Chapter four

ALEXA'S POV.

2 days later. (August 20th Friday.)

I felt a hand wrap around my swollen stomach, as I switched off my gas cooker. Leo laid a kiss on the left side of my neck making me sigh at the feeling. The feeling he's been giving me for a while now... Probably because I'm pregnant. Don't know.

"I was gonna go wake you up," I informed.

"Hmm." Was his answer, as he kept giving me kisses.

I turned around to look at him and placed my hands on his arms which were still wrapped around me. "We should eat then."

"Hmm..." He trailed off.

I was beginning to wonder what his problem was.

"Have I done something bad to the extent that I don't deserve a good morning kiss?" He asked.

My eyes widened. "Oh." I smiled. "Sorry."

He nodded waiting for it.

Oh. Oh, he's gonna let me go for it instead.

He raised a brow at me impatiently waiting.

I blinked. I think my body is shaking, and I could see a slight smirk on his face. He's obviously liking this.

I feel transparent right now because it was obvious he was seeing right through my nervousness. His eyes just stayed calm on me.

He lifted my hands, and placed them on his shoulder, making me go closer to him. "When we get into an argument, you always voice out the fact that you're my wife. We've had sex, and we've kissed a lot, but it baffles me that you're still shy."

I was short of words, cause he was right.

He smiled. "Don't worry, I'll teach you how not to. You're stuck with me anyways." He said, then brushed his lips against mine. We kissed for a few seconds, then he pulled away, obviously not wanting things to get too intense than it already is. "Good morning." He greeted me with a smile.

I smiled back. "Good morning."

"How are you guys doing?" He asked referring to me and our baby.

I smiled. "We are fine."

He looked at my stomach. "You're already showing tells a lot of things."

"Yeah."

He nodded and looked back at me. "Let's go eat, then."

I equally nodded. "I should serve."

"I will arrange the table."

He released me and walked to the dining. I turned around still wrapping my head around what just happened.

He's so sweet, and sometimes his sweetness can be a little scary. There's a lot going on in his head that I don't know about, and that also scares me, a lot.

He wasn't this sweet, and never cared about a good morning kiss. It's as if something changed in him, and he probably thinks he should treat me much better than he does.

It's obvious it's the pregnancy. God help me so I don't get used to this.

"Do you need help?" My heart jumped, and I turned to him.

"Uh, no. I'm.."

"I think you do." He walked closer to me. "What should I carry, 'cause I'm hungry, and you're making me wait?"

I blinked feeling guilt surge through me. "Wait here, then."

I served spaghetti on a plate and gave it to him.

He smiled. "Thanks, babe." Then he left.

I sighed. Sadly, whatever spell that's upon him will wear off once I give birth, or it probably won't. I hope it doesn't.

I served mine and walked to the dining. He was already eating.

I sat down beside him, at his right-hand side, and dropped my food on the table.

I wanted to tell him something, but I figured I should wait until he was done eating, or he might lose his appetite.

I dug in and equally started eating, putting a forkful of spaghetti in my mouth, and chewing the goodness out of it.

After three forks of spaghetti, my eyes met my husband's plate totally cleared, as he gulped his water.

Men are so fast when they eat.

"Do you still want more?" I asked politely.

He shook his head dropping the glass on the table. "No, I'm okay."

I nodded. "OK. You got somewhere to be today?"

He narrowed his eyes at me. He always does that when he suspects I've got something to tell him. "Uh, not really, although I've been planning on making another franchise of my club here."

"Oh," I said with surprise. "I didn't know you had that plan."

He nodded. "Yeah. It hasn't been long I decided."

I sighed. "That isn't bad.."

"Why do I feel like there's a but, there?"

His narrowed eyes were still on me. "Well, there's my company, so I just thought...."

He shook his head in disapproval and looked away from me. "No, that's more you, and my father."

"I'm your wife, so you're involved too."

He rolled his eyes at me. "There you go again."

I sighed. "I'm just saying..."

"Babe, I know what you're saying, but I'm not sure you need me when you've got my father." He interrupted me.

"But when I give birth, I'll have to go back to handling it. Your dad has to retire."

He furrowed his brows at me. "When you give birth?"

I sighed and nodded. "Yeah. I'm not planning on going back yet til I give birth, but also, after, we're gonna have to take care of our baby, so I still will be on and off in the company."

"Well, you can just hire a nanny."

I shook my head. "I don't want any nanny to take care of our baby. I want to be the one to do that. I just wanna give all my time to our baby."

A loud sigh came out of him. "What do you really want? It was obvious you wanted something anyways."

"I want you to take care of it."

He shook his head. "No. No, I'm not."

"But why? Because your dad is handling it?" I asked not liking this.

"Because my dad has a connection with it, and please don't go informing my dad about your plans. Don't go telling him any stupid thing about it."

My eyes welled up at his harsh words, and my face was obviously scrunched up. I was equally feeling uneasy, and feeling like just letting go.

He was feeling conflicted seeing what I became about the issue.

He was trying not to look at me, but then he sighed, and I was hoping it was a sigh of defeat.

"I'm sorry, Alex. I can't."

"Can't you just think about it?" I asked depressingly, feeling the urge to really cry. A tear snaked down my left eye.

He noticed it, and I could tell he gulped. He doesn't seem to like me this way.

"Wi...will it make you feel better?" He asked politely.

I nodded.

He leaned closer to me and rubbed the tear from my eyes. "Then I will. I will think about it, but I can't make any pr..."

"Promise?" I pleaded.

He sighed and looked away from me, his jaw tightening.

"Promise?" I asked again. The urge to cry slowly left.

He looked back at me, and after a few seconds, he nodded with another sigh. "Promise."

"Pinky swear?" I asked bringing out my pinky finger.

He scowled. "What?"

I brought it out for him to see clearly.

He sighed and took my picky finger with his.

I let out a breath of relief.

"Happy now?"

I nodded. "Yes. Thank you, although my food is cold now."

He leaned back on his chair obviously feeling defeated. Wow. Crying really works, although I would have.

It seems I'm beginning to feel one of the perks of pregnancy. Hormones.

I glanced at him, cause his eyes were peering into me. God knows what is in his head.

"Although, you have until I give birth to think about it," I informed him.

"Don't tell my dad about it. Keep it to yourself." He warned.

I nodded. I figured I should do that bit for him. "Yeah, I won't."

He equally nodded, and I couldn't help but smile at his frown face.

A day to remember.

PHOEBE'S POV.

I looked around the restaurant we were in and looked back at Emily who sat in front of me. "Very nice we have our own meeting spot."

She chuckled. "Right?"

I nodded. "Why don't you go first?"

She sighed. "I think you should. I couldn't get anything from the CCTV of that day. It was sad watching the accident."

I scowled. "You didn't notice anything?"

She shook her head. "I didn't. There was one thing weird that I saw. It was like she was looking at someone or something when the accident was about to happen."

"And you couldn't find what that someone or something is?" I asked disappointedly.

She nodded. "Although, it confirms the fact that the brake problem led to the accident because she was struggling with it. She was so scared." Emily said obviously revisiting the video in her head.

I sighed, suddenly happy I wasn't the one who watched it.

"What about you? What did you get?"

I smiled. "I got the name we want, and her address, but it's not here, and we can't travel there, so I had to befriend her."

"Oh. So, we got nothing."

I narrowed my eyes at her. "Didn't you get me? I had to befriend her."

She furrowed her brows. "You already befriended her?"

I nodded. "I told her who I was, and my connection with Leonard."

She equally nodded. "OK. Go on."

I cleared my throat. "Hmm, well, she kinda lied. She said she has never stepped her foot here, and Leonard is kinda lost to her, and then she blocked me like the way Leonard blocked her." I dropped the bomb.

Emily tilted her head at me in disbelief. "Really?"

I shrugged. "That's all I got."

She sighed. "We have to find a way to get to her."

"Travel there?" I asked.

She nodded. "Yeah. We have to talk to her. Let's just take two days' leave from work."

I furrowed my brows. "They'll let you?"

She nodded. "She will."

I nodded. "Good then. We have a mission, but when?"

"Next week. This week is far spent."

I nodded again. "Right."

It turns out things will still work in our favor.

3RD PERSON POV.

"What's happening?" A voice on the other side of the phone asked.

"We have a setback."

"So we're pausing?" The voice asked.

"You guys are for now, but not me. I'll deal with some things myself."

"Alright."

"When I'm ready for you guys, I'll inform you what to do. Just keep things steady down there."

"Yeah, we'll do just that."

"Just know you're gonna be waiting a long time, but it doesn't mean things won't still work in my favor."

"If only she just died."

"Well, she didn't, but the mistake won't be made twice."

"If I may ask, why the sudden postponement of something you've waited for? Why not just kill her totally?"

"Don't ask questions. As I said, it was an unexpected setback, but my plans will surely work. What are nine months compared to years I've waited?"
