Astoria’s POV]

The morning of my mother’s wedding arrived with bright sun rays and a gentle breeze.

After waking up, I simply lay there listening to the distant hum of preparation, guests talking and laughing, their voices muted and distant, and the muted footsteps in hallways.

I rolled onto my side and stared at the flimsy white curtains.

It felt peaceful for once. But I couldn’t linger like would have liked to. Last night, Vladimir’s strange way to deflect the conversation had me thinking about what they were hiding.

I sat up slowly. Despite the cold relationship, I was happy for her. She had suffered enough and deserved someone like Matthew. I had seen him watch my mother, his gaze always fond and his attention solely fixed on her.

However, I couldn’t feel truly happy for some reason.

A tiring sadness crept up inside me, not because she was marrying Matthew, but because once again, everything was changing.

My gaze drifted toward the corner of the room where my gown hung. A beautiful pastel pink off-shoulder attire. Soft and ethereal, the fabric was layered in delicate chiffon that caught the light like a blush against skin.

I had once imagined another dress.

White, along with a veil.

Shawn’s face surfaced in my mind unbidden. The way he used to talk about the dream wedding, and the several things he would do to make it memorable. We wanted a beach wedding, private but dreamy.

But that conversation slowly became less and less, and Shawn never spoke about it again.

Oddly, the memory or the wish didn’t hurt anymore. I often thought about his lack of enthusiasm to settle down, and it hurt when he skirted around the topic later in our relationship, but now…it felt like a relief.

Even though I was cheated on, at least I was glad that we weren’t married already.

I let out a shaky exhale and got out of bed.

Today I needed to be at my best, and then…I pushed back the thoughts and went to get ready because the wedding would take place in the afternoon.

Despite the offers of assistance from stylists and attendants fluttering around the estate, I chose to get ready alone.

I took time in the shower before stepping out, drying myself, and finally beginning what would be an hour-long ordeal.

I left my hair down, pinning a few sections back with a bejeweled hairpin that Mom had given me. The curls came out perfectly. For makeup, I chose to keep it natural. For accessories, I only put on a pair of diamond studs, another gift from my mother.

I patted down the dress and observed my reflection. I didn’t look plain, but neither did I look like I was grabbing attention.

That was good.

Slipping on a similar color kitten heels, I picked up the clutch containing my phone and was ready to go.

A knock sounded at the door just as I was about to turn the handle to leave.

I turned the handle and came face to face with Viktor.

My breath caught in my throat. Viktor looked like he had just stepped out of a fashion magazine.

He wore a charcoal suit tailored perfectly to his broad frame, crisp white shirt beneath, but no tie. His hair was brushed back, and he had put on some kind of cologne that smelled heavenly.

As I regarded him, I didn’t miss the way his gaze swept over me slowly.

For a moment, I thought I saw something flicker across his eyes the moment he looked back up at me.

“You look…” He paused, as if searching for the correct word. “Appropriate.”

Taken aback, a laugh slipped from me. “Wow, that almost sounded like a compliment.”

He stepped closer, not invading my private space, but almost. My smile faltered.

“It was.” His expression was sincere, and it made my stupid heart flutter again.

He reached into his jacket pocket and withdrew a small velvet box.

I blinked. “What’s that?”

“An olive branch,” he replied simply while opening it.

That surprised me more than the gift itself.

Inside the box was a delicate diamond pendant suspended on a thin white-gold chain. The stone caught the sunlight spilling through the window and glinted.

“It belonged to my grandmother,” he said evenly. “Consider it…a welcome gift.”

My throat tightened unexpectedly. That was…not what I was expecting.

I stared at the box, which looked old now that I noticed. But I was definitely not important enough for an heirloom?! It was way more than I deserved.

Shaking my head, I began, “But I can’t possibly—”

“It suits you.”His voice left little room for refusal.

Slowly, I turned, lifting my hair to expose the back of my neck.

I felt him step closer…closer than necessary. The brush of his fingers against my skin as he fastened the clasp sent a tingles down my spine as I had felt the day we sat at breakfast for the first time.

How many weeks was that? Two weeks? Three?

His touch felt intimate even though it wasn’t. Yet again I rudely reminded myself that he was my half-brother, and that would mean I couldn’t ever harbor anything for this guy. No feelings except for admiration and…platonic love.

His knuckles grazed my shoulder, cutting into my thoughts, as he adjusted the pendant so it rested perfectly against my collarbone.

I let out a shaky breath so as not to let myself get caught. This…heart fluttering and nervous clenching of the stomach wasn’t something I was supposed to feel.

I’ve never felt anything like that when I’m with Vladimir. Our hands have touched, and he is equally handsome as Viktor. So why was all this happening with Viktor only?

“There,” he murmured, breaking my inner monologue.

I turned back to face him.

The diamond lay cool against my skin, but warmth bloomed beneath it.

“Thank you,” I said softly. “For the olive branch.”

He regarded me again. “Since it’s an olive branch, I expect you to wear it. Always.”

His gaze held mine longer than necessary before he said, “Let’s get going.”

  • The Moon Marked Him As Mine   New Office

[Astoria’s POV]I woke up exhausted because I barely slept last night. For a few moments, I simply stared at the ceiling above me while my mind slowly caught up with reality. Today I will be joining a new position, a new office.Damn.Technically, I was still under contract with my previous company. There had been clauses and conditions buried in pages of legal jargon I had barely read before signing because back then, I had simply been desperate to get some kind of job to stay afloat. Now I was leaving abruptly, that too, without even bothering to notify them.A sane person would probably worry about getting sued. Unfortunately, I was too exhausted to care anymore.Besides, Viktor had said that he would handle that stuff. Men like him probably had lawyers who could destroy companies without blinking. The thought should have comforted me, but it onlt made me shudder. I hoped I’d never get in his bad books.I let out a sigh and dragged myself out of bed.Getting ready took less time th

  • The Moon Marked Him As Mine   The Past

[Viktor’s POV]I returned long after everyone had gone to bed, exhausted and in disbelief.Kai was still unhappy. He wanted Astoria to be near us, in a place where we could protect her, but I knew that pushing her further would only ruin the progress I had made so far.I slumped into the high-back couch without bothering to undress. Sleep as usual would evade me tonight. I took off the shoes and rested my legs at the edge of the coffee table. My gaze wandered to the photo frame that still sat at the top of my dresser, acting more like a reminder than a memory.Eight years ago, everything in my life had turned upside down.My mother and Avery, my chosen mate, had disappeared. I sank further back into as I was reminded of the night when I returned from a patrol and found their absence.Initially, I thought it was because they had gone for a shopping spree as they had bonded well, but…Then an hour bled into 3, and before I knew it, I was shouting orders to find them. I remembered my dad

  • The Moon Marked Him As Mine   Persuasion

[Viktor’s POV]My gaze remained fixed on her retreating figure as she walked out of the café without looking back.I simply sat there, my jaw clenched, replaying every word she had said… and every word I had chosen to say.Everything I had chosen to say was calculated, to protect myself and…her. In such moments, I think that being a human is a blessing for her. She didn’t have to deal with the brunt of carrying a bond that was forged by the Heavens above.I let out a slow breath as I leaned back in my chair, dragging a hand down my face.“She’s not wrong,” I muttered under my breath.A server approached hesitantly. “Sir, would you like anything else?” Which only meant that she was politely asking if she could get the bill so I could leave.“No,” I said shortly, already rising to my feet. “Bring me the bill.”After paying and leaving a generous tip, I stepped out of the café a minute later, the evening air hitting me like a quiet slap.My gaze swept the street instinctively, catching s

[Astoria’s POV]I stared at the screen until my vision blurred. My thumb hovering over the accept button. My heart had already begun to race as intrigue leapt to the forefront. My mind screamed to decline the call, but my traitorous heart wanted to hear the very man’s voice, who I should only see in the familial light.I swallowed and picked up.“Hello?” My voice came out steadier than I felt.“We need to meet and talk,” Viktor said after a brief pause. There was no warmth in his voice or any greeting.Something about that annoyed me immediately.“I’m busy,” I replied, even though my hands were clammy and I was more likely to have a sleepless night after this call.“It won’t take long,” he said, as if my refusal not worth considering.I pressed my lips together, irritation rising. “You could have just told me whatever it is on the phone.”“This isn’t a conversation for the phone.” His voice held enough gravity that I almost agreed before I remembered how he had never checked on me bef

  • The Moon Marked Him As Mine   The Impact

[Viktor’s POV]“And?” I probbed.“He…he never talked about his whereabouts either. Please..I’m…I’m innocent, Alpha,” Lena pleaded, her eyes glistening with unshed tears.“You allowed that rogue to enter the territory on my father’s wedding,” I snarled, letting Kai do the talking. She bared her neck in submission. “I…I…didn’t mean to. He…he threatened to tell Elder Moira about me having an affair with several…”Before she could utter more, my fingers were wrapping around her neck. “You dare to tell me that you sleep around with rogues and think that I would spare you.”Lena struggled, her wolf surfacing.“Call Elder Moira now!” I barked at my beta, Sam, through the mindlink.“Yes, alpha.”He was efficient with his task as 15 minutes later, Elder Moira slammed open the door to my study.“Why was I summoned so unceremoniously, Alpha Viktor? Where is your father? I would like to talk to him about this disrespectful—” Her words came to a halt when her gaze fell on Lena, who sat with her ha

  • The Moon Marked Him As Mine   Disagreements

[Viktor’s POV]The next morning, Vladimir walked into my study, wearing a crisp blue button-down and gray trousers. “I knew you would be here. Couldn’t sleep?”“No, I just had some paperwork, so I came in early,” I lied, sorting through the stack of papers.I could feel my brother’s gaze on. He wasn’t going to rest easy until he could get Astoria back in the estate, but he didn’t know how dangerous that could be.He thought of her as a sister and probably saw me as the person who couldn’t accept someone as a half-sibling.I closed my eyes briefly.“Did you think of something?” He asked, and I knew what he was talking about.“About what?” I murmured as I glanced at the laptop screen.“You know very well what I mean.” Vladimir’s eyes blazed with muted anger.I gazed back at him. Silence followed, heavier this time.He let out a slow exhale as if to control his anger.“You stopped her at the beginning anyway,” he murmured. “You didn’t stop at anything.”My jaw tightened. “That was differ
