LOGINThunder echoed in the background as Selena stood there, watching Elijah throw her things out of the house.
It wasn’t raining yet, but the gloomy, thick clouds in the night sky were enough to let her know that it was about to pour. “Elijah, babe, wait,” she said, her heart thumping in her chest. Her throat had a knot in it, and her body was shaking from fear and adrenaline. “Please…can you just wait?!” she shouted, the maids and other workers looking at them. He stopped. “Selena, as much as I love you, it’s pretty clear that you don’t.” “I do!” she cried. He scoffed, shaking his head. “Be honest with me, Selena. For once in your life, be honest with me. Do you love me?” She opened her mouth to speak, but no words came out. How could she lie to him? “Exactly,” he said, running a hand through his hair. “I’m done. Leave.” Tears freely fell from her eyes. “Don’t do this to me. Don’t do this to me, please.” Her voice broke at the end. She made no attempt to wipe the tears away, too focused on what was happening. “You know the state of my family. You know that I’m an omega. If you leave me, everyone will see me as a reject, and no man will ever touch me again. Not even with a ten-foot pole.” “Well, you should have thought about that sooner.” Those were the last words he said before walking away. Selena tried to follow him, but one of the guards stopped her. “I’m sorry, ma’am, but you need to leave. Right now.” He touched her arm gently. She yanked it from his grasp, breathing heavily. “Or what?!” she shouted. “Or I’ll have to throw you out.” His voice was firm. “You have a minute to leave the mansion.” He was serious; it was obvious. Tears streamed down her face, and she still couldn’t believe this was happening. Everything felt like it was moving too fast. Considering how cruel she usually was to Elijah, tonight had been nothing compared to that. If anything, she had been humble and had even apologized. She had begged, and that was something she hated to do. What was she going to tell her mom? Her mother was going to be furious. And Lily, how would they afford her treatment now? She could die. Her mom barely made enough money from the hospital where she worked. It wasn’t that healthcare didn’t pay well in their town, it did. It was only because her mom was an omega, and omegas were automatically paid less. And even if Selena got a job, she wouldn’t be able to help much either. Her father? She barely knew anything about him. Her mother had told her when she was old enough to ask that he had been killed in the war and that she was never to ask or talk about him again. Selena had listened. So yes, she had truly messed up. Six months ago, meeting Elijah had felt like a dream. Their bond, crafted by the Moon Goddess, seemed magical. He was everything and more, and he had been a huge help to her and her family. Life had become easy, but after a month or two together, she realized she didn’t love him. She had tried, tried to love him or at least to pretend, but after four months, bitterness had crept in. She had treated Elijah terribly and always believed the Moon Goddess had made a mistake in bringing them together. But that was something she could never say aloud. Anyone who spoke ill of the Moon Goddess risked being stoned to death. “Ma’am, your one minute is up. Leave.” The guard’s voice pulled her out of her thoughts. Her heart hurt and her chest felt tight, but she didn’t fight or argue. She turned and walked out of the mansion, certain Elijah would change his mind soon. He would calm down by morning, she told herself. All she needed to do was wait. But she couldn’t wait on the property, she knew that. So she grabbed her things, dragged them to the bus stop across the street, and sat down. She wiped her tears with the back of her hand, breathing heavily. As much as she wanted to call her mother, she knew it would be the worst possible idea. Her mother would kill her. “It’s all my fault,” she whispered, trying not to break down completely. Then it began to rain, making things worse. The temperature dropped, and the night became unbearable. She kept staring at the front gate, expecting the guard to come and get her, but that never happened. She waited for almost three hours before sleep finally took her. When she woke up, someone was tapping her shoulder. Her eyes fluttered open, and she yawned and stretched before realizing what was happening. It was her mother. “Mom?” she asked, sitting up, confused. Why was the woman here? “You are such a disappointment, Selena.” Her mother’s eyes were teary. “Are you finally happy? You don’t listen. You never listen. Now you’ve ruined everything!” Her voice broke. “I…I don’t know what you’re…Mom…” “Oh, stop playing dumb. He called me. Elijah called me. He said he’s done with you and that he’s going to publicly reject the bond between the two of you.” “No.” Selena shook her head and stood up. “I can do something. I can change his mind.” “Well, you better, because your sister is starting to get sick again. And the Moon Goddess knows my paycheck can’t help her.”Cassie was sitting in the passenger’s seat of the G-wagon, right next to the new hot guy she had just met. She was mesmerized by him.He was not only hot, but he was smart as well. His mannerisms were great and everything he did or say was just so attractive to her.“Malek,” she said his name. It felt good to roll it off her tongue, but for some reason, she felt like she had heard it before. She just couldn’t put her finger on where or when. “Yes, that’s my name.” He focused on the road, driving them further away from the hospital. “And yours is Cassandra, right?” The blonde girl was taken aback by this. “How—how do you know my name?” She asked, nervousness filling her. She glanced at the door and it was locked. The guy also started driving a bit faster now. He smirked when he felt her eyes on him. “Let’s just say that I have my ways.” He chuckled, keeping his eyes on the road. Cassie’s mind was racing, spinning and trying to calculate if she found a way to jump out of the moving c
It was dark, and it was cold. That was before Selena opened her eyes. When they were open, her vision started to clear up, her memory a bit fuzzy. It was no longer dark, but it was still cold. She looked around and soon found out that she was in a hospital room. Then her eyes fell on someone who was also in the room with her. She had thought she was alone. It was Elijah. “Look who’s awake,” he said, chuckling to himself. Her eyes fell on his bandaged hand and she looked back to his eyes. “Where am I? What happened?” Her memory was still here and there, nothing really solid. He walked over to her bed, a soft smile on his face. “You’re in the hospital, Selena. You were brought here by someone a few hours ago and you just underwent surgery.”“Surgery? What…?” Then it all started to come back to her. She started to remember everything. From the argument she had with the alpha to the blonde girl pretending to help her. “Cassie…” She said in a low tone while trying to sit up. When she w
Wolfbane. The word had made Selena’s heart drop. She knew about this stuff, she learned about it in high school. It was illegal in most of the packs, including theirs. This was something that could kill a full grown werewolf in just a few minutes, sometimes even less, depending on the potency of the one used. And now the omega had just been told that Cassie had given her that to drink. “You’re trying to kill me?” The blonde girl swallowed hard before replying, “I was.” She sighed shakily. “But not anymore. That’s why I took the mug away from you.”“Cassie, I drank half of what was in the mug! And you watched me!”“I know, that’s why…” She walked past the omega and headed to the door, opening it. “That’s why we need to go to the hospital now. I want to save you.”“I…” “Can we please talk more when we’re actually at the hospital? Please? We don’t have much time.”Selena was hurt, but again, what did she expect from the blonde girl? She hated how she had been stupid enough to believe t
Cassie walked into the room and headed towards the bed, sitting on it. Then she watched the omega close the door before turning in her direction.“Why are you here?”“I uh, I heard you and Maddox arguing,” she began, still hugging the mug in her hand. “And considering what I did to you during training today, I felt bad. You’re going through a lot right now and I just…I feel like you need a friend.” She smiled. Sniffling and wiping her face with the back of her hand, the omega stared, a look of confusion in her eyes. “Um…okay, I guess. Thanks.”Cassie nodded weakly, handing the mug to the girl. “It’s chamomile tea, it helps with stress. I added a little extra something to help you sleep as well.”“A little extra something?” Suspicion laced her tone.“Honey.” The blonde girl stood to her feet. “Natural honey from our mountains. It’s quite expensive and hard to get.”Selena didn’t know what to think about this. Why was the girl suddenly being nice to her? It didn’t make any sense. Just
As Cassie opened the door before walking in, she could hear voices. It was like people were arguing. At first, she couldn’t figure out who the voices belonged to, but as she walked deeper into the house, she soon found out.It was the omega and the alpha. As for Selena, she had no clue that the blonde girl had returned. And frankly, she didn’t care. She was way too focused on the fact that the alpha was pissed at her because of the whole white-haired Luna thing.“I just don’t see the issue!” She shouted at him. “The issue is pretty clear, Selena. You’re the white-haired Luna and you didn’t tell me.” He was angry, but wasn’t shouting though. His tone was hard and mostly monotonous. It was like he was trying to hold himself back. “Are you serious? No, are you actually serious?”“I am!” He snapped. “I am! Gosh, Selena, I am!” He pulled on his hair in frustration before continuing. “You kept something that important a secret from me! This is something that could have helped us to be ab
Heart pounding, Cassie swallowed hard. “Are you sure? We haven’t heard from dad in a very long time.”“I’m f*cking sure, Cassandra.” The woman scoffed before taking a long sip of her wine and then turning away. She proceeded to walk, heading towards the living room. The blonde girl knew she had to follow, and that was what she did. She followed her mom into the living room and they sat down. “So what do we do?” She asked in a small voice as she played with her fingers nervously. “Do we…do we sell the house?”"God forbid, that’s never happening. What’s wrong with you?” Her mom seemed offended by the suggestion. The woman placed her wine glass on the coffee table before continuing, “If we sell this place, everyone will know. Everyone in this god-forsaken town will know we have fallen from our high horse. Our respect will be stripped from us.”Cassie nodded. That was true, and she didn’t want that either. “Okay.”“And don’t get me started on how we would have to move in a normal and poor
