Chapter 5

She sounded like she was shocked at being called that. I told her that she will be in time but for now I needed to go so she could get some rest. I told her goodnight and before i hung up I may request. I had asked that the next dream that she had was to put it on canvas. I ended the call and fell back on my desk chair and sighed heavily.

I couldn't wait for her to come here. I decided that when she got here and was settled I was going to show her the lake and mountains that she had painted. I sat there and smiled as I thought of her being here with me and my wolf was spinning with excitement as well. With that thought I got up and went to get a shower and go to bed.

As I slept I had this dream that seemed so real. I dreamt that I was in a brightly lit field in the middle of a forest. The ground was covered with soft grass and bright fragrant flowers all around me. Standing in the middle of the field was a beautiful woman. Where have I seen her before I wondered. Then it hit me she was the moon goddess.

this part is the father of Kara speaking

I am an Alpha. All I know is how to take care of my pack, but as each day passes I can feel myself starting to get weaker. I haven't told anyone about my health for I fear for the pack to fall victim to an attack. I have decided that I was going to keep it from pack members including my daughter. As I was sitting at my desk my wife walked into the office, closed the door and went to the small frig I had in the office and got something for us to drink. After handing me my drink she sat down in the chair on the other side of my desk and sighed.

"What is it my dear?" I asked her with a worried look on face. She looked at me and said something that I had been dreading that I knew was coming. "It is time that you told Kara about your condition my love." she said to me with a weak smile. She continued saying, "If you don't I will. I don't want her resenting me or you for not telling her the truth about it and her finding out the hard way. That will just kill her. I know you don't want anyone to know but she has every right to know about her father. It's not right to keep something like this away from her. It's fair to her or us specially with her leaving in a few more days to go with her mate. She thinks that you were wanting to find her a chosen mate to get rid of her for your personal gain.

"You know that's not true my dear. But you are right I do need to tell her before it is too late for me. Have the staff set up our main dining hall for dinner tonight. I will address the whole pack about it tonight and announce that our daughter has found her mate. We will make this a sort of farewell party for her semi formal of course. "

All my wife could do was smile at me and nod. She got up and left to see out the preparations for dinner tonight with the whole entire pack. I sunk back into my chair and ran my hand over my face.

As the day dragged on I worked on my pack's financial reports when I looked at my grandfather clock and saw it was time to start getting ready for dinner. I went to my room and got a quick shower and shave and put on my light blue button up shirt and black pants. I headed down to the dining hall. I heard my fellow pack members talking through the doors as I approached them. You could hear them speculating on reasons why I wanted a packed dinner tonight instead of with my family like always. When the doors opened everyone got quiet and stood up showing their necks to me out of respect. "None of that today." I said "for tonight we eat as a family and both as a pack. No displays or that sort needed tonight." I continued as I smiled at my pack. Some were shocked to say the least but some were happy to let their hair down while in front of me. "No formalities tonight at all." I said as I sat down in my chair. My wife to my left and my daughter to my right who looked at me with concern in her eyes. "Dad, are alright?" she asked. I just looked at her and nodded at her with a smile while tapping her hand with mine.

The servers came out with carts of full champagne flukes with our best champagne we had. As they passed them around to everyone I quietly picked mine up and stood up and cleared my throat. As everyone looked at me I began a speech I had prepared for tonight.

" I want to thank you all for coming on such short notice. But me and my wife had been selfish in not saying anything sooner so else bare with me as this is a very emotional time for my wife and I. I was also being selfish and wanted my daughter to have a chosen mate well fate dealt her a hand of her own and I would like to announce that my dear Kara has found her fated mate. His name is Alpha Atlas of the Moon Stone pack." Everyone looked at my daughter and cheered in happiness for her. I raised my hand up and they all got quiet again so I continued. " I know everyone is happy for her as well as her parents. We are delighted to say the least. She will be leaving to go with her mate this weekend and we will miss having her around here." I said with a sad smile. " But I do want to say something else to you all but first I want to tell my daughter in private first. So please , enjoy your meals and we will be back soon."

As I got up everyone went chattering amongst themselves. I lent my hand out for my daughter and asked "Shall we?" She reluctantly reached for my hand and stood as I helped her up. We walked out of the dining room down the corridor. We made our way into our family area of the pack house. We walked inside and I led her to the couch with her mother in tow. She looked at me with concern on her face and asked "Father what it is?" She was still staring at me when I finally started to speak to her. "Kara, my daughter I brought in here to my office cause I have something important that I wanted to tell you before I told the pack. It is only right that I tell you first. Well your mom knows already. But the reason why on had been so hard on finding a chosen mate for you is because I have something that my wolf can't heal and the pack doctor is baffled by it and can't find a cure for it and I don't know how much longer I have left sweetie and i was just trying to make sure that your future was secure after i am gone."
