Selena chuckled dryly, no hint of humor. “Mom, I told you. I don’t have a lot of time. I need to make this decision. We need to make this decision together. So let’s stop with the jokes.”

The woman’s eyes were red and tears leaked out of them freely. She sniffled and tried to wipe at her face but the tears just kept coming. “Selena, I have never been more serious in my life. I can’t help you make your decision, you have to do that. I’m not the right person to ask, I’m a liar and manipulator.”
