay, sweetie? Are you hungry?” I picked him up and sat on the couch. After positioning him on my lap, I breastfed him. The baby quieted down. I turned to Olivia and glanced at the connecting door. The young woman needed rest. Keane wouldn't want to leave me. He didn't need his nanny.I woke up lying on the couch. My son was in his crib. He was giggling while playing with his stuffed toy. I sat up and stretched my body. Faintly, I heard a dog barking in the distance.I glanced at the wall clock. Sinclair was about to leave

  • The Mafia's Frozen Bride   139|Undeniable Evidence

[Sinclair]Keane's return changed Darcy. She spoke to me frankly. Her demeanor was more relaxed. I didn't see the usual doubt or worry on her face. She even initiated an intimate encounter with me.The change was both a relief and a cause for concern. That woman was easily swayed when something triggered her. Darcy agreed to marry me after I promised to protect her parents in prison, but the truth about Dashiell made her want to leave me.The same thing could happen again. Keane staying with us changed her mind about divorce. If something terrible made her angry with me, would she file for divorce? What would happen to me and Dashiell if Darcy and Keane left our lives?“Important things? What important things do we need to discuss?” Darcy asked.“Did Cullen tell you if he left a will?” I looked at her.“We never talked about wills. We were too young to think about death,” Darcy said. “Besides, Cullen would have told me if he made one.”“My people found the will in the safe in your hou

I carefully washed my hair and down to my feet in the bathroom. Although I didn't do any special skin or facial treatments, I was satisfied with my reflection in the mirror. I went into the dressing room and chose one of the evening gowns. The servants did their job well. They moved my belongings from my old room without changing their positions. It made it easier for me to find the clothes, bags, or shoes I needed.Looking at Sinclair’s clothes, I lifted his watch to open the door to the secret room. I entered the room and saw my photos. I was joyful during my teenage years. That happiness diminished when I entered my early twenties. At that age, I discovered there was an issue with my ovaries. I didn’t dare tell anyone. I put on a good act in front of everyone, but the photographer captured me at my most vulnerable moment. Why did Sinclair print my picture in such a large size? He hated me because he suspected I was involved in his brother’s death. Then, why did he provide a special

[Darcy]I ignored Scott and Rocco's protesting glances. I knew I risked our lives by traveling with my son. But I couldn't leave him in his room. Keane wouldn't sleep. The boy knew I would be somewhere during the day.Canceling my dinner plans with Vicky and Lydia wasn't an option either. I had to meet with them if I wanted to open the inn soon. I’d go crazy if I didn’t keep myself busy, especially since I’d quit my job at the club. When I arrived at the restaurant, I saw Vicky crossing the street. Thankfully, I wasn’t late. I got out of the car and waved at her. My former secretary squealed when she saw the baby in my arms.“Keane!” Vicky greeted him. “Do you still remember me? Aunt Vick! Oh my. It’s been so long, and you’re this big.” She stroked my son’s hair.“We shouldn’t talk here,” I suggested.“Oh. Come on. Let’s go inside,” Vicky said.We entered the restaurant, which wasn’t crowded. The waiter led us to a corner of the room, away from the window. Rocco and Scott sat beside u

  • The Mafia's Frozen Bride   136|For My Son's Sake

[Sinclair]I was relieved that my plan went well. Everyone important to me and Darcy was in the same place. I didn't have to worry about anything. I could work on my other big plans without fear. However, I received bad news from Lionel when I arrived at the office. My work was piling up on my desk, but I had to take care of a problem at home. Fortunately, I didn't have a lunch appointment. Everyone was busy monitoring the mayoral election results.Going home that afternoon dispelled my worries. Darcy only needed time to meet with Dashiell. I was relieved to hear that she was ready to be my wife completely. That meant she agreed to be my son's mother.I shouldn’t have mentioned Channing, but I’d do anything to get what I wanted, including Darcy. If she was with me out of pity, that wasn’t a problem, as long as she didn’t leave me.“Talking about the danger threatening your life to Darcy isn’t wise, boss,” Neil said. “What if she goes ahead with her plan to divorce you?”“Darcy won’t d

  • The Mafia's Frozen Bride   135|Be My Wife

The man looked at Olivia and me before approaching us. He stared at me without emotion. I couldn't read his mind. But I could guess why he had come during the break.I turned to Olivia. “Go back to the room. I need to talk to him.”The young woman looked at me and the man beside me. “Yes, ma’am,” she replied obediently.“What about the room I prepared?” Sinclair asked.I glanced toward the stairs. “I don’t want to meet Dashiell.”“I won’t divorce you.”“Sinclair,” I said.“I’ve prepared a comfortable bedroom for Keane. Olivia’s room is next to it, complete with a connecting door to make it easier for her to care for the baby. You won’t be sleeping in the old room, but in mine,” he explained.“What? You promised we’d each have our room,” I protested.“The rules have changed because you keep talking about separation.”I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. Arguing with Sinclair wouldn’t solve anything. I needed to talk calmly. He had helped me a lot. The man met with Channing and help
