LOGINSelena sat in the passenger seat of her mother’s car as they drove home. Her heart was heavy, and shame burned through her. She couldn’t even bring herself to look at her mother.
She could feel the disappointment radiating from the older woman, could sense the quiet anger and blame. Her mother didn’t have to say anything…Selena already knew she held her responsible for what had happened. And she was right. It was all her fault. If she had just gotten her emotions under control and treated Elijah better, none of this would have happened. But it had, and there was nothing she could do about it now. “What happened? Why did he just snap and throw you out? Elijah’s a pretty calm person,” her mother said, her tone a mix of disbelief and frustration. Selena let out a faint scoff. “No, he is,” she admitted softly, still staring out the window. “He truly is. But, Mom, I’ve told you…I don’t have feelings for him. How am I supposed to stay with someone I don’t love for the rest of my life?” Her mother glanced at her briefly before focusing back on the road, a deep frown forming on her face. After a few long seconds, the woman spoke. “You learn to love people, Selena. It’s not always like in the movies or in books. This is real life. That kind of love rarely exists.” “But…” “No.” Her mother’s voice rose slightly, and her grip on the steering wheel tightened until her knuckles turned white. “You had it all, my daughter. You had it all. We are omegas…opportunities like that never come our way. We’re at the bottom of the social ladder, and people are often disgusted by us.” She shook her head, her voice heavy with disappointment. “But you found someone who saw you for who you really are instead of your social status. Someone who’s rich, well-known, kind, and patient…and you threw that away because of a feeling?” Selena couldn’t deny it…her mother made sense. The more she thought about it, the more she realized she had truly messed up. “Do you think it’s too late?” she asked quietly. “Do you think he would take me back?” “Well, he better,” her mother replied sharply. “Because we need his help. You know how your sister gets sick so quickly, how bad things get when her health declines. Looking at things, you have a day or two to fix this with him. Maybe less.” Selena swallowed hard, her heart skipping a beat at the thought of her sister falling deathly ill again, and this time without Elijah’s help or connections. Lily could die. And it would be her fault. She would never forgive herself. The rest of the car ride was silent. Neither of them spoke. The weight of everything hung between them until they finally reached the house. Selena unfastened her seatbelt and stepped out after her mother parked. She walked toward the house and rang the doorbell. “I have work in a few minutes, so I can’t stay,” her mother said briskly. “Your sister is inside. I didn’t send her to school because of her health. Watch over her, and in the meantime, you better call Elijah a million times and fix things with him.” She narrowed her eyes before turning to leave. “What about my things?” Selena asked as her mother started the engine of the vehicle. “You have some of your old clothes inside. Use them. When I come back, you can get the rest from the car.” With that, she drove away. Selena sighed deeply and rang the doorbell again. A moment later, Lily opened the door with a bright smile. “You’re back!” she said cheerfully, rushing forward to hug her tightly. “I’ve missed you so much!” Selena hugged her back, warmth filling her chest. But as soon as they pulled apart, worry replaced that warmth. Lily was thinner, paler, and weaker. Her mother had said they had a day or two before needing to take Lily to the hospital, but looking at her now, Selena feared they had far less. The realization terrified her. They didn’t have health insurance, most omegas didn’t. That privilege was reserved for the powerful and wealthy. And Lily’s treatments were beyond expensive. “How do you feel?” Selena asked gently. “I’m just a bit tired,” Lily replied with a small smile. “But I’m okay.” Even her voice sounded weak. “Alright,” Selena said softly, kissing her forehead before leading her inside. She took a long shower and changed into some of her old clothes before heading to the kitchen to prepare a meal. Her mother wouldn’t be home until late, probably close to midnight. She worked two jobs and had once thought about quitting since Elijah had been helping them. But now that Selena had ruined things, that dream was gone. At least until she made things right with him. She cooked porridge, fried eggs, and bacon: Lily’s favorites. The girl never got tired of them, and honestly, Selena had grown to love them too. “Selena?” Lily’s voice broke through her thoughts. Selena turned off the burner under the eggs and lowered the heat on the porridge before giving her sister her full attention. “Dad says he wants to take me somewhere,” Lily said quietly. Selena furrowed her brows and gave her a small, confused smile. She knelt beside her and spoke softly. “Lily, you know Dad isn’t with us anymore.” “But…” Lily began but suddenly stopped. Her face went pale, paler than before, and then she collapsed to the floor with a dull thud. Panic surged through Selena as she rushed to her sister’s side. She caught her limp body in her arms, heart racing. She had been through this before. Lily fainting wasn’t new, but it didn’t make it any less terrifying. She knew what to do, but she also knew she had to act fast. She needed to keep her breathing steady until they reached the hospital. If she didn’t, Lily might die.A chill ran down Harry’s spine as he mentally chewed on the information of who was standing right in front of him…the very same man who was probably the one who had murdered his father and killed his dog.“Come on, man. Say something. You’re in the presence of a celebrity!” Malek said, chuckling freely. “I know your dad is dead and all, but come on…” He wiggled his brows, a crazy look in his eyes. “You’re sick!” Harry spat at him, the reminder that his father, who was the only family he had left, had just been murdered by this psychopath. “What the f*ck is wrong with you?!” Tears burned his eyes and threatened to fall. “Harry, Harry, Harry,” The guy replied calmly while taking a few steps closer to him. “Do you have any idea the things your father has done? Did you actually think that he was innocent? He deserved what he got, and everyone else who deserves death will get it before I take over this miserable pack. I will cleanse this town and will make it better.” He smiled widely, h
Harry’s POVHarry had made his way back home. It had been years since he had been taking his anxiety medication. Not because he was just dependent, but because he needed it. He was someone who had struggled with extreme anxiety since he was about nine years old. With his mother nowhere to be found since the woman had left him and his dad for a human years ago, that also did not do anything for his condition. People would always tell him that it was all in his head, that he didn't have to be dependent on his meds, but they did not get it. They did not understand. They were not the ones living through the hell that he would live in every time he went just a few hours without taking what he needed to take. That medication was his saving grace. It was the only thing that brought him peace. He had tried therapy, but it had not worked. He had tried working out or exercising, but those did not help either. He tried religion, but unfortunately, that did not work as well. Maybe the Moon god
Selena touched the little girl’s forehead and closed her eyes, ignoring what her mother was saying; she needed to focus. She did not have all the time in the world. She put aside her pain and her anger, only focusing on what she was doing at the moment. She needed to do that, considering that this could literally cause her so much, if not cause her to even lose her life. But she was ready to take that chance. For her little sister, she was ready to do that. Heart pounding in her chest, she waited. She waited for something to happen. And nothing did. She knew what the goddess had told her to do, and this was it. So why was nothing happening? Why did she feel like she was crazy as everyone stared at her, even though she could not see them because her eyes were closed? She could feel their eyes on her. And her mother was still speaking, saying something that Selena had already zoned out, so she could not hear. “Come on, work…” She said to herself as she sat there, silently praying f
As soon as Selena blinked, she was awake. It took a few seconds for her vision to clear up, but it did. And when it did, the first person that she saw was Axiel. He had a worried look on his face, but his eyes held relief. “F*ck, I thought…I thought…” He stood up and ran his hand through his hair, almost as if he was trying to process what had just happened. Then he looked back at her, and they locked eyes. “What happened? One minute, we were training like we always do, and the next, you just…you blacked out.” “How long was I out for?” She asked as she proceeded to get off the ground after peeling her eyes away from his. He reached out and helped her. Her head was aching, and she felt a little lightheaded as well, but other than that, she was fine. “Not long,” He said, sniffling dryly as he continued to stare at her. “What happened, Selena?” She stood there and could remember it all vividly. “I met the Moon goddess,” She began, a small, sad smile forming on her lips. Then she turn
All her emotions, all that anger and pain. It was all gone, and they were just standing there. This time, there was no field or any street. They were just standing in a void. There was nothing. Absolutely nothing. This was the best she had felt in her entire life. Was she…was she dead? But again, how could she? Why would she be? Axiel would never push her to the point of hurting her; she knew that very well. So where…what was this place? She kind of knew it was the Spirit World, but at the same time, it felt different. “You have so much pain in you, Selena. So much pain,” The goddess said to her as the entity walked closer to her. “I have tried to help you to use it to grow and become better, but I fear that it might devour you. I fear it might destroy you, leaving the pack vulnerable.” Selena scoffed, shaking her head. “I told you, right?” She chuckled without humor. “I told you that I was not the one.” She swallowed hard. “You made a mistake. You’re literally the Moon goddess, a
The engine of the car was on, but they were moving. Selena could feel the gaze of Axiel on her as she stared at her hands on her lap.She knew that if she wanted him to trust her and for him to help her, she would need to tell him the truth. She looked up at him, and they locked eyes. From the way he looked at her, she could tell that he really did care for her.“So um…” She hooked some of her hair behind her ears and cleared her throat softly. “My sister is brain dead right now, and Elijah is dead. I think I can do something about it, though. I’m the white-haired Luna, I should be able to do something, right?”“Selena…” he looked at her with pity.“Look, I don’t need your pity. I just…I just need you to help me find out how to help them.”“I’m sorry to say, but I don’t think you can. We trained for days, and the only ability we discovered was you being able to heal…not bring people back from the dead.”Selena sniffled, feeling tears burn her eyes. But no, she was not going to give up
Leon drove back home, his mood ruined. But he was less concerned about his mood and more concerned about the fact that everything was falling apart. When he arrived home, he parked the car and killed the engine. He got down and made his way over to the house, walking in. He was so tired, and he ju
It was past midnight and Leon was in a car all by himself, driving over to the Elders’ Chamber so he could have an emergency meeting. It was supposed to be him, the alpha, the omega, and Cassie. But he was the only one going there because he was the only one that could at the moment. When he arriv
Sweating and tired from the training session, Selena was making her way back to the car. Axiel was right behind her, following her as well. Despite the whole thing about the confession of his love for her, the training went really well. If anything, it went even better today. And that was enough t
The tension in the living room was so thick that you could cut through it with a knife. Axiel was trying so hard to stand his ground, but he knew that he was caught. Almost like deer in headlights, he was frozen. He swallowed hard before finally deciding to tell the truth. It was obvious that the
